Gram had an appreciation, love, and reverence for traditional country music that far out weighs what is shown by the current Nashville music establishment. They are too busy trying to sound popish to gain listeners. This cycle has happened before. History doesn't repeat itself but it does often rhyme.

I was a Sophomore in college the year Gram passed, and I discovered him, the Byrds, the FBBs, and Emmylou around that time but after his passing. Their duets saved my soul more times than I can count and I still miss him for how his music positively affected my life. Gram's and Emmylou's relationship was always so intriguing to me. I felt she must have tried to save him but in the end she could not overcome his addictions. And I'm sure there was at least a great fondness for one another if not love. There had to be - you can just hear it in their singing together. His music was life changing for her, for me, and countless other fans.

I have loved Gram in a way I can't even fathom myself and as the story goes I believe Hillman Told Gram about this women he had to hear so they went to DC were she was doing a gig and they played something together and the duet began a harmony that is still amazing now ,50 some years since that day. Now the myths surrounding Gram and the Burritos are so confusing that I could have some of this wrong. I guess only Chris Hillman can tell you the whole truth but what ever that truth might be. All I know is that something really special happened. And Chris thanks for your contributions to the Byrds and all the other great things you created .But thanks most of all for getting the Burritos together and putting up with Gram. I am sure it must have been tough putting up with a kid more into pushing off with keef than being on time for something you created with Bernie and the rest of the burritos but you did show us something that will never happen again . And changed my life forever. That voice with Emmylou's voice can never be duplicated again so mahalo's my brother and thanks for still being alive. Gram was not so lucky and you can still see the burn marks up at old cap rock in one of the most beautiful micro enviroments in the world. I have been listening to the Byrds this week, even more so since the announcement of David Crosby’s death yesterday. Included in my listening was the Sweet Heart of the Radio album. Parsons joining the Byrds significantly influenced the Byrds move toward country-rock from its origins as a rock band. I find Parsons, including Emmylou Harris, more suited for Americana-Roots genre than Country music. It’s the blending of folk-bluegrass- rock, without the slick Nashville sound - and this is especially true of ‘70’s Country music. I first saw Emmylou in concert in the mid-70’s soon after she formed her HotBand. She opened for Willie Nelson and Ricky Skaggs was played guitar-fiddle-and mandolin. Emmylou always had the best musicians in her bands, including Sam Bush (formerly of the progressive bluegrass band New Grass Revival) and Rodney Crowell. These singer/songwriter musicians transcend genres. And like Emmylou, these days, are rarely, if ever heard, on country music stations.

He also eventually pissed off Roger McGuinn and Parson’s voice was taken off of the Sweetheart album. It was one of the first country rock albums, another sub genre worth a dive. I had heard that it was contract issues which made them take off Parson's voice. He was apparently still under contract to a different record company than the Byrds. Now I'm not sayin' he didn't piss off Roger McGuinn, but I think McGuinn respected Parsons enough that he wouldn't just take off his vocals out of spite. It was a very complicated relationship due to Parsons' addictions.
