His alleged Monte Carlo casino type womanising reputation and movie matinee idol image, (Clark Gable pencil moustache etc.) possibly detracted, (but probably contributed) to him being known as 'Mr Monaco', from winning the Monaco Grand Prix multiple times. He is still the only holder of 'The Triple Crown', (not even Hill's contemporary, the immortal Scot Jim Clark managed to equal that before his untimely demise.) Hill is also the first half of the only father and son winners of F1 Grand Prix World Drivers' Championship; son Damon Hill winning in 1996. Should F1 GP usually brutal rules apply Keke Rosberg and Nico Rosberg are somewhat tenuous father and son holders. Although both are still alive, Keke was born in Sweden of Finnish parents and Nico was born in Germany of a German mother, although Monaco raised with his father. However, there are no objections to their claim to father and son winners of F1 GP WDC TITLES.

@@Matapang2 He certainly was. As a young teenager I went with my dad to Warwick Farm in Sydney and saw him, both walking around the pits and on the track (along with Graham Hill among others), during a couple of Tasman series races during the mid 60s . Great memories, and a reason why I still, sort of, follow Formula One today. A tragic loss when he was killed in an horrific crash at Hockenheim in 1968

Yeah, even Graham would agree that Clark and Stewart had more talent than he did. A very good driver but not a virtuoso like Senna or Fangio.

Great cars , greater characters who drove them. Modern F1 with all their technology , winning is often more reliant upon the engineers sitting in front of the computers then the drivers. No longer a sport , just a business .

45:20 Interesting that Ron Taurenac is naming Jochen Rindt as an example for extraordinary natural talent. That matches with quotes from Jack Brabham and John Cooper who called Rindt the perhaps greatest natural talent he ever raced again and the Senna of its time respectively.

Thanks for a very informative video. Just the information I needed to restore a plane that I was given. I don’t suppose you have done similar with a wooden plane? I bought a lovely jointing plane for very little money and would love to restore it properly and put it back into use. Best wishes, Colin. P.S., I’m now a subscriber. 👍

Still the only triple crown winner to date. Lemans, Monaco, Indianapolis 500, F1 world champion
@raytrevor1Ай бұрын
Traditionally the triple crown was for the three major races of very different formulae, Le Mans, Indy 500 and Monaco. Only recently has the F1 world championship been considered part of it, which makes no sense as it is not a single race.
@cmw9876Ай бұрын
I'm not a mathematician but you have written four "races" there. Perhaps you mean Monaco is a great race in the F1 series. You could leave off F1 for three races which makes more sense.

"Graham Hill: The Best Driver In History" That might be taking things a tad too far... Too bad though that Graham couldn't pass on some of his better sportsmanship genes. It always has been a joy to see him drive.👴👌

Yes, Graham was excellent, but the title 'The Best Driver in History' is clickbait. But a very good documentary in any case. I would say that the 'Best Driver in History' might be a certain Jim Clark. Jim totally dominated Graham when they were Lotus teammates in 1967.

Agreed, and Keke and Nico Rosberg have emulated the father and son championship winners. Also, Fernando Alonso might try for Indy and the triple crown. Ayrton Senna won six times in Monaco.
