@@faragraf9380 No, it is foreign funding from Japan, France and UNESCO. Respected Japan alone paid 400 million dollars. Egypt does not have the money to build a cultural project of this magnitude 😂 But in the end, as you said, the bills will be paid from other loans or the people's pockets. I hope that the beautiful European community will help increase the demand for this museum and promote it so that it remains able to pay its operating expenses at least, and also help the Egyptian people who are going through an ordeal to overcome their economic burdens.

@@faragraf9380 I understand your point of view, madam, and it is completely rational and correct, but you must realize that Egypt possesses a huge number of antiquities, statues, and rare pieces, in addition to its ambition to return the pieces displayed in European and American museums, which are in the millions. I think you went to the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir and saw how the pieces were neglected and poorly displayed.. In the words of UNESCO, it has become a warehouse for antiquities and not a museum containing wonderful antiquities. We must work on developing the cultural sectors and investing in them so that humanity can continue to preserve its past in the best possible way, and these projects are part of this development in construction and preservation of heritage

Great work Gus. I am arriving in Egypt on October 16th (been planned for 3 months). How long will it take to view all that is open as of October 17? I assume that it will take more than 1 day. Will a single ticket purchase get you access to multiple days?
@EgyptAdventuresTravel
@EgyptAdventuresTravel 3 ай бұрын
I’m guessing you’ll be able to see all that is on display at the moment in a 2 hour visit, and then you’ll want another hour to see the other areas the museum, have a lunch/coffee break, etc. About 60% of the museum is open at this point. The walkthrough I did shows everything that is on display, and I did the walkthrough in about 20 mins. Maximum for someone who wants to read every label, I’d say you’d want to plan a day. But personally, I’d do a half day and then see either Giza or Saqqara as well. Hope that helps!

I think it has more to do with getting scammed, not metered, or other known issues with non-app drivers. I read on Reddit that even with Uber you get not so great drivers that ignored the route and charge you extra. An excellent introduction. I’m too infirm to go now but am delighted that something we discussed back in the 80s has at last materialised. You didn’t explain the entry prices. I have always preferred to spend about 45minutes in any museum before suffering from cultural indigestion. It looks as if one can go out in the fresh air but can one get in again without paying a second or third entry? Sitting in eating places does not appeal, and I doubt if I am unique! I hope there’s a suitable place for Nefertiti when she returns to Egypt.
@EgyptAdventuresTravel

Entry prices are on their website that I talk about in the section where I show how to buy tickets 👍🏼. You can go outside and re enter as many times as you wish, at this point, as long as you don’t exit the museum campus. There are several outdoor areas you can go to that are still inside the GEM complex.

Hello, can I use a camera at GEM or just a cell phone?
@EgyptAdventuresTravel
@EgyptAdventuresTravel 3 ай бұрын
I didn’t see anyone there with a camera (just smartphones), but I’m guessing if you’re using it for tourism purposes only (not shooting photos or videos to make money), it should be fine. Does anyone have a definitive answer on this?

I'm not sure, but I know King Tut's galleries will be onsite, and the boat museum will be just outside the Great Hall (not opened yet).

Hello, really great video-thanks a lot for posting it! I just have a couple of questions, if you don't mind (I’m trying to work out whether an early trip from Geneva to visit is worth it, or if I should wait for the full opening). From what I saw in the video, I got the impression there were fewer artifacts on display (or maybe they're just more spread out?) compared to the old museum. What was your impression? Also, in the old museum, there was a room full of sarcophagi, as well as a mummy hall. Did you see anything like that when you were walking around, but just didn't include it in the video? Thanks again!
@EgyptAdventuresTravel
@EgyptAdventuresTravel 2 ай бұрын
Great questions! At this point, I feel like there is a similar amount of objects displayed, just way more room to see them and more spread out. This museum doesn’t have any human remains on display-for that, you’ll want to go to the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, where there are 22 royal mummies on display (moved from the old Egyptian Museum). There are several sarcophagi on the Grand Staircase and spread throughout the 12 main galleries-everything isn’t in one small room together like at the old museum. I think making a special, separate trip to see the GEM will be more worth it when it’s fully open. However, if you’re already planning on coming to Egypt, seeing the GEM is a good option while you’re already here, but I wouldn’t make a special trip just for the GEM until we see its full opening.

I’d recommend if they only have time to visit one museum, to visit the original Egyptian Museum to see the Tut mask. That’s the most important artifact to ancient Egypt, and it’s currently at the old museum (but will move to the GEM soon). My next recommendation would be the NMEC if they want to see mummies or the GEM if they’re more interested in beautiful statuary.

Hi there! Unfortunately I don’t know the answer to this-can anyone else help? My recommendation is to bring the camera along and then if you’re asked not to use it, put it away and use your phone, or if there’s an extra fee you can pay it on the spot if you think it’s worth it. Sorry I can’t be more help!

In the 12 galleries there was AC, and inside the restaurants. As far as I could tell, the Great Hall (the big atrium) doesn’t have AC, but it was still cool. The original Egyptian Museum has no AC at all.

Gus, based on the galleries that are now open, plus the ones that will be open in the future, how many hours does one need to see the whole museum on their own? Would it be closer to a half-day or a full day? I literally was supposed to arrive in Cairo from Los Angeles yesterday but I had to cancel my entire Egypt trip due to a shoulder injury. I am going to reschedule a year from now when the entire museum will be open.
