One of the phrases we used "if+past(cause), would+verb(effect)" . Another phrase "if+past perfect, would+present perfect" I think the meaning of both structures is same, then what is the main reason of using those structures and what is the difference between them? In which cases should we use them?

That's a tough question and I'm not exactly sure how to answer it. You're basically asking me if there's a way to make grammar poor. I'll try though. You might say something like: If I hadda known, I woulda done it OR If you hadda given me more time, I coulda helped.

Yes, that's right. Habitual is sometimes called zero conditional and future first conditional. Second would be an imagined future while third describes something that didn't happen in the past.

Great video! How about the following sentence: "Imagine we had just been told that a huge meteor was on its way to Earth. What would be the best thing to do?" If it's a hypothetical situation in the present, then why do we use past perfect in the if clause?
@mapleleafesl6162
@mapleleafesl6162 3 жыл бұрын
Because you are imagining that someone had told you that (when, in fact, they didn't) in the past. So to represent that idea, you need the past perfect. "If I had been told I only had one week to live, I would eat all of my favourite food." Hope this helps.

una pregunta... Este tema de gramatica lo enseñan en high school? y esa seria la razon del porque este video fue creado? o fue creado para enseñar ingles "basico" a hablantes del español .El unreal conditional es considerado de un ingles basico? osea un niño de 9 años ya domina el unreal conditional? . ERES UN PROFESOR DE INGLÉS? O UN PROFESOR DE LENGUAJE?

"If you would had the choice" how is that even correct?
@mapleleafesl6162
@mapleleafesl6162 6 жыл бұрын
It's not. The sentence says 'If I'd had the choice...' in which the 'I'd' stands for 'I had' not 'I would'. Therefore, it reads as 'If I had had the choice....'

Chester Jo 👨🏻‍🏫 Hello, Chester. Mr Teacher here in England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿. I suggest you watch this video again. Then you will hear Andrew explain the use of ‘had had’. It is a curious anomaly of English verbs, but nevertheless it is correct.
