For anyone more interested in building Vane as a dps, the key to his consistent damage is his Cooldown Reduction Sigil "Hero's Will" because despite the numbers on it looking fairly low on paper, it'll reduce your cooldowns by an insane amount. (In fact, I would still recommend using it on a tank-oriented Vane because it can easily let you get off 1-2 more Ramparts per quest and have almost permanent uptime on the Provoke.) Important here is that you'll want to exclusively use his Square, Square, Triangle, Triangle (or AABB, or XXYY) combo. This combo is unique in that its combo finisher is a multi-hit, with each hit triggering the cooldown reduction of his sigil (as well as any Supplementary Damage procs *also* triggering the cooldown reduction sigil, making Supp Dmg even better on Vane than it already would be normally) so by consistently sticking to the enemy and hitting those multi-hit finishers, your cooldowns are going to be ready before you can even blink. Since your cooldowns will be astronomically low with this method, you'll of course want to take as many offensive skills as you can, though Rift Divider can be left out for a Rampart or a buff if you want, since it animation locks you for so long and you'll usually want to time it rather than just immediately throw it out when the cd comes off, which is what you'll want to do here with your skills. With this build, since you'll want to be hitting those finishers all the time, using the Beatdown combo is kind of a waste because it takes very long to finish, but it's fun to hit so do it anyway if you want.

hitting every point, great comment! also we should mention that potion horder, auto revival and guts should be must for every character. your post should be pinned @ruri this crab sigil combo you running isn't that great, you get way more out of it, if you run tyrant or stamina with aegis on it, that way you can run both of them, get both atk boosts and still be round 40k - 41k HP

@@cavsfightingroom3692 Yeah I feel like Potion Horder is basically mandatory on everyone (maybe not Vaseraga) with just how much healing, free link gauge and revives you get out of it. I think you can get away with just taking Guts *or* Autorevive (personally I prefer guts) especially if your character has some built-in defense or healing like Vane does. Yeah I didn't mention it cause I didn't wanna seem nitpicky, but Crabvestment Returns is actually worse on Vane than on most characters. Because of the way Damage Cut stacks with any other sources of Damage Cut, it'll get smaller returns the more sources you have. In this case the innate Damage Cut from Stout Heart (30%) as well as the Damage Cut from Hero's Creed (20%) are already stacking to ca. 45% damage reduction, adding the 10% from Crabvestment only ups it to ca. 50% damage reduction. (Unless Crabvestment for some reason doesn't work like other Damage Cut sources? Not sure on this, so I just assume it doesn't.)

Agree, playing a dps build should be the approach. The game already has an op block and dodge. Learn to better position yourself and monster movements so you can invest in more dps.

Vane was the very first character to hit 7.4mil on my OG GBF account. If you want Vane to be a Tank/DPS check his kit on GBF wiki…it’s called Soul Eruption

The ideal combo is actually the two normal hits before you start the finisher. That's because the finisher for that one actually hits multiple times. Why does that matter? Well, his character sigil that reduces cooldowns by 3% on finishers is actually 3% *per hit.* This is pretty significant because you can reduce those cooldowns a ton. Especially when you also run supplementary damage because those hits actually count too. So then you can spam skills like energy destruction, which hits like a truck.

NGL, I bought this game for Vane. I'm pretty bad atm and still going through the campaign, but greatly appreciate the basics breakdown on how to play him. So many guides only focus on endgame builds that I have no idea what they are talking about. I like your approach to guides. Thank you!

Here's my current "best" Vane build.(you can use it for nearly every character too). >Awakening sigil >War Elemental >Damage cap x 4 >Supp Damage x 3 (procs his sigil to trigger cooldown faster) >Tyranny >Critical Hit / Stamina >Stout heart You need to get steel nerves and potion hoarder on second sigil, but besides that everything else is whatever you want.(guts, cooldown, etc.) Always recommend aegis to get his HP up from Tyranny. [Skills are wrong in video]: Should be Heroic Beat (Gap Closer), Energy Destruction(always use off CD), and Arm Destruction(Always use off CD). Then w/e you want for third skill. The playstyle is to cycle skill > Finisher > Skill > Finisher. and the 2 hit combo into finisher (to proc more CD). In the video it uses Rift Divider, which doesn't really work for bosses and a buff that you shouldn't even bother with because (it doesn't go past cap) and hostility means ultimately nothing.

I personally always go with the potion hoarder, steel nerves, stout heart, autorevive and guts then build damage with caps and other stuff with pretty much any character. Then go with the gap closer, to always be on melee range the stun to aggressibely proc the link attack Energy Destruction (usually with uplift if I can) The invincibility shield Then I just face tank everything and have pots for days with not really much sacrifice on the damage side of things since my personal strategy with vane is just go unga bunga on the boss.

@@sebastianthebrave1007 Vane with his character sigil every time he finishes a combo with triangle reduces the CD of his skills, for some reason at the end of the combo if the additional damage (supplemental damage) is activated this passive is activated 2 times therefore it would be reducing the CD of the skills 2 times, I don't know if it's a bug but that's why I say it's a MUST

@@taihaku cascade doesnt do much for vane, many have tested it out specifically on vane only. i also noticed no difference, save yourself a slot or 2 take out the cascade

@Yeun7 then you need to get your eyes check take heros will cascade and supplement dmg go do combo finishers on the training dummy and watch the CD comeback faster Cascade is only noticeable rank 13+ but only has 20 lvls to it cascade only needs to be run as a seconday sigil not a main slot as pink sigils can't roll with any secodary effects

Vane main here I put most of my focus in my build into stun power and cooldown, because during Link Time you have unlimited Beatdown gauge and I like being able to use my skills as often as possible. Rampart to protect peeps thru the painful attack mechanics, Arm Destruction to get those Link Attacks going as often as possible, Heroic Beat as a gap closer when monsters are running all over so I can keep my uptime going, and so far I've been using Rift Divider during Breaks and Paralysis and such but I might switch to Energy Destruction if you're saying it does more damage

As someone who just started doing endgame, I love vane I build him full DPS with stamina and life on the line, because of his self sustain with heroic beat and combo finishers I use drachenstoltz because it gives a free proc of guts that never goes away, really increasing your survivability And because his heavy attacks treat him as guarding I have an increased block sigil, better to take no damage than less damage am I right

Fun fact about blocking, especially since you're already using Improved Guard: You can just hold block while doing anything. You can keep holding block while attacking and it'll automatically swap to the block if possible when you get it. You can also hold block while dodging, so if you miss the perfect dodge, you still block the hit anyway.

Good video. I love Vane so much. I see a lot of tutorials which show how best to build him as a DPS, which is fine... But, for me, that's not the way to go. There are so many other characters who are best supported for that role so, it's refreshing to see a tutorial that really gets him. I think - maybe cynically - that a large demographic of younger players have a COD mentality: DPS = best player. I grinded Bahamut tonight and grabbed me 9 Terminus weapons, one of which is Vane's. Looking forward to levelling it and, indeed, playing it how it's meant to: impenetrable wall of tanky doom 😏 Cheers for the vid 👍

While not a bad build it could definitely be improved upon. Don’t use the beat down combo 3 hit square into combo finish is better for damage and cooldown once you get his Sigil. Get supplemental dmg in the build asap. Use 3 attack skills to get more combo finishers. Vane is all about just spamming skills and combo finishers. Lastly if u want to be defensive get improved dodge maxed. Having 8 dodges is insane and nimble defense You’ll have so much I frames and invulnerability it’s stupid.

"Hero's will" shorten the cooldown after landing a combo. For the skill "Rampart" (the buble) with: combo A : 50 sec cooldown combo B : 35 sec cooldown combo C: 1m40 sec cooldown with supplementary damage lvl 10 combo B went to 28 sec cooldown If you replace Hero's will with quick cooldown lvl 45 it takes 2min45 sec, fucking useless LMAO

"steel nerves" gives you stout hart, so putting the stout hart sigil on your build is kinda double dipping as far as i'm aware.

That’s a problem with the game being so easy, his kit is designed to use beatdown to punch through boss attacks, but you can just do that with stout heart with any character so it doesn’t matter.
