I think people forget the context behind Whitney and Mariah’s moment back then. In the 90s, they were constantly compared and pitted against each other. But they came out with a song, interviews, and that moment and showed that they were friends and loved each other, that there wasn’t any animosity between them. That’s what made that moment so special. Two of the biggest female stars of our time coming together!

But, no, I don’t think they’ve had the impact or paid the dues W & M have. Which is not to say they won't get there. It takes a body of work and a long career to reach icon status. And to be honest, the homage wasn’t well-written or well presented. Still a fan of D & M regardless.

I won’t intellectualize that! Mariah and Whitney did it for a really specific reason while Dua and Megan did it as a publicity stunt. Recreating an iconic moment for the millennials to see.
