I had a friend who grew up in Alaska. He said for kids Alaska is a blast. Because in the summer it's twenty four hours of sunlight. And the children are off from school. So according to him. You only went home to eat. The rest of the time you're out playing with your friends and if you get tired. You simply find a quiet place to lay down and go to sleep. And when you wake up again you just start playing with your friends. Well, at least the ones who are not also sleeping still. But he said it was a great childhood to grow up there.

3:12 "I've Heard Alaska's Really Expensive To Live There, Because It's So Difficult To Get Food There" Quite true, Jono. There are parts of Alaska that are so remote that they're not accessible by car, that they're accessible by plane or boat. Plus, because of how limited the accessibility of these areas is, whenever you shop for supplies, such as groceries, you'd have to stock up for at least 6 months

My family is from south Texas, but my Dad had open heart surgery, and the Dr. recommended that he stay a while or live in Alaska, due to the much clearer air and such. I was in the Air Force at that time. So my parents moved there, with sister and her family also moving there two months prior, due to a new job. So, I waited til salmon fishing season, and we went there for a week on vacation. Went fishing with my dad and my brother, who came up at the same time. WE all caught some HUGE salmon (only allowed to catch ONE a day). The weather was good at that time, past the snow period. I saw moose, bears, and just about everything else. We took 4-wheelers to a secluded lake to fish. We literally got chased out of the area by a huge bear, who was definitely after us! Scared the hell out of me just how close he got! I went back 3 more times, and really enjoyed it. Clean air, very wild surroundings, and lot's of stuff to do!

I lived in Alberta, Canada. You can see the northern lights there. You have the longer days in summer. The sun rises around 6am and sets around 10pm. The winters are not as bad as Alaska and tons of wonderful skiing. It might be easier to get citizenship in Canada than the US because of your connections to England. By the way, I’m sure it’s been mentioned previously but NYC and NY state are hugely different. The state is super gorgeous. Maybe check on the Adirondacks.

My sister has lived there for 45 years. She would move if her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren didn’t live there. But I know her family loves it. During the winter they do most things inside. Malls, bowling etc. also during the winter they have to take Vitamin D every day because of such little sun. Which causes depression. They used to have the highest rate of suicide of any state.

I must say, it is not cold all year round in Alaska. Because the state is so massive the temperature varies depending on where you are. In Anchorage the average summer temperature ranges from 55-78°F (12.8-25.6°C).. and thats the average. Thats not that bad at all. If you can handle very long daytime in the summer and very long nighttime in the winter, than I think you guys would like Alaska. It would be worth a visit at the very least! The state is arguably the most beautiful state in America! Personally, I'd visit Juneau or Sitka, over Anchorage, though.

My dad and his friends were fishing on Kodiak Island and one guy had an encounter with a Kodiak bear. One morning he was in the outhouse by the cabin they staying in when my dad said they heared a commotion going on outside. When they looked a Kodiak bear was on it's hind legs, rocking the outhouse back and forth. It stood as tall as the outhouse. Suddenly the door cracked open and an arm appeared with a .357 magnum handgun pointed straight up in the air. The guy cracked off several rounds and the bear took off. Not an occurrence you'd expect on a "normal" fishing trip, ;0)

You should listen to Kat your wife about moving there. Its probably on every Americans top list to go there. Yes kids would be eligible for the state payment which is rightfully theirs but technically can be submitted by the parents and claim them as dependents until they are 18 years old. Otherwise each person in the household gets that amount.

You need to keep in mind that the violent crime rate is bad in Alaska. You get the long sunlight in summer, but winters you have really long nights. I have been in Alaska since 1988. I have lived the the most northern city called Utqiagvik or Barrow all the way down to Anchorage and the Matsu Valley. We are a unique type of people up here. We don't put up with bs and we love our guns, wildlife and outdoors. We don't like it when out of staters move up here. They bring trouble we don't want. But on that note we are also the 1st to stop and help when help is needed. Also to be eligible for the PFD you have to be up here 2 years now. It is not bad living here. I have traveled and stayed in most of the other states and i have decided that i will die up here. I will never leave. We have a way of life up here you will never find anywhere else. Edit: the PFD comes out in October for direct deposit and then checks are sent out every week. Everyone is eligible for a PFD including babies. Plus Alaska also has over 100 earthquakes a day. Most you never feel and when they do strike, even big ones, there is very minor damage. My home has survived 2 earthquakes that were over a 7.0 and all that happened was some cracks in the drywall.

I'm on team Kat! I have been to Alaska and it is more beautiful than words can describe. However, I would not live in Anchorage, I don't like big cities. Anchorage has lots of problems with drugs, homeless people, and addicts that will do anything to get money for more drugs (just like all big cities throughout the USA). I visited Alaska for 2 weeks in September. The leaves were changing colors getting ready to drop off in preparation for winter. I went to the smaller towns, villages, and of course some of the tourist sites. The train ride from Anchorage to Denali is a must! You will see sights that can only be seen by train. You will rivers with different colors of water (my favorite was the turquoise color and of course the pristine clear water). I was able to see the Northern Lights while at Denali Lodge. I had dinner with friends, so I was able to eat moose and caribou which were DELICIOUS AND SO TENDER! Seward, Homer, Kenai Peninsula was so BEAUTIFUL AND BREATHTAKING! As far as the cold temps, that is during Fall and Winter, however, the summer temps can get in the mid to upper 90s F. I watch several YT channels of people that homestead up there, they literally live off the land and are saving a FORTUNE! They hunt, fish, and have gardens to grow vegetables and fruit trees. I still want to go back to Alaska so I can fulfill my dream of catching a big Halibut and get a bunch of the huge shrimp that grows in the pristine waters there. The seafood there tastes a thousand times better than the fresh seafood I have had in different states, I think it is because the waters are so cold, pristine clear, and no waste or trash in it. The people there are very adamant about keeping everything clean, no trash thrown around. Kat, if you have the chance to go, I hope you will go in August or September, after the mosquitos die off and the temperatures are still beautiful. A lot of homes explode with color of HUGE FLOWERS!!! Just make sure that you carry bear spray with you when you go anywhere. I do hope you get to go & see Alaska in person, you will FALL IN LOVE!!!

Anchorage has no sales tax, other towns and boroughs do. And btw i hate driving in Anchorage during the rush hours😁 of course i live 3 hours drive out in the boonies

Life long Anchorage resident here, this guy is way wrong on a few of these things. property prices, It’s terrible. For what I paid for my 1100 square-foot house, in over half of the states in the lower 48 I could have twice as much house with twice as much property. And don’t even look at apartments, it’s ludicrous. The summer sunshine is SO absurdly wrong😂, yes, there is daylight when it should be dark, but it’s HARDLY sunny, it’s usually cloudy and or raining. 😢 If you can tolerate cold and dark for 7 months out of the year, then it’s good for you. Highly recommend you visit twice, once in the summer and once in the dead of winter

It is colder in Anchorage and that region. A summer day with a temperature of 70°F /21°C would be considered a warm day, T-shirt weather. The hardest part for people moving to Alaska (and the number one complaint I hear from transplants moving away trying it out) is the day/night cycle. Here is a way to know if you could take the day night cycles; If you are a person that can work an off hour shift like swing or graveyard, and sleep during the day, then you could easily cope with the long daylight hours. Same with the long dark days of winter. Especially if you have experience switching those shifts up regularly. If so your circadian rhythm is perfect for Alaska. The biggest issue is finding work there that can pay for the cost of living. Even fuel is expensive despite Alaska being a massive oil producer. Prices are high because there are no refinery (not enough demand to warrant building one) and have to have fuels refined in the lower 48 and brought back.

Anchorage has a terrible crime problem. You don't escape city problems, even in Alaska.

Most crime in Anchorage is pretty petty and usually relationship involved, like domestic disturbances. It’s quite a safe place to walk down the street at night and leave your car running while it’s warming up.

It's not just too cold, it's insanely too cold and the real estate prices are just as crazy. .8 acres, 2,300 sq ft house, $575,000? OUTRAGEOUS. 8,548 sq ft lot, 1,632 sq ft house, $324,900 NOT A CHANCE. So I can enjoy 50F degree weather for a month before going back to freezing? These people are nuts. I have an 1851 sq ft house, on 6.42 acres with 2 stables in a normal climate that I paid $330,000 for. In a state with no income tax.

I can't find a decent house for any less than $650k in my state 🤣
@alteredaustin1
@alteredaustin1 4 ай бұрын
@@Carfan678 Sure. Does your state have twice the crime rate of every other state and an average temp of 44F? Probably not. PS - I just found a house for sale in HI for $195,000 and one for $110,000 in CA. The 2 most expensive states for real estate. Found one in WA FOR $99,000, the 3rd most expensive state. Weird that you can't find anything for less than "$650k" in your state. Except for that you're not telling the truth.

Texas, yall need to slow down. Yall got everybody in the world wanting to come to Texas! I am a Georgia native and I am planning my vacation for the summer to come to Texas. It feels like I cannot get there fast enough. My son and I had different vacation plans until we went to Buckees. My son had the brisket sandwich and immediately started begging me to go to Texas for the brisket. I tried it and agreed. So now we are driving all the way to Texas and staying for a week just to eat!!!🤣🤣🤣
