One of the phrases we used "if+past(cause), would+verb(effect)" . Another phrase "if+past perfect, would+present perfect" I think the meaning of both structures is same, then what is the main reason of using those structures and what is the difference between them? In which cases should we use them?

Yes, that's right. Habitual is sometimes called zero conditional and future first conditional. Second would be an imagined future while third describes something that didn't happen in the past.

Great video! How about the following sentence: "Imagine we had just been told that a huge meteor was on its way to Earth. What would be the best thing to do?" If it's a hypothetical situation in the present, then why do we use past perfect in the if clause?
@mapleleafesl61623 жыл бұрын
Because you are imagining that someone had told you that (when, in fact, they didn't) in the past. So to represent that idea, you need the past perfect. "If I had been told I only had one week to live, I would eat all of my favourite food." Hope this helps.
