If you think you feel old, then just know that I feel older. I managed a pro photography store from 1992-2013. I sold many of the films you weren’t familiar with. Agfa was known to have 24+3 exposures in their films. The Kodak HIE Infrared is my favorite film of all time. It must be loaded and unloaded in complete darkness. (Carry a black bag if you need to reload. Make sure to put the same film canister in the bag beforehand because it has a black base & lid.) Kodak VPS/Vericolor was a common film pros used for weddings and portraits. They often bought it by the brick. (Sealed pack of 4 pro-packs.) I probably forgot a few others you mentioned that I could wax poetic about, but I’m old so I have an excuse. Thanks for a trip down memory lane.

Hi Jason - you remembered right! the Kodak PMZ 1000 did come from a hospital. I got it through a janitor who implied the stock had been utilized for records of autopsies. I can't verify if that's true, but I shot the other three in the box and enjoyed the sandy graininess - sadly no Exorcist style apparitions appeared in my negatives, though. I recommend shooting it at 800iso or slower. Enjoy

The Color Mission is like a inverted Kickstarter campaign run by Adox. The factory which manufactured it some number of years ago has since been closed and Adox wants to sell off the frozen stock to fund the necessary research to start producing color film here in Germany again. That's where the "Mission" originates from. (If I remember correctly they bought some small machines from their bankrupt partner company.) I'm waiting for spring to come to test it out.

Just FYI the AR-5 process was the aerial film developing process used for processing Aerochrome the way it was intended for scientific purposes, but that EIR colour infrared film you had is processable in E-6 too (it should have instructions in the box that detail the differences, but E6 just gives higher film speed, more saturation and more contrast compared to the AR-5 processing). Like Aerochrome 1443 you can process it in C41 to give a negative which I generally prefer (more dynamic range and flexibility with colour cast). The previous version of EIR was called Infrared Ektachrome (IE) which needed the E-4 process (but can be developed in low temperature C41 chemicals). This was a somewhat equivalent emulsion to Aerochrome 2443, the predecessor to the latest version which was Aerochrome 1443.

Would love to hear your workflow for 400D because I've shot a few rolls now and I'm just not that impressed with the results. But now that Cinestill has unprecedentedly become the cheaper "pro" film stock, it's starting to seem more attractive to me again.

I'm hoping to make a series of videos depleting my expired film stash. 1) Rising film prices 2) Variety in results and taking a more lax approach, since it may all turn out bad. 3) The quanitity of expired/unknown films is getting a little ridiculous at this point. Maybe you can do the same! Short videos covering 1-2 rolls at a time.

Alternate title: ‘Jason goes through his superannuation fund and forgets to defrost his freezers.’ “So apparently Kodak used to make Gold in 100 ISO.” = Tell me you’re under the age of 40 without telling me you’re under the age of 40. 24+3 (27) was a thing in the 80'es and 90's as I recall it. Getting sometimes even 28 or 29 shots on a roll, when I had only paid for 24 frames was a nice feeling. My own freezer is full. I have promised myself to not buy new film until I have spent every roll. So instead I have added a collection of digicams - and of course the camera shelves are full as well now.🤦‍♂

Few fun facts about that Derevpan 400! The base has problems with light piping so you might have just leaked all over the first few frames busting it out like that. It's made by Svema in Shostka Ukraine which was hit pretty hard in the first weeks of the war and we'll probably never get that film again ... okay not so fun facts. I've got a few rolls in 400 and 100 squirreled away for something appropriate one day.
