A bad mistake? Warlord mega Mystery box.

I've never understood the appeal of mystery boxes. It seems to me that it's a cheap way of acquiring lots of things you don't want, thus helping Warlord clear their warehouse whilst adding to the burden of your own plastic/lead mountain. Maybe if when purchasing a box they asked you to tick five boxes of areas of interest and they themed the mystery box to those areas whilst throwing in items common to all wargamers such as paints and scenic items then I would have a punt, but frankly there were probably two things there that I could use and the rest would end up on a bring and buy. By the way I never commented, but I purchased two French Army ration boxes after your video and have them stored ready for emergency.

Thanks Ralph, yes it was a disaster. I did get some things that were ok. I think the worst thing to me was that box of Japanese. Yes French rations are delicious they say some of the worlds best military rations.

It would be cool if they did themed boxes like black powder or bolt action ect.

Yes that would be cool even if they had a choice of a theme that made up a bigger chunk of the box. Still would not stop me getting those Japanese though. Possibly the most useless item apart from that k47 turret.

only people in groups, that play EVERY warlord game, should buy any kind of mistery box. That way you are sure that everyone will get something out of it.

Those boxes are always to be a gamble, there will be items in there that they have a surplus off.Other boxes had magazines from 2001/2018 in it some had rulebooks in not something i would buy.

I was a kid i never bothered with buying a Lucky dip . Never wanted useless items. Even my work van was sparse enough to do the job not shit i needed 10 years ago. I only do Napoleonic these days

I do do a few other things. But napoleonic’s is my primary work. I am getting close to finishing a French Corps. It has taken over 6 months of hardcore work and I am a Brigade and a handful of command away from finishing it.

I was lucky to get stuff that I wanted or that my friends wanted. Really glad I held out and didn't get a mega-box though, sorry to see that your box was disappointing.

Hi Anthony well yes what can you say . Some of the thing are useful but on a whole not good at all. Warlord were badgering for several weeks saying I would be missing out if I didn't buy one of the mystery boxes. But I refused as the last one was total rubbish so never again. Take care Terry

Lol that would be right. Although I struck out bad in my opinion I am not really angry or anything. I am just disappointed I broke the probability laws of getting items I already had those Japanese got me flipping. Of all the sets Japanese really? Lol

I am not sure they have different fez and different webbing no blade and not french rifles. I was thinking perhaps they are colonial Italian troops they have Webbing that looks Italian and the rifles look more Carcano than French. I could not match the positions with any of the Senegalese figures? I am still baffled but I am positive they are not french.

@@granapriego I think they're Skytrex/Trent figures as opposed to Warlord, but I can't confirm because it's the one WWI French range that they don't have a photo for.

I was the sacrificial goat. It was pretty poor. Still annoyed with the Japanese. Of all the boxes and I end up with those. Possibly the most useless bolt action troops I could have got. Utterly useless to me.

Shame this one didn’t work out for you Anthony. Never seen anyone who was happy with one of these though. Just seems like a way for warlord to get rid of stuff they can’t sell or to try and hook you into their new games, e.g. the Epic sprue.

Yes lesson learnt. I should have guessed that it would not be amazing. But to have things I already have was a bit surprising. And along with the Japanese and the Tesla turret being perhaps the worst items.

Shame this hasnt worked out well for you. I've had mixed success with mystery boxes in the past and generally avoid them, especially Warlords as they tend to be clearing off stuff they cant sell or old stock. I had the first one warlord did which was a huge disappointment so said i wouldn't get one again. That being said I did get the smaller mystery box this time round i think £40 and used a few warlord medals on it too. It worked out reasonably well, only 1 vehicle/kit in it that i would find a use for but the rest ended up on ebay and in the end i turned a small profit (even after fleebay fees), and kept the vehicle i had a use for. My suggestion would be list the rest on ebay, and you should recoup some of the outlay. The best mystery box I ever got was from Northstart, it was a lovely box full of assorted metal blisters and plastic sprues.

Thanks, yes like I said at the start I tend to avoid them too. Just had an urge to try it had potential to be pretty good. I thought some good bolt action stuff maybe a few other semi decent items. I ended up with a lot I already had like the Japanese and the hanomag. The Sherman is cool. Other peoples seem way better than mine I in typical and foreseeable fashion lucked out. Ow well.

I think Ralph said it the best. If you’re into eBay ( I’m not so I don’t know how feasible it might be), maybe try and get some money back by selling off the stuff you don’t want.

i`m guessing selling mystery boxes is a way of then getting more future sales, because then you get Romans or something which you might not have an interest in therefore you get dragged into that genre ie Romans then you feel like being obliged to buy buy more Romans to expand on your roman army you had no intention of playing / creating in the first place ... anyhow look forward to seeing them all done Anthony

I hope you didn't pay too much for the box rather disappointing I'd say.I guess it's a way for warlords to flog stuff they can't shift.As you say you can never have too much paint and the tufts are useful.🐻🤗👍

Yeah it was pretty pricey. It was a big gamble and although not a total disaster still a big fail. If you look through some of the answers you can find the price.

That is a shame mate. Have to confess I haven't really looked into mystery boxes and I think this is a big negative to them. Obviously I do not know how much it cost, but with the stuff your received, what value do you think you got of the items you will use?👍

Thanks Mate, it was £100 and your supposed to get like £250 worth of items including limited stuff and a few unreleased items. most of it is completely useless to me. The Bolt action vehicles can be used although when I will actually do them is a mystery to itself. I would say the most disappointing item is probably the Jpanese Infantry because not only are they useless I have 2 boxes of them already in my mountain. the paintset and tufts were ok lol. Anyway hope you enjoyed the video if anything.
