Fearing that Taylor will run out of material to write about is subconsciously reinforcing the idea that her art is a “trick.” Like if she’s not suffering she can’t create good art. First of all, life is long. Reaching emotional stagnation at 35 is unheard of. Odd to think married people over a certain age can’t have experiences and epiphanies. Additionally, other artists don’t seem to raise this kind of suspicion. Painters, poets, and filmmakers create and innovate for decades (if they’re lucky)… but a 35-yr-old woman is dried up once she settles down? Y’all need to look inward lol note: this comment is operating under the assumption that she’s settling down anytime soon which we absolutely do not know and have no right to know. So there’s that too.
@giuliabonechi18643 ай бұрын
Not only that: it reinforces a very unsettling scenario that she widely expanded on in WAOLOM. The fact that she needs emotionally exhausting experiences to be able to make good music, and that’s what her fans want from her, to be constantly traumatised, sad, heartbroken, hopeless, and scared. I don’t know if they can understand that during one of her apparently happiest moments in life where she felt fulfilled under so many aspects, she released 1989. Like, what do these people even think of Taylor fucking Swift??

I think it makes sense that the amount of amazing, powerful music she would come out with may be less as she ages and settles in her life more. Some of the most powerful music people come out with is about the start of relationships, at the end of them, or other intense or devastating scenarios.. this is true for all people not just Taylor, and one would expect those scenarios would happen less as she ages. But even if she does make less in the future, that doesn't mean she won't still come out with amazing music. Just maybe not as much as we've been fed up til now 😅

As a long time fan who've been around since 2010-ish, I actually prefer that she we don't know everything about her and that she's setting a clear boundary, especially with the growing parasocialism and criticism that fans are hurling towards her every chance they get. Taylor Swift the person doesn't owe us shit about her personal life, and you're not entitled to it just because you're her fans. In fact, I'd argue that you're not entitled to that kind of thing with anyone you know in real life, either. People share what they choose to share about themselves and you can walk away if it's not enough for you, but no one is obligated to give out intimate details, even if they're just innocent things like what they like or dislike.

Regarding The Alchemy... I haven't seen anyone talk about the song order in the album. WHY would she add a love song with a "finally finding the one"-vibe, about Matty, RIGHT after she dragged Matty to bits in Smallest man?? Makes NO sense, neither in an artistic way of structuring an album, or an emotional way 😅 also, have we just dropped the understanding that a song could be about two people? That she could merge two different memories and feelings into one? One song could have multiple muses, or be a mix of real life and fiction. That's how I think the song was created.

46:37 What people need to understand is that relationships end and change regardless of what is done or said. We have several examples of this: in the secret Reputation sessions during Getaway Car, Taylor made it clear that she had already tried to get out of that relationship in different ways. So, the getaway car was nothing more than the final attempt that she knew would work to escape that relationship. But, that doesn't change the fact that her relationship with Calvin had already been in trouble for months before she got in the getaway car. Likewise, that doesn't mean that the brief, almost-relationship she had with Tom was any less meaningful because she has "codependency" issues. What happened was just life, they were at different stages and wanted different things, and that's okay. We can't always reciprocate the other person's expectations and desires for a relationship. In the same way that her relationship with Joe would have ended regardless and got ended regardless Maty Healy's action. It's not as deep as people think it is. It's just life.
@emmmma1432 ай бұрын
Exactly!! *So* many people, even swifties, forget she is also a human being experiencing life for the first time. Her relationships, while very different due to her fame, are still human relationships. People change, they grow apart, they fall out of love after six and a half years.
@carolinamansur1132 ай бұрын
@@emmmma143 I also think people forget Taylor's last experience as a normal human being was back when she was 16. Everything she learned about love after that was when she was _already_ in the industry and we know how Hollywood is with/about love. Is very problematic. What I mean by this is her last normal experience in dating was when she was a teenager. There's a reason she's always going back to "teenage" references for love on her songs. That's what she knows for certain.

Hope you guys will intellectually indulge this theory: The Alchemy is about a homecoming and Taylor loves to personify cities and countries as her love interests. The circling on the map refers to her coming back to America and more of an All-American/America's Sweethearts style relationship away from the stiff-upperlip associated with London ( London is Joe personified). The "coming back" may not refer to a specific person but a vibe/location/ease /power couple framework that she hasnt had in a while. I think the touchdown and trophy metaphors are pointed if you look at it through this lens.

@Marina-nn4md3 ай бұрын
I feel like The Alchemy was originally going to be about Matty, but Taylor later shifted it to focus on Travis. Some verses are packed with drug-related imagery-like heroin, chemicals, and hospital-while others are full of sports references-trophy, league, team. I think the sports imagery was added later. What’s brilliant is how it all ties into the concept of "alchemy," which is about transforming matter. In this case, she’s transforming the subject matter within the song. If that’s true, it’s pretty genius, but that’s just my theory-I have no solid proof to back it up.
@Marina-nn4md3 ай бұрын
Another theory I have is that Taylor may be living up to her honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degree by referencing Aristotle’s Poetics ("you know how to ball, I know Aristotle", but there is another hint). I read it during a Literary Theory class in my MBA program. To put it in simple terms, Aristotle defines poetry as an imitation of life, with comedy depicting men as worse than they are, and tragedy aiming to represent 'better men". I think Taylor is cleverly playing with this idea, suggesting in the album's summary that the worst men in her life have inspired her best poetry ("it’s the worst men that I write best.”). Truly a mastermind.
@muskaan37113 ай бұрын
That's exactly my theory as well. I think Taylor does it quite often. I don't think Cardigan was really written about MH but she made it about him by dedicating it to him in 2023. So maybe The Alchemy was written about Matty but she made it about Travis.
@sarafreitas69882 ай бұрын
I think The Alchemy is a return to the popstar Taylor, forget the men, this is about her being her best version. xD But I think The Alchemy is a complex song. It could started about Matty, but I think she might have altered it after starting to fall in love in Travis? In my mind, I think TTPD was meant with the sound of The Anthology - Black Down forward - and then things changed and she added the first have. Call me crazy, that is my hot take.

Or do they treat her art like art and focus on how it makes THEM feel, the perspective it adds to THEIR own experiences, the relief when hearing lyrics that explain exactly what THEY were not able to put into words? Really, Back to December does not make me think of Tay2 or whatever we call the werewolf man interlude - that song and Midnight Rain allow me to safely explore the ouchie feeling of admitting when I was mean to a lovely man. my personal unpopular opinion is that the term 'swiftie' has lost its meaning due to it being overcommercialised. I don't think it comes from Taylor or her team, rather it being used by external sources such as publications when discussing anything Taylor. what I'm trying to say, is being a casual listener to Taylor doesn't make you a swifite, and that's fine! for example, with other fandoms we don't see this overuse of fan names by just anyone. if your a casual enjoyer of Ariana Grande, your not referring to yourself as arianator. It reminds me of that one interview with Chappell Roan, where she talks about listening to karma, and is asked if she's a swiftie. She responds with something along the lines of 'I don't think I can say that because I don't know the lore or all of her songs'. its as though brands, and it even trickles down to something as simple as tiktokers or social media influencers using it to piggy back off the success of Taylor, particularly the eras tour. Because Taylor has such a large fan base anything with her name gains traction. But not everyone in that fan base is a swiftie, which again is fine!

From remanding Rep TV to the whole Vienna situation where people are STILL commenting under TN posts about how she betrayed them, to picking litetal teams on Joe vs Travis on who's the better boyfriend and who treated her better to even more extreme instances like showing up at Jack's wedding rehearsal. LIKE AS A BIG FAN OF TAYLOR THIS IS REALLY, REALLY WEIRD, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT BLEEDS INTO REAL LIFE SITUATIONS. It seems to be getting worse recently. People need to realise that YOU DO NOT KNOW TAYLOR!! YOU DON'T KNOW ANY OF THESE PEOPLE! I know in the past she has been very open and interacted with fans more often, which certainly has exacerbated the situation, but today every single facet of her public persona is calculated, even down to when her photos are taken by paparazzi (I'm not saying its entirely fake, just that she only shares what she wants to). We know barely anything about her day to day as a regular person in the slightest, and to feel entitled to any part of this woman who you don't know and are purely a customer of is crazy. You touched on it in the video, but truly why are people getting upset thar Taylor is watching something that you personally didn't think she would based on what she shares online 😭. Like you both said, do we really need to know? Is it really any of our business? And I find it baffling that some people find the answer for that to be yes. I can't help but think of Chappell in this situation and her disdain for the entitlement people feel towards her, and from recent songs/her Europe wrap up post it seems like she may be feeling the same. Although Taylor is on a completely different level to Chappel, I think the principal is the same that Taylor is just another random woman who you truly don't know, no matter how hard you relate to her lyrics or how much lore you know, and I think people need to realise that before they put so much emotional weight and opinions on the actions of Taylor.

Let me clear up one things, these new swifties give us such a bad reputatioonn. Like, I knew Taylor for a long time but I only became a compromised swiftie when she released Midnights, that is fairly recent, still I understand simple concepts like SHE DOESN'T NEED TO TELL EVERYTHING ABOUT HER LIFE or that she is behaving ¿¿PREDATORY??? in a X Y Z manner. I believe these people are just chosing to be dense and dumb just because, we new swifties don't claim them.

These new fans will be so outraged when she goes back to releasing new stuff once every 2 years... they have no idea how blessed these past few years have been and that they were the busiest for us. But I'm here since the Speak Now release, and I was used to living in an era for 2 years! I spent 2 years crying over Back To December until I had something new from Red. Stop complaining and also stop demanding for new albums because we are in the middle of the TTPD era!!!

I was an Alchemy denier, at first. But she replays the AFC Championship game in the bridge. There's no denying it. I've been a KC fan for 30 years. "We" weren't supposed to beat the Ravens. Jason took his shirt off. Beer was spilled everywhere. The trophy was on the dias, but he ran to her. 🏈❤️

Saying that cutting Long Live from the setlist is a good thing is INSANE. You can immediatly guess this person is a newer swiftie. Which is not a bad thing in itself, but becomes one when you have this kind of horrendous takes. It DOES have both of them in the song, so yeah, I'd say so. Nobody wants to admit that it is possible she's singing about the feeling of chemistry between people and not about one person specifically.
@carolinamansur1132 ай бұрын
@@elizzybec what I've been saying about TTPD for so long is that it's the first time we have an album where Taylor presents us how she's feeling and then maybe the reason why/what happened for her to be there. All the albums prior to this were pretty much "ok, so this is what happened and this is how it made me feel". What I mean by that is the focus/subject on TTPD IS Taylor. It's not any of the relationships. It's an album about herself and occasionally what she's been through. That's why the songs are so confusing and have hints about Joe and Matty (and in The Alchemy Matty and Travis). Because the subject matter is how Taylor feels. Feelings are not linear or logic, so neither is the way she tells the story. I think a lot of the songs on this album talk about more than just one person and the whole debate when it HAS to be a wrong and a right is just disgusting.

41:35 My tinfoil hat theory on The Alchemy being about Matty or Travis is that she wrote it about Matty, but it just so happened that the Tayvoodoo kicked in and The Prophecy prophecied so hard that she ended up dating a football player and it just works with all the football metaphors anyway so she repurposed it for Travis in the Eras after the fact.

DRAG HIM, take him out back, read him his Miranda rights and send him away for life for that opinion. Maddie was 100% correct, Long Live is cinema, Long Live is Life. Of all the Taylor Swift songs, Long Live is one of the last songs I'd ever expect to be disliked. TLDR: DRAG HIM (Long Live Hater).

That song is literally her telling her fans to never forget about the magic she and her fans have made all these years. I dont know how thats not fitting into the setlist at all. It's an important song for the long time fans and the Eras tour is the BEST avenue for us to scream-cry those lyrics back to Taylor.

that cat opinion was insane ngl. objectively speaking, taylor swift hasn’t shown her cats recently, but that doesn’t mean that she doesn’t care about them 😭😭 just because they aren’t on display for all to see doesn’t mean she’s a neglectful cat mother. i’m sure she still loves her cats (or at least, i hope so). we don’t know taylor, so we can’t go around making wild assumptions about her character.
@aaliyahfoster27052 ай бұрын
The cats (specifically Meredith) just don't like getting their pictures taken. That's it. She had an intermission clip during the 1989 World Tour that showed Mer and Olivia. They did not want to cooperate and run away whenever they sense a camera lens facing them. I don't get why a staggering amount of people want to show off their pets to post on social media all the time, that's my unpopular opinion - including the people who use their own profiles as an extension of their pets for income who post every day.

I'm way too deep in the taylor lore and I agree w almost everything you say - one thing, I don't want to think The Alchemy is about Travis but I feel like is one of those blended songs - like it's about both of them. I feel like she retrofitted a song about Matty with the "blokes on benches" nonsense / "shirts off" bridge to make it seem like she was talking about Travis to give him some minor space on TTPD. The whole thematic return to old flame / hospital was a drag aspects are def about Matty, but I actually think the beer / guys / benches stuff is a heavy handed way of giving trav some more airtime
