One thing that really annoys me about the current taynegativity discourse is this idea that TTPD is not doing “something new”. As Taylor spoke about in Miss Americana, it seems as though it is only female pop stars that we expect this constant reinvention from. When I think about acts like Bob Dylan, Elton John, Bruce Springsteen, etc. (which are much more Taylor’s peers than current pop stars), they did not reinvent themselves each and every record cycle. Instead, they honed and shaped their craft and their niche within the industry over time. And that is what I see Taylor doing in TTPD. No, it is not something new, but rather (in my opinion), an elevation of her songwriting craft and another step towards cementing a legacy.

I think no single song off BRAT has had more cultural impact than songs off TTPD, but I do think BRAT as a "vibe" had a bigger cultural impact (I know it sounds corny lol). Most people that talked about BRAT and brat summer probably didn't listen to the album at all but it was still talked about so much in all forms of media because it was co-opted as this "cool youth trend" by big companies and politicians, whereas more people listened to TTPD (if not simply by the huge amount of dedicated Swifties). Almost all of my friends say they don't know any song off TTPD but say that they know about Brat (even tho they probably only heard segments of a song or two through memes)

I have to assume he meant Taylor has done nothing to PROMOTE this album and I fear I must agree. Besides the tour, there’s been very little. We only got two singles and two music videos and one is a “behind the scene of the tour” video so it doesn’t really even count. She hasn’t done any talk shows, no late night performances, nothing. Besides the tour and some merch, she didn’t market this album at all and if that’s what he meant, then he’s 100% correct. If she had given TTPD the same marketing strategy as midnights, it’d probably be even bigger. But I think the reason for that could be that she used this album as therapy almost and now she’s over that situationship and honestly just doesn’t wanna talk about it. She wants to let the music speak for itself which is fine but probably will cost her the Grammy. (Though she probably would’ve lost it anyway since midnights won last year and that’s probably exactly why she chose to let the music speak cause its a losing battle)

I'm here for TTPD defence. Sorry, not sorry. 8 & 7 - "Don't know & don't care." 6- "Brat" - I'm not on tiktok, therefore never listened to one single song from this album. Decided to try a few songs just to see what all the fuss was about, and... I don't get it. If it had never been made, it wouldn't make a difference IMO. 5- "Cowboy Carter?" Meh... 4- "Hit me hard and soft" was enjoyable on first few listenings, then got boring really fast. 3- "Short & Sweet" was great and still going strong, to my surprise. 2- "Midwest Princess" is a fantastic album that I have listened to over and over. 1- TTPD - As much as Sabrina and Chappel really took me by surprise this year with fun, exciting and upbeat music, you just cant compare. There is a difference between great and greatness. Taylor is greatness here and no one can tell me otherwise. With all of that said, they'll likely give it to Beyonce.

I think Taylor is at the point where people don’t look at her artwork as it is, they cannot get past that her name is attached. To say it’s only popular cause she made it yes, because her art is culturally significant and large by its self. At this point it’s less likely to have a cultural impact bc it’s apart of our everyday life, listening to entire Taylor Swift albums. They cannot detach the album from who she is, the monster on the hill which is just wrong. Her sales are amazing, because the art is amazing. When people say tortured poets isn’t culturally significant that is literally insane. TTPD is an amazing album all around with a variety of stories, full of vulnerability etc. they only looked at the headlines that said Taylor’s bad lines taken out of context and it tainted their view. This album will be a staple for another 20 years plus, who is going to be listening to Billie or Charlis album even 5-10 years from now? No one. No ones going to remember 23-25 as their era their gunna remember the eras tour, midnights and tortured poets era. The world is Taylor’s…. I’m sure the other artists will have long term life long fans but their fans aren’t going to still be specifically still hyping up those albums. This album is Taylor’s magnum opus and outsold them all… and it sucks bc this album truly deserves the Grammy imo more than 1989 or folklore etc obviously there’s different noms next to them But still … it sucks bc I don’t even want this to win bc everyone is such a hater and she doesn’t even need it. But it’s also sad that amazing art is overlooked bc of who she is. She deserves it. I think that what a lot of people aren’t picking up on is how vulnerable this album is. It’s more raw and real than her past albums. This isn’t to say past albums haven’t been, but there’s a different vibe to TTPD. There’s something Different about it, something people who only listen to the songs that appear on the radio don’t exactly gel with. Do I think TTPD will win? No, but not bc it isn’t a great album and one of her best. But I can see it not winning bc there are other albums that are just as good if not better to the general public.

It's a relief to hear you guys give TTPD her flowers (which I know you've done in the past, I just mean compared to other Swifties), because I CAN'T STAND the whole "I'm a Swiftie but TTPD sucks". Like no, you're not a Swiftie, because this album is the most Taylor Swift album to exist. UGH it's been driving me nuts. This album is MY album of the year whether it wins or not.

I can’t agree with the first caller at all. You just have to give the album a chance you have to listen to it and listen to it and read the lyrics it comes. I promise loving it comes. I think she did a lot to promote it when you consider she included it in the air tour this past yearand how much work was that? I’m sure it was plenty. Taylor negativity is just stupid. She doesn’t even hardly promote herself anymore. I mean, as far as going on TV shows and talk shows and whatever she’s busy, living her life with her liver life.

Florida! Is one of my favorite forgets on the album. I LOVED it the first time I heard it, listened to it a bunch, and now I only hear it when I listen through the album and every time I get excited but I don't look it up. Am I the only one who does that?
