You've probably sorted by now? I'm working through your vids. Repair it yourself. Best way to learn. The 5a is my preference is much brighter than the 5b I find that too controlled for my taste but a lot of people do not agree with me, as usual 😁 Update I've watched the repair. Good job sounds great. 👍

Sorry I am only a poor amateur and don't do repairs... I suspect you are right though, but have a close look at the screw first, you can sometimes find spares on the Internet...

You probably have already sorted it out but if not you should try and solder it yourself. The worst thing you can do is do a crappy solder and if so then take it to someone more professional. I work at a brass instrument repair shop and I'm sure if you have a local band repair shop they could give it a go

Thanks for the advice, no I left it and have been pursuing other hobbies, but I will take your advice... Thanks again very appreciated...

If it was mine, I would solder it myself, allowing the solder to drop onto the needle/diaphram joint. I have repaired holes in aluminium diaphrams with araldite. But, your after an expert opinion....I am just someone who tries things!

Here's a link to a supplier/repairer:fonograf.com/about/ He's Ken Priestley of Holmfirth Antiques. I've always found him helpful & willing to give advice. As for the repair, solder may well work, but if the stylus bar is broken away from the aluminium parts, remember that its not possible to solder aluminium! I'd be inclined to try superglue or epoxy resin. Also, since its taken a knock, check the adjustment of those pivots. Have a look at my channel if you wish, several gramophones & records, including a rare 'Marathon' gramophone & a Collaro RC1 autochange. as far as I know they're the only examples on KZbin.

Is it worth the cost of someone charging for repair compared to buying one. I don't know. You know more than me. No music??
@AllMy78s6 жыл бұрын
No music as I didn't want to make the video unnecessarily long, and maybe putting people off watching it.. My main concern is finding out information on the damaged soundbox I will upload the record soon... Thanks mate.. :)

No, that was best thing that could happen for your records. There is only one way to fix it and that's with a hammer and then throw away the soudbox and whole player and get an electric player and stop destroing records. Records has survived 70 years or more but if this trend goes on there will not be any records left to play soon.

Are you dumb? Destroy and throw away such an antique?! Plus the portable which is one of the best?? You better be joking, these Hard 78'S were designed for Heavy reproducers...

And the best thing how to fix your "Cars" is throw them at a scrapyard ;)

@@thevoid3296 let me refrase it: keep the darn thing but don't use it. Old hard shellac, acoustically recorded, are made for these crankers, BUT!! the problem is now that people play newer 78 's (eg. Bill Haley, Rock Around the clock) discover the disaster and sell them on E..Y as "good condition", "VG+" etc. when they in fact are destroyed by the steel needle cranker from hell. Remember that no more are made so in this new trend "let me play this wonderful, rare, 78 to get some thumbs up on KZbin-trend will be the end of many records. So far collectors has known this for long time but recently many collections ends up in the hands of dumbasses saying, " oh, i picked up this rare collection of 78's and let me play this rare record on olpa's cranker...and give me a thumb up or better subscribe, it's gona be destroyed but I don't care because i gonna sell it on E..Y later"...and records goes in circulation sounding like crap. Yesterday i smashed a 1956 original Rock Around the Clock just to put it out of misery and I feel sorry for all people that seriously believe that thats the way they sound.. They sound great if they are not destroyed by... do you get this at all? probably not...keep on cranking... but don't sell the sh.t on E..Y later :)
@ifixmycarmyself25023 жыл бұрын
@@theantiquescollector2199 Yes, don't worry. That's probably where they end up sooner or later but we need to spend time, or waste time, doing something to avoid madness. But for some it is already to late. you'll se when they destroy records with a cranker, then it's to late. ;)

@@ifixmycarmyself2502 Welp, the 20's, 30's, and maybe 40's records aren't *that* dangerous for them, but as you said, the records From 50's like Bill Haley are dangerous and get worn really fast on them.
