Wow this has a unique tone & seems very expressive .It may even have value in a modern Western symphony orchestra. It's also multitimbral / slightly polyphonic, whereas most wind instruments are monotimbral. I might even buy one.

@@laurant4282 I would say that it is, both Taiwan and the Mainland often use Mandarin for lyrics, the instruments usually the same, but I did note the presence of Aboriginal influences native to Taiwan, such as the Hakka in Taiwanese folk music.

The Dai people call it “Bilangdao” or “Boū Nàm Dao” which means “Blow Water Gourd.” It is from Yunan province but the Hulusi is most common in areas near the region capital of Xishuangbanna, or “Sip Song Panna” which means “12 thousand rice fields.” Just a little more about this wonderful instrument. It is also free reeded, just like the “Khean” or “Khaen” which is the cousin to the Chinese equivalent called the “Sheng”.
