Something to remember when visiting the U.S.: If you are eating something new, don't be afraid to ask your server what the most popular way of eating it is. Example: I've seen Brits come over here and order pancakes and then they just pick it up dry and eat it like a piece of bread when pancakes are so much more enjoyable by slathering them with butter and then pouring warm maple or fruit syrup over them. It's a totally different experience when eaten correctly. Don't be embarrassed to ask questions. Nobody will fault you for it.

If you try to make biscuits and gravy, you'll need to make the sausage from scratch because American breakfast sausage isn't available in Europe. Using the correct sausage is the most important part because its where most of the flavor comes from.

I've had it made with andouille a few times. It's a little spicier but still delicious. Unfortunately i have no idea what sort of sausage is available in Slovakia. You're probably correct for what might be found locally, advising they use common ground pork favored with sage and pepper.

The sausage in the gravy is actually what we here in america refer to as breakfast sausage. It is actually minced pork with seasonings and spices. You can buy it in different heat levels of spiciness . Its not a typical sausage in a casing. You simply cut off the amount you wish to use and pan fry it on the stovetop. The gravy is called cream gravy, or country gravy. Its simply fat flour cream or milk seasoned with salt and lots of black pepper. Just google cream gravy or sausage gravy or country gravy. And then google American biscuits and you should find several recipes.
@rmlrl1971

Kat, the gravy is really easy to make. Brown up ground pork, with some salt pepper and sage. Once it's brown add about 3 tablespoons of flour and cook for a minute or two till the flour is incorporated. The flour will be absorbed by the fat from the pork and this will be the rue for your gravy. Then slowly add 2 cups of milk (you might need more). This will thicken up as it cooks. Then add a lot of black pepper and some salt to taste. I will not tell you how to make biscuits because, the last time I tried, it was a disaster. Good Luck. If you ever try making chicken friend steak, just leave out the ground pork and use 1/4 cup of butter to replace the pork drippings. That is called sawmill or pepper gravy, which is put on top of the steak.

Restaurants are quieter in the south. It’s rude here to be loud. We try not to speak loudly enough for neighboring tables to hear. When I’m with family in Boston, though, there are 10 different conversations happening from every corner of the table at the same time. I think the cultures are different because in a city, you’re not likely to encounter the same people and it doesn’t matter what they overhear. In smaller communities anything overheard makes its way around before you get back home

Our biscuits are a type of bread. You call it sauce, we call it gravy. It's made w/ milk, flour, salt, black pepper, & sausage that's chopped up into bits & pieces. It doesn't matter what kind of sausage you use. During the great depression in the 1920's-30's it was probably the only meal you'd get & nobody cared what it looked like. Mine isn't as thick as what I've been seeing on social media. And I don't pour it out, I use a big spoon or ladle. I cook the sausage first then set aside, make gravy, then add sausage back in. Toast, eggs & hash browns (shredded fried potatoes) on the side makes it better. My mom would make toast with a skillet instead of a toaster. Just butter one side of the bread & fry it until golden, flip over & fry. It's much better than a toaster

I can see where you might think the sawmill gravy (white gravy) doesn't look appetising. But it's like cream of mushroom soup, it's white and bland but packs a lot of flavour! The gravy's white because it's flour and milk, with sausage and sausage drippings. I always put a lot of black pepper on my B&G. Also, you might remember the dish called SOS (chipped beef on toast). B&G is somewhat like that but better imo. Grits are best with butter cream and sugar ☺

Gravy is not my thing. I call it "Food Camo"! Like "secret sauce". If you have to add it, the base foundation needed "doctoring". Originally the gravy was for using all the bits left over to add calorie for heavy field work. But if you gotta have gravy I recommend putting gravy on the side, in a dish, etc. Because it will make the biscuits soggy if you have left overs. Good biscuits don't need anything other than butter, honey (or honey butter) or jam. Biscuits can be slightly sweet but are considered a bread. It can be made into a "slider" or sandwich with cheese, sausage, ham or egg- or combo.

The trick to making good sausage gravy is to use a breakfast sausage flavored with sage. Not sure if you guys have that type of sausage, we can get it in minced form just like hamburger. You can find it already in sausage casings, you would just need to take the casings off to cook the meat. Make a rue with the pan drippings from the sausage and a couple spoons of melted butter along with white flour. Brown the flour and add milk or cream with salt and lots of black pepper to taste. The biscuits are "similar" to scones, but much lighter and fluffier and more buttery, so if you can find a good recipe online, use it. Biscuits and gravy for an outsider may not look appetizing because you have never tasted it before. To those of us who have, we see a plate of utter heaven! You will have to try making them Kat....you can do it! Can't wait!!

Unseasoned they are bland and flavorless. Also, if you do biscuits and gravy, it's much better with homemade biscuits. You can get a recipe for cathead biscuits online. *_MAKE YOUR OWN BISCUITS & GRAVY_* Papa Grim's Badass Biscuits 2-1/2 c flour (cake flour preferred because the low protein content makes for more tender Biscuits) 1 T baking powder (NOT baking soda) 1/4 t baking soda (NOT baking powder) 1/2 t salt (can be cut in half) 1/3 c liquid fat (veg oil, melted lard, melted butter, or Drippins, etc) 3/4 c milk (slightly sour milk is OK) preheat oven to 450f blend all dry ingredients blend all wet ingredients mix wet into dry only enough to bring them together. DO NOT OVERMIX! drop fat golf balls with 2 spoons, or roll & cut (personally, i prefer drop Biscuits) bake 10 to 12 minutes ===== METRIC UNITS : 600 ml flour 15 ml baking powder 1.5 ml baking soda 3 ml salt 80 ml liquid fat 180 ml milk oven at 230c ===== FOR GRAVY : throw some seasoned loose pork breakfast sausage into a pan (for more Gravy, add a little extra Drippins/oil to the pan) cook it until it's about 2/3 done and break it into small bite-sized pieces slowly add flour to the pan until it coats all the meat bits and the pan is starting to think about drying up stir constantly until the flour starts losing it's "raw" smell and starts getting a light nutty aroma turn the heat down to LOW any oil+flour in the pan should be really thick, breaking up when stirred, but liquid when left alone start stirring constantly and begin adding cream and/or sweet milk until the sausage bits are just barely covered keep stirring keep stirring keep stirring some more as the Gravy starts to thicken, adjust the salt and pepper to your liking when you think that maybe you've added too much pepper, give it 4 more grinds keep stirring when the Gravy is nearly as thick as you want it, take it off the heat the Gravy will thicken just a bit more after it's off the stove ===== OPTIONS : during the cooking process, Gravy can be seasoned/augmented as you like it with things such as; red pepper flakes, garlic, chopped onion or onion powder, nutmeg, minced bacon, mace, chives or chopped green onion (for color), 5-spice powder... just use your imagination and do what makes you and yours happy. try it served with a couple of fried eggs over all. (a runny or creamy yolk that you can bust makes it real nice.) try serving with sides of stewed fruit (i like apples with a bit of cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg), sweet Grits (topped with butter, cream, and sugar), sliced raw tomatoes, or just about any other sweet or savory thing you might like with. this meal pairs nice with a BIG cup of black coffee, or strong breakfast tea. finish off the meal with a fat slab of cornbread smeared with butter and a bit of honey, sorghum, or molasses. top the Biscuits and Gravy with a little bit of grated cheese, but don't overdo it (use whatever cheese you like). Biscuits and Gravy is always better when eaten with friends and loved ones. ===== A NOTE ABOUT "DRIPPINS" : Drippins is the fat left in the pan after frying bacon or certain ham steaks. this fat is a prized kitchen ingredient that is used often in Southern kitchens. if it is used frequently, the jar of Drippins is kept near the stove for easy access. otherwise it is stored in the refrigerator for longer life. Drippins can be used (sparingly) like butter, to flavor cooked items, or as a condiment for things such as Grits, cooked veg, soups, stews, burgers, etc.

Grits are like Vodka - no, not like THAT... They are or take the flavor of whatever you mix them with. I'm from South Carolina and I would much prefer hashbrowns over grits. They are not bad, just kind of MEH.

5:02 congratulations on getting healthy again! It’s scary when u drop a ton of weight for unknown reasons. My child’s father is 6’3” and went from 210lbs (95.25 kg) to 170lbs (77.11kg) in 2 months! He was taking a supplement and had a clot in his left lung and his heart sack was full of too much liquid, then his lungs were surrounded by too much liquid too! Finally with meds (like u) and surgery he’s back up to 200..

Sausage gravy is easy to make. I do not cook, never have, but I can make gravy. Sausage, milk, flour, salt/pepper to taste. Easy. The lumps are just either chunks of sausage or flour. Nothing really weird.

Easy country gravy recipe: Ground pork Salt/ pepper/ smoked paprika/ sage Flour Milk I sometimes add other herbs, garlic and onion but that's not necessary. Mix seasoning into meat and brown. Do not drain! You need the fat! Add a few tablespoons of floor and brown a few minutes. Add milk a little at a time until you have a consistency that's thicker than typical gravy(brown or turkey) and you're all set. For the biscuits is follow a country or flaky biscuit recipe or if you can get Pillsbury flaky layers biscuits. Enjoy! Takes about 15-20 minutes total.

Poor you guys.we allow the cameras because we aren't hiding anything. The closest thing to grits for you would be polenta. I love cheese and grits but not together. Only butter for me. Other people like it w our jelly( jam). Sausage gravy is made w the fat drippings from our sausage then add same amount of flour sir to cook flour then add milk to make gravy. Serve w our biscuits.which are soft and fluffy. As always ks

Sausage gravy is stupid simple. Trick is the sausage. You can't use Italian or Chorizo. It has to be American breakfast sausage. Typically with a bit of sage. Look up homemade 'Jimmy Dean' breakfast sausage recipes for the spice mix and ratios. Ground pork and the right spices are easy. And ALWAYS use lots of ground pepper in the gravy. (in a pinch, we make ham or bacon and gravy, but just not as good)

Grits is a special type of corn meal. The gravy you might be more familiar with a French bechamel. Sausage gravy is more heavy & more 'earthy' tasting. They said 'peppery' & I think it is best that way. Sawmill gravy is used on Chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, fried chicken. Sausage & Sawmill are similar. Popeyes biscuits is just one country away. But not worth the travel for biscuits. Try making them.

You can have biscuits and gravy any time of the day. It's good for breakfast, lunch or dinner. It's not just for breakfast. Our biscuits are a type of bread not a cookie. 😊 I like savory grits, with the right consistency of thickness, using butter, salt and pepper only. There are those that like sweet grits, but they're wrong...lol! There's another type of porridge called "cream of wheat" and they are good sweet with butter and Cinnamon and sugar, but regular grits are best savory (I know it's just my opinion...lol!).🙂

When I order grits (similar to Spanish polenta), half the time I add milk and honey (or sugar), or else I have it with butter and pieces of bacon most often. American breakfast sausage is typically pork, seasoned with black pepper and sage (different brands also flavor with other seasonings, eg: maple syrup flavor). The biscuits are only somewhat similar to fluffy, buttery scones, with many online recipes. The gravy uses the grease from cooking the sausage, with flour and milk and/or cream, reduced to thicken it, woth crumbles of sausage pieces, and sometimes (usually) with added black pepper and a touch of salt.

Filming depends on the place. Just ask first though. Universal Studios they allow cameras but not on rides. Disney is ok everywhere except cast member areas. Some malls allow it some don’t. It really depends.

And whenever you guys are over here, hopefully soon, please don’t say “tay-co” no one will really care. And very unlikely someone will ever say anything but we genuinely don’t like it, I know English language and all, it can be said that way and grammatically correct, but for the US is wrong, is Tah-co. I personally don’t care much, if any, as anyone who has says that, is English, English based, haha. If you say you’re version, you’ll definitely get some weird looks at first, from SoCal to Texas for sure. Then they’ll be like. Oh, they aren’t Americans. And I’m sure I can safely speak for all Americans we’d love to have you visit, or come and stay, I obviously only “know” you from the videos, but you are generally pro American in most things, good enough for me and well, all of us sane, rational, ‘normal’ working for a living types. No one is actually normal, just us regular folk would get along just fine with you guys.

Hello my young family. If you would try to make it yourselves, the biscuits need to be made with buttermilk. Not hard but fluffy inside texture. Of course the outside is hard. They need to be split open with butter. Then the gravy is Sausage gravy. Needs to be country sausage, American style you should smell the sage etc. Chunks of sausage in the gravy. Could be served with links of sausage, eggs or omelet etc. Or when you would have country fried steak...we put the gravy over that. Now for grits. For some it's an acquired taste. Not really a porridge. I like them with just butter. As a child I would put Maple syrup over the butter. This would be the Maple syrup I actually made every year. My mom would make grits logs and we'd put butter and Maple syrup over it. Now, there are higher end dishes that include grits. Like cheese and grits or a real favorite that I like is Shrimp and grits. Like a good risotto...it could be made bad. One thing I add with Biscuits and Gravy and grits is hot sauce. Just adds a little more flavor. When I raised and slaughtered my own pigs as a teen...we would make the best country sausage. Something to try to make your own....if you ever have leftover brown gravy. The next morning make American style pancakes and use the gravy instead of syrup. So good. We would have leftover brown gravy after Sunday Dinner. My Stepfather and I would make pancakes using bacon grease and smother in brown gravy. So good. Soory...I'm very old. Lol Raise the volume of what you play a little higher. 🍻❤️🌹🤘

Kat, it's really easy...fry & break up the sausage. Remove the sausage and using the drippings, add flour, milk, salt & pepper and butter. Simmer until thick but stir often so it doesn't stick. Add the sausage back in to keep warm until the biscuits are done. You can add onion & garlic. Biscuits are just as easy, too. it just depends on the recipe but self-rising flour, butter and buttermilk. There are other buttermilk recipes that have more ingredients because they use all-purpose flour. You should really give it a try and if you love it THEN you can experiment with the recipe.

Yep, gravy is easy. First, cook what we call sausage, it’s “breakfast sausage” and is usually pork. It’s seasoned a bit different than what y’all would call sausage. Once it’s done, take the sausage out, save the grease! Now add white flour and milk to the grease in the flying pan, and start stirring, a lot. Then add some salt and pepper. Keep stirring. You want it to get to the consistency of a little thinner than a milk shake. I cant think of a better way to describe it. Then break the sausage up into pieces and add it to the gravy. That’s all there is to it! Biscuits, there’s recipes all over for that. It is very filling and sets on your stomach pretty heavy. Don’t plan on jogging after lol. If you don’t want to go through all that there’s a really good “instant” version available on Amazon. Go on there, search for Pioneer Biscuit gravy mix. You’ll want to make a couple of packs at a time. You then boil some water, stir in the mix, then stir until it thickens up a bit and then you’re ready to go. There’s also a sausage version and a country version. Both are good, but the sausage version is a bit more peppered than we like. The country version tastes the same as the biscuit version. I’m southern (right against the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in East Tennessee) and if I tell ya it’s pretty good for instant, it’s pretty good lol. On the filming thing, most people don’t care. Some businesses do, but it’s only because they don’t want their prices showing. As far as in public goes, NO ONE can stop you. That’s because the law says you have no expectations of privacy in public, so people can film anything and everything they want. As far as not wanting to leave, you probably won’t want to, but I’m biased towards my home land. I would tell y’all to come check out my national park over any other too, but again, I’m biased. Look up the park, Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Sevierville and Townsend Tennessee to see what all can be done here. It’s where that largest Buckees is located, at exit 407 off of interstate 40. There also a good sized Bass Pro shop just across the road from it.

You can make an easy biscuit using equal parts self-rising flour and heavy cream. Keep adding flour until it forms a dough you can roll out and cut into circles (top of a juice glass). Bake at 180C for about 20 minutes or until brown. We eat them with butter, jam or both when we are not covering them with gravy (and your gravy would do to try them).

American discus look like British scones, but they are made extremely different. British scones are dense and harder and American biscuits are soft and fluffy and usually flaky.
