Hi Tom! Hope you, Billie and your family have had a wonderful Christmas. Lovely rehousing video as usual, and a gorgeous big girl Tarantula she is. I’m gonna tell you about my Hamorii and one time in particular. She had gotten into a habit of traversing her enclosure…started out with about two inches high, walking right around the 4 sides.. then she went right up onto the meshed lid, and walked upside down on it.. well, this happened a few times each day. Fed her, then she repeated this manoeuvre again for a couple of weeks. Till one day, I was observing her doing her routine, up on the mesh, got her toe hooks stuck! There she’s hanging by one leg struggling to free herself, I went to her with a small paint brush and tickled her foot, she dropped down onto her substrate, no harm done 😅 she’s not repeated this since, thankfully 😅. I wanted to take this opportunity to wish yourself and Billie a very Happy New Year for 2025. Keep your content coming, Love your channel 💙🕷️😊😊

Hello, Joanne! Happy New Year to you as well! Thanks so much for that story! I found one of mine hanging from her feet, and she had probably been there for hours. She was not in great shape when I finally got her out. I had someone send me pics of two huge Theraphosa stirmi legs hanging from the mesh at the top of the enclosure. His big female had climbed up, got her toe claws caught, and apparently ripped them off. It doesn't seem to happen often, but when it does happen, it can be a bit of a nightmare. All the best...and thank you!

@@TomsBigSpiders It’s bound to panic them and stress them out getting their toe hooks caught in that fine wire mesh! I’m very glad I got to her quickly enough so no visible damage was done. It scared the life outta me. Thanks Tom 😊😊

Hi Tom! Awesome video as always! I hope you had an amazing Christmas! So sorry for being out of touch for so long, I started watching Breaking Bad and that universe totally took over my life for a while! I was so excited to see. this video though as this is one of my dream species! I actually was at an expo today but couldn't find one, sadly. I did come home with a P. striata, O. philippinus, and S. dehaani though! I haven't had a sling to raise up in a while and the itch was driving me crazy (I'm sure you understand!). I was amazed doing some rehousings recently, and again today, to realise I didn't immediately come here to look up your videos on them- I already knew how to set them up. That was a pretty big moment for me, not gonna lie. Of course I will always come watch your videos to support you and because I find your content entertaining (and I find most tarantula KZbinrs painful to watch) and the podcasts are like chatting with a buddy about my favourite thing! Working with centipedes again today made me realise just how easy we have it in the t hobby, lol. I've really never had a spider ever bolt on me except some mature males during pairings which honestly is completely valid and I was expecting it, but man the way centipedes move is just different, and the way they wrap themselves around things is so completely different from the way tarantulas do... everything. Centipede movements are like combining the movements of huntsman spiders and snakes. I wasn't PLANNING to buy a centipede today but I took one look at her and knew that no amount of mental arguing with myself would prevent me from leaving that show with her. She's maybe 7 inches long and I gave her a gigantic enclosure and I know I will probably never see her again but that is okay with me. I absolutely LOVE that you were able to take the whole web mat out and put it in the new enclosure. It looks amazing! I would love to hear your thoughts on specimens (or species if you've kept multiple and observed the behaviour repeatedly) you have had where the species is not known to be a heavy webber but they have totally surprised you with their webbing! For me, my T. verdezi and P. auratus are quite heavy webbers and have blanketed their tanks. My B. simoroxigorum also has an extensive series of tunnels made out of webbing, but I'm not sure if they're known for that behaviour. I believe they are known as fossorial, but all 4 of mine have behaved much like my Chilobrachys- burrowed as slings and juveniles, but once they put on size they abandoned their burrows and began extensively webbing. Hope you and the family are doing great! Also, LOVE the glasses! Happy New Year, Tom! I hope 2025 is awesome for you! - Charlotte

Concerning about putting old webbing or decoration from the old enclosure into the new one I do that too. As a catkeeper I thought, well you try to keep stresslevel low for your cat through keeping their surroundings as familiar as possible...could work with rehoused T's too. At least it doesn't do any harm. And about Simply Limeade...they're working on a new ad propably. Something like: Simply Limeade, tasty, refreshing and nice for catching Tarantulas! Prost!( trans: Cheers!) Happy new Year to You and Your Family 🎆🍀

She's lovely. I have a similar spider and I named her Velvet, and I'm planning to get her into a slightly larger house soon so this is helpful. I'll definitely bring some of her web carpet, but I do have an urticating hair question for you! Do you know how long they take to degrade into not being dangerous anymore? I want to throw out less of the used substrate if I can help it.

(Velvet is similar to yours in that she is a female of ~3 years and thus is grown, and has a similar temperment with a bit of variation in each molt. She's pretty confident atm.)

Do you ever clean your T’s substrate if they’re in an enclosure for more than a year?
@TomsBigSpiders3 күн бұрын
I spot clean for boluses or any mold, but that's about it. They are very clean overall, and it's really not necessary to clean them out frequently. If I see a lot of mold or if a prey item is rotting in the den of a species that requires moisture, then I might switch it up.
