Here's a few more cars that I didn't put in my honorable mentions as I thought that list was already getting long with 12 picks. 1. 1993 Honda Civic Sedan/Ferio SiR/Ferio VTI, the sedan Civic is about as powerful as the hatch and is cheaper. The only flaw is that it's 200lbs heavier. It annoys me that I forgot to include this as I tested the car days ago and was thinking about how it should be in the video somewhere. 2. Daihatsu Mira TR-XX '91, it's a fun little Kei car that does the job. It's fairly okay for lower powered races (including the Lightweight K Cup) and has it's own one-make race that you can use. So, I don't think it would be too bad of a start. 3. Suzuki Alto Works RS-Z '97, a similar reason to the Mira. It has it's own one-make race and you can probably get a win from 3 events at least (lightweight K Cup). It just didn't cut the mustard enough for being one of the best choices. 4. Toyota Corolla Levin BZ-G '96, another decent starter car from Toyota for lowered power events. I just didn't included it for the best as I still think the 3 Toyotas I picked were better, plus I think putting 4 Toyota models would be pushing it. Note: Not available as a starter in the NTSC version. 5. Toyota Mark II, similar to the Levin above. Also not available to start with in the NTSC release. 6. Nissan Primera 2.0Te '95, I mentioned the '91. So, considered this in the same spot with the 1991 model. Note: You can only start with this in the PAL Version.

Funny you list the '97 Alto and not the '90 Alto which has the exact same specs (even if fully modified) and is 4000 credits cheaper, does the '90 Alto don't appear in every version of the game?

the supra twin turbo, man! When we first started playing GT2, my brother and I, we overlooked the used cars like proper snobs. But the only car that you could buy new was the yaris, the freaking yaris. And we bought it. Just because it was new and not used. Lets Just say trying to progress with that made us somewhat more open minded in subsequent playthroughs. When we set eyes on the Supra, it was like we found gold.

Just watched the all supras video made by donut. When I saw the supra mk3 it unlocked all my memories playing with my dad when I was a kid. Always starting with the licenses and then buying the supra mk3 the cheapest and fastest haha. Came right away to look for “best car to start in gt2” and here it is damn good memories. Great vid!

Personally I always pick the Skyline GTS25 Type S over the GTS-t Type M, it handles great on stock tires (So does the GTS-t admittedly), and it has a significant price advantage (the cheapest I've seen a GTS-t go for is 8,728 Cr, while the cheapest GTS25 is 5,316 Cr), but the deciding factor for me is that it isn't above 197 BHP (185 BHP stock, unlike the GTS-t Type M at 211 BHP stock), meaning it's easy to make it competitive in events limited to 197 BHP, which is good in the early game.

The first car i bought for GT2 was a mazda protege GTX, it wasnt a bad car, but once did the first japan nationals race i tried the second was underpowered, so i sold it and bought a Mk3 supra. i majorly regret it, it was way to out of control, and i could barely beat any races with it, so i was financially stuck. i got so angry i deleted my save and started again. i havent touched the game since, so it was kinda surprising to see it as the best starter.

To my surprise my first starter car was, I think a Toyota starlet, I competed with it in the Japanese nationals and grinded that first race for quite a while before being able to afford a Nissan silvia 1995, then I bought a supra from 1996 and equipped a stage 1 turbo to it, after finishing Japan nationals, I went straight to the special events, from that point on, I dominated the races until I reached gran turismo all stars races, and sold that TVR speed 12 countless times, and now I got more than 89 cars, including the powerful Suzuki escudo pikes peak version that I used for the final gran turismo championship, I personally like to call the car: "THE ANTI RUBBER BANDING MEGA WEAPON", and that's it for me, wish me luck on those endurance races

I used it in the Japanese to American Nationals didn't use it in Germany tho because it was too weak, but it's an amazing car really. It handles well and it drives fast when fully upgraded with super soft racing tires.

Late reply: Sorry, I don't think I saw your question initially when you commented this. Anyway, it isn't valid in all GT games. It really couldn't be, which is why I made lists for the first 4 GT titles. Each GT game gives you different options on what you can start with, so you're not going to get the same result in GT4 as GT1 for instance. Another reason is that some cars on this list either will not appear in the other GT games, end up being too expensive for the starting budget in those games, or both. I.E. You can start with a EG Civic for GT1,2, & 4, but the EG Civic in GT3 will be over the 18,000cr budget you have. The Nissan Pulsar GTI-R I listed here isn't in GT3 and onwards and while it's in GT1, it costs more in that game. Probably because it's not as old as it is in GT2.

To my understanding the best starter car is either the '87 Starlet or the GTI-R, because both are the best cars elegible for certain manufacturer events (Starlet and Pulsar/Sunny respectively). Both get outperformed by better cars you need to buy/win to do other manufacturer races (GT-R which is also turbo and 4wd like the GTI-R and Golf 1.8 which is also fwd and turbo like the Starlet). While the GTI-R is much faster than the Starlet, the Starlet is between the 30 best fwd cars of the game, given that the fastest cars in the game are 4WD, the Pulsar isn't near that number, also the Starlet is cheaper than the GTI-R The Super Turbo needs to be bought because it's the fastest and cheapest choice for the March/Micra event but gets outperformed by another turbo fwd car... the '87 Starlet. Funnily enough, the Starlet is cheaper than the Super Turbo so you get more bang for your buck. I usually go with either the '83 Trueno (although it gets listed as the '85 model on the classifieds) or the MR2 which is cheaper.

Your top 5 vs my top 5 1. RX7 GTX, probably one of if not most expensive starter BUT it's a FULL GAME car with a high modification tree and its turboed. 2. AE86 1983, great tuner and great handling car with applications in 4 categories 3. 1993 Civic Si Hatch or sedan, you placed it in honorable mentions but its cheapness and versatility is highly underrated IMO 4. 94 Celica, similar reasons as the civic although its starting cost is about 4k higher 5. 96 Accord Sedan [my personal favorite as it was MY IRL 1st car] handles extremely well and is STABLE for an FF car on par with Civic Si sedan imo And finally 1 extra 1993 Supra Turbo it's the speed runners car of choice but for those that like a sporty feel this car definitely doesn't have it but its FAST and light compared to the RZ

Late reply, sorry: If I did a top 5, it actually would more likely go like this and my reasons are about the same. 1. Mk.3 Toyota Supra Turbo, I stand by my opinion when I say that this (or the Twin Turbo R if you have the PAL version) is the best car to start with. It's faster and cheaper than most of the other cars you can start with plus having room for upgrades at the start. 2. FC Mazda RX-7 Infini III 3. 1991 Nissan Pulsar GTI-R (as I mentioned before), it just handles better imo than any of the other hatchbacks I've seen and accelerates quicker. Plus having a tad bit of money left for upgrades at the start. 4. 1991 Toyota Celica GT-Four RC (ST185) 5. 1991 Honda Prelude Si VTEC (4th Gen) Your top 5 is fine except for one problem, you can't buy a Honda Accord at all in the start of GT2. I've checked multiple times, at least on NTSC v1.1, the Japan and the PAL versions anyway. There were none I saw for under 10,000 credits. Hence why I didn't mention it and just picked the Civic and Prelude instead. Also, I actually only put the Civic Sedan in honorable mentions. If you watch the video again, you'll see that I did put the Hatch on my main list. :)

I started a new playthrough recently and tried making it a little harder so i cheaped out on the starter car and only used used cars. If you waste some days doing licenses you can ģet a silvia K on the 11th day for 3800cr which really makes it the best most economical option though if total power after upgrades is what matters to you then a used supra MA70 is a really solid option though oversteer easily so you need to have proper technique. Second option the celica gt four

This is a cool video. I was just playing GT2 and was curious about this. I'm still rocking that red Supra, been upgrading the crap out of it. As a kid, I usually picked the CRX Si or the MR2. This Supra... man, this thing spins out so quickly. Upgraded it too quickly, so I'll have to save money for the MR2 or CRX for some of those events I missed.

@@this_connor_guy Ah, you're referring to those tracks. The trick is to just approach them more carefully, especially on tracks like Grindelwald with elevation changes. GT2's physics can get wonky with hilly sections. It happens honestly with any car with more power.

I'm using ePSXe v1.9.0 to play this on and I'm using some kind of gpu that came with the emulator. It's a version of Pete's PSX GPU plugin, I believe. There's also another emulator than can make the game look better (I'm told) called PCSXR, but I tried it and I didn't like it.

Alright, I have aswell. BTW, the Supra you're thinking about is the Mk.3 Twin Turbo R and it costs 9,405 cr at the start, but only on the PAL version.

I recently started replaying GT2 and I am glad I picked the R32 Skyline GTS-t Type M. It seems almost ideal to learn FR driving in as it's almost perfectly balanced, as opposed to the S13 Silvia which lurches between oversteer and understeer and feels very mushy in general. I have heard Silvias called (unflatteringly) "Japanese Mustangs" and I can see why; would you rather have a Japanese S195 V6 Mustang or a Japanese E36 3-series? To me the choice is clear--the Silvia is overrated. With tuning it will remain competitive all the way up to the Euro/Pacific Leagues too. EDIT: a big shame they screwed up the drivetrain on the Skyline 280 MR, because I love RWD Skylines and would have loved to take one all the way to endgame. The Tommykaira M30 has power but it doesn't have racing modification so it's no good for the World Championship.

I finished GT2 so many times, even this no licence way, asi a small kid I hated oversteer and always bought Prelude, later (and in most cases) FC RX-7 and once tried Supra but still prefer RX-7 over Supra because Supra felt a bit like a boat for me. Agreed with every car in vid, also that featherweight Civic is pocket rocket when maxed out and useful for that IB touring (JTCC X BTCC) challenge

@@Martinec1998 Alright then, good...good. I think there was a time where I kept starting with Civics as a kid or with the Celica GT-Four RC. Though when I was a kid, RWD cars were hard to drive. I remember spinning out a few times in a Silvia S13 for instance.
