An extra note: you can get a tiny boost in acceleration if you apply the gear trick in a different manner, however it's much more involved and requires a lot of trial and error. The acceleration boost is most noticeable in GT2. In GT4, the boost is so insignificant from my testing that it's not worth going for IMO. The gear trick example shown in this video stores an "internal" final drive of 5.500 (the ratio when auto is set to 1), then an "external" final drive of 3.800 (the ratio after you've applied the trick and stretched out the gears). Optimally, you want the external final to be as low as possible (2.500 in this example), which means you need to figure out what the internal final needs to be, so the car's gears will be long enough after you set the external final to 2.500. In my GT2 Ultimate Guide, I outlined a method for this: go into a machine test, apply the gear trick with internal final 5.500, move 1st gear all the way to the left, lower the final drive, then test the car's launch in the machine test so it launches smoothly without stalling or excess wheelspin. Take note of the external final (let's say it's 3.500), subtract the lowest possible final from the external final to get the difference (in a car with a final range of 2.500 - 5.500, this would be 2.500, so 3.500 - 2.500 = 1.000), add a 'magic number' of 0.450 (1.000 + 0.450 = 1.450), then subtract this number from the highest possible final (5.500 - 1.450 = 4.050). Re-do the gear trick again, but set final to 4.050 instead of 5.500, then move the final slider to 2.500 and arrange the individual gears as normal. You can see an example of this here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jGGpiqKfbZ2mqNk There is one more gear trick specific to vanilla versions of GT4 (it won't work on GT4 Online builds) that completely breaks the ratio ranges and allows you to create free-form gear ratios. When you apply the gear trick, the game stores the internal final drive used, even if you exit the gear setup screen without saving your changes. If you first apply the gear trick with final 5.500, move 1st gear all the way left and 2nd gear all the way right, save, re-enter, apply it again with final 3.600, press Cancel, then re-enter, the individual sliders for 3rd and 4th gear will be extremely misaligned and you can create ridiculously small RPM drops. You can then save, re-enter, and do it again with final 2.800 to adjust 5th and 6th in the same manner. This trick doesn't have a proper name yet, but I have some example setups in my GT4 Tune List if you Ctrl+F for "hyper-close gear setup".
@mrspandel5737Ай бұрын
Does the hyper-close ratio glitch only work with those specific values or can it be applied with any final drive? Was thinking about applying it on a GSX-R4 which has a shorter final drive range between 3.500 and 6.500 Edit: managed to figure out how this exploit works, now its time to figure out how not to accidentally turn it from a 6-speed to a 5-speed 😂

I'll admit, I was worried for a moment when you revealed your voice, as throughout my years of watching youtube channels, I start to lose interest when normally silent channels start using their voice for their main videos (primarily Viperconcept). But I have to say despite the echo, you made a great first impression! Fantastic job, and I look forward to more videos of this type in the future! Also worth noting, I recall this trick also working in GT Sport and 7. I think the trick works the same in Sport, but in 7 it's a little more finicky. It's not really relevant in both games (unless the trick was used to make the Tomahawk X much slower), since the purpose of them are obviously much more cattered to online than these first 6 games (RIP Sport). I have to admit also, I really like the fact Gran Turismo 1 doesn't have the gear trick, as it gives each car a more distinct personality in their gearboxes when adjusting them as opposed to using a universal chart. That's just me though. The gear trick is still cool.

Glad to hear! Interesting that you managed to pick out the echo. I did a lot of vocal processing with delay/reverb to help mesh the voiceover with the backing track, basically the same way I'd mix it if I was singing, except less egregious. I'll refine the FX chain as I'm going along, I guess. Yeah, I would have given a bigger shout-out to the PS3/PS4 games if I had a way to record footage properly for them, especially since close gears make a massive difference in modern GT where launch starts are way less common and the 1st gear sacrifice has almost zero drawbacks unless you spin out or something.

@@TeaKanji interesting. I have a microphone that I used for over a decade and I simply put on a muffler that looks like a British Royal Guard's hat primarily to avoid all the mouth pops. Honestly my least favorite part of making videos of my own has always been audio editing. I take this stuff very seriously but it's so tedious putting it all together.

sorta unrelated to the video but i just wanted to say that I really appreciate your tuning guide for gt4 and the fact that you have a dedicated tune list for gt4 (and gt2 save with tunes) as well. its really helped a lot with my replaythrough of gt4 and I'm very glad that you've shared this knowledge about this old ass video game lol. that being said do you have any plans to update it with more cars whenever you get the time? there's a lack of some 80's-90's Japanese cars that, while I think I can do a decent job with tuning them with the knowledge from those vids, it would still really be nice to see lol. stuff like the 80's mr2, ae86, celica, rx7s and fairlady z's and the 90's stuff like the older imprezas and evos. or even some one make cars that arent on there like triumph spitfire, some isuzus, or a mirage. of course there's no rush (or even obligation) to do them, just would be nice. anyways thanks again for putting so much hard work and effort into your guides, this stuff will be so valuable for others to come and enjoy this classic game as well. also race spec midget 2 hybrid when

Glad to hear the tunes have been working well! Yeah, I've been pretty much adding tunes here and there whenever I've had the time and motivation, there's still a lot of cars I'd like to make tunes for eventually. I also still need to revisit a bunch of existing tunes, since many were made before I had access to SpecDB stats and use sub-optimal ways of improving the car's handling. I'll get around to them (especially the one-make ones) over time.

I believe GT1 lacks a final gear and auto setting, which are necessary for the trick to work.
@TeaKanji8 ай бұрын
Yeah, GT1 doesn't have an auto setting slider so there is no trick. However, you also don't really need one, since GT1 has the most flexible gear setup screen out of all GT games. You can make ridiculously close gears by simply arranging the individual sliders from left-to-right, then adjusting final afterwards so the car has enough top speed (my GT1 guide does it for the Viper GTS-R to get 750 RPM drops).
