I was able to take a couple of my Grandkids on the steam train in the past. Great trip. The kids loved the back robbers that stopped the train. They made my Grandson, who was 6, an honorary member of their gang. Good times!

Back when my wife was still alive, we took t trip to Arizona which included the Grand Canyon. We drove from the south entrance, where we were staying, out to Williams to catch the train that you just took, only we bought tickets for the parlor car on the back of the train. They had their own steam engine to pull the train. The actors in their little play about a train robbery came through the train and then several of them parked themselves in the parlor car and conversed with us. We had a good time!! When we went, we entered via the south entrance to the park. They gave us a receipt that we could use for reentry for five days. I wanted to see some of the surrounding country, so I drove out the east entrance and along the river observing the the habitation etcetera along the way. When I got back to the Park and showed my receipt for reentry, they accused me of buying it from somebody that had not stayed their full allotted time. I explained why I had a receipt from one entrance, but was now using it for another entrance. It took some arguing but they finally let mt in. I was pretty disgusted with that!!

We bought lifetime passes when they offered them. Like $20 for both! They don’t do that anymore. I wonder why??

Movie makers were the Kolb brothers. Filmed running the Colorado River. Showed the film they made for many years at the South Canyon. After they died and were clearing out the "house" apparently found a skeleton in an old river boat!

the storm was impressive. One thing that surprised up, we went to the far end of the canyon, had to catch the train back to Williams, jumped on a bus to get back, and half way back the time changed a hour back. so we ended up being a hour early for the train

Riding a steam train has got to be one of the most memorable experiences that anyone can have. Thanks again for another great video!

The Grand Canyon was a real joy to ride last spring...unfortunately I couldn't rearrange my schedule to push our trip back a few days to ride the 4960 so F40s it was. Still had the chance to get a good look at the 29 parked at the Williams depot and saw the 4960 outside the shop getting fired up for the weekend so not all lost!

@@ToyManTelevision Yes, it was a magical trip. Great weather, mostly sunny, with some clouds. We went during a new moon. The Grand Canyon is a prime location for stargazing. Our room was on the top floor southwest corner, with a deck. It was not an excellent canyon view room location, but for stargazing during a new moon, I had a blast seeing the planet Venus about an hour after sunset.

Well… everyone is converting to “oil”. Is what it is. But if they started a fire in the park… but the biggest issue is getting coal. The shipping makes it to expensive. And as more mines close it will only get more expensive.
