Hi from Western Australia! My family immigrated from Canton(China) a decade ago, and we just haven't been able to enjoy tropical fruits often here in Perth. Lately I've been inspired to grow a whole lot of dwarf fruit trees in my small backyard, dragon fruit was the first on my list and yet I am a total newbie to nurturing these spiky babies. Only yesterday had I just secured a big pot on a tree stump, for repotting the DF cutting that I bought a month ago. Well, I don't know how KZbin read my mind since I have not searched for growing-DF-videos for about a month, but aren't I super lucky to be recommended with your channel! Seriously I gave up the research after watching a few unhelpful growing-videos. It's unbelievable, your channel is just a total package to DF-growing. Really, thank you for making these videos. You got great styles: the way you speak is just calm and clear; your demonstrations and instructions are easy to follow; in both the comment section and video you address the audience's questions with helpful information; and I just can't stress, how much patience you have! Hahaha

Hi there! I had such a great time reading your comment! You made my day by saying the nicest things to me. I am truly touched by your kindness. It makes me very happy that I am able to provide some basic knowledge to help you expand your tropical fruit varieties to enjoy at your own home. I hope that it covers everything that you've always been wondering and if it doesn't let me know and ill be sure to make a video regarding the topics that you are interested in hearing about. Happy Dragon Fruit gardening. Happy that you're one of my subscribers. You're so awesome!

Would a thin growing dragonfruit variety grow thicker if it was grafted onto a rootstock that usually grows thick and hardy?
@GraftingDragonFruit5 жыл бұрын
Hi James, yes it would. The establish roots on the rootstock will help it feed them so they can grow thick and hardy quicker.

Have you grown the Haley's Comet variety? My plant from Home Depot is SUPPOSED to be that type, although it's only fruited a few small fruits in several years. I will definitely try some techniques I've learned here.
@GraftingDragonFruit5 жыл бұрын
Yes, I am also growing the Halley's Comet variety. They are suppose to be cross pollinated for it to bear fruits. If your DF is setting fruits on its own then chances of it being Halley's Comet is that it could be something different.
@xiucoatl825 жыл бұрын
@@GraftingDragonFruit when I bought it the info said Halley's Comet was self-fertilizing, however I've only had a few fruit over the years so I wanted to try cross pollinating. But the fruit were small and HC is supposed to produce big fruit. I think its a different variety. Do you like the Halley's Comet variety?

When all th3 nodes have been spent either by fruiting or a new branch/shoot can the same stem be used as a cutting and a able to grow new branches when planted?
@brav0209075 жыл бұрын
If you have a infected cutting to start off with (not so green cutting) when you propigate it in a new pot will it be able to grow healthy branches and if so will it bear fruit? I envy your oh so green dragon fruit 🌲👌
@GraftingDragonFruit5 жыл бұрын
Hi Brav, absolutely! Sometimes branches are yellow because they are exposed to high heat for a long period of the day. Not to worry, they will recover once propagated and your new growth will all be healthy. The only concern I would worry about is it has a virus infection that is when I would not use that cutting. Chicken manure is my secret to a healthy green dragon fruit plant! 😁👍🏼

Question; I have a dragon fruit plant growing on an avocado tree in the yard of the house we moved into last year. It’s not flowering. Not sure how old it is. It’s an old house so I’m thinking the tree may be too old to produce. If I take and grow a new plant from a cutting from an old tree that no longer produces, will my cut piece be considered “young” again and be able to produce fruit?
Dude where is the place to get that dragon fruit varity? I'm searching in my local but no luck.

Hey Richard I have a branch that has broken and it has fruit on it what should I do? Will the fruit survive?
@GraftingDragonFruit5 жыл бұрын
Hi Martin Aguilera, if the branch has already been broken off and detach from the Dragon Fruit then you can bring that branch into your home and try to root it again. It will continue to ripe on the branch until the branch is dry and not plump with water anymore. I don't know how far your fruit is into ripping but hopefully its close so that way you can still save that fruit. But chances of that fruit not making it is a 50/50 percent.

How many days is that pink DF you are holding, ready to pick soon? Have you air layed DF on a favorite mature DF plant? Thanks
@GraftingDragonFruit5 жыл бұрын
Hi Danny, I let it stay on for 41 days counting from the day the flower is bloomed and pollinated. This August 22nd is when the fruit will be harvest! I don't air layer DF because it is so easy to propagate them to have root with just planting them in soil. Fruit trees are more use for this technique of creating a air layer to get roots.

What can I do to get my dragon fruit to bud
@jasonhiggins.38536 ай бұрын
Hello, can anyone answer my question please? Can new flower buds appear on the branches that i have removed new growths from? I am worried because all my branches have had many new growths removed during my growing period. All the branches have BLACK BITS now were new growths were previously. I have dozens of branches and every one has the BLACK BITS were the spikes buds & flowers can form.. is it possible for new buds to grow from these? thanks

No new growth can grow from the areas that have been broken. Those nodes are dead nodes once it spawns a branch or bud.

@@GraftingDragonFruit I am gutted, my entire project is then finished! I have about 12 plants that i grew from 4 inch cuttings, once they all reached the correct height i then tipped them. Everytime a new growth appeared i would remove it, trouble now is that my entire collection of plants have all black nodes as new growths grew from every node and were removed to help the main branch. 😭😭😭😭😭 2 years of work 2 produce only 2 dragon fruits from one plant. I am so upset, may as well stop my project as all the top branches have black nodes......I appreciate your message & answer.

@GraftingDragonFruit5 жыл бұрын
Hi Jeff, the causes to branches turning yellow is long exposure to high heat on a hot day. If its 90F+ and is directed to the branches for a long period of time then yellow will start to occur.
