Hey Jen, my name is Geoff Miclat and I've been Clint's casting director for the past 12 years and I've worked in his casting department for just over 20. This was one of my earliest films I worked on and I hope you enjoyed it. It was a difficult, but extremely gratifying film to cast. We asked Clint if he wanted to cast the Hmong roles with Hmong people and he said yes. In 2008, this was a monumental task. There were virtually no Hmong actors around. All the Hmong actors in the film (with the exception of "Spider") were people we found. We traveled to the largest Hmong population centers in the US and we scoured local Hmong markets and festivals as well as putting ads in Hmong newspapers and radio stations. It was a stressful time, but such a wonderful experience. I love watching people react to this film. It brings back so many happy memories. Best, Geoff

Great reaction Jen. The reason Walt didn’t bring a gun is because the thugs could have killed him and plead “self defense”; then they don’t go to jail. Walt knew his limitations. He’s an old man not a young action star who’s going to attack the gang and kill them all. He carefully thought of a plan that would accomplish all his goals. Other Clint films to watch,, Kelly’s Heroes , and , Heartbreak Ridge. Thanks

Well said. the neighborhood was living in fear. Nobody would talk. But everybody knew Walt and what he had done. And he set it up to where everybody and their grandmother literally saw what happened when they gunned an unarmed man, a war vet in cold blood on their front lawn. That's not gonna sit pretty with a jury, a judge and those reading the paper or seeing the news. The neighbors couldn't hide/turn away anymore the one person who stood up for them was killed in front of them. Only fair they spoke up on his behalf.

This movie reminds me of my father after my mother passed away. He had his routine and his buddies and hangouts, and when my mother passed he had to adjust to several things in the modern world. It wasn't like he was frozen in time - he just had limited exposure to the modern world since my mother did the shopping and handled the bills. My mother would visit with the pastor of our church in her final year, and when she passed our pastor would stop by and visit with my father. The main difference is my father didn't carry the heavy psychological burden Walt carried. He liked visiting with the pastor.

I 100% agree that that is exactly how Walt wanted to go out, especially with how torn up he was about the stuff he did during the war. He didn't want to die slowly of cancer, and he didn't want to have to kill more people just because, even though he maybe could have. This was the only way for him to have a quick death and give the neighborhood, Sue, and Tao any sort of peace. We also know how they truly felt, because the whole neighborhood came out as witnesses instead of clamming up and protecting their own. So in that sense they were sticking up for Walt as one of their own against the gang, and he did it without a gun so that they couldn't claim self defense. The will reading is also just awesome. The rat bastard family gets nothing, and the only person who gets anything is the one person who never expected anything. It's also just satisfying to hear him publicly acknowledge Tao as his friend, especially with the earlier reference just after he locked him in the basement.

I think that this is one of those movies where it brings men to tears as much as, if not more than women. There's something about a man sacrificing himself for someone else that I think just hits a man's heart a little harder than it does a woman's. Plus, the character growth of a hardened man like this is something that is great to see. Nice reaction, and there's never a reason to apologize for crying, or not crying. It came out the same year as "Gran Torino", and in my opinion is the superior movie of the two. It's a dark story, but very compelling and Jolie gives one of her best performances. Thanks for everything, Jen!

Jen, if anybody is complaining and/or getting upset that you didn't cry at a specific scene in a movie, then there's no way they are real fans of yours, and you should just pay them no mind! More than likely they clicked on your video because you happen to be reacting to one of their favorite movies, and they're the type of people who can't handle somebody not having the same reaction as they do... You are awesome, and your reactions are genuine and entertaining as "frig", so keep doing what you're doing, and don't give any more energy to the crybaby snowflakes in your comment section! Lol
