He was my biggest teenage theater crush, and I was so lucky to see him in this role several times. I realized it's 31 years today that he passed. Rest peacefully, Mr. Carroll. You are still so damn loved.

In 30+ years of Bway theatergoing, still the best-directed show I ever saw.

I wish you and I could sit with a cup of coffee and discuss WHY you consider this the best directed play! That would be a joy to me! No one else in my life can even imagine that a play IS directed! 😅

Fascinating to see how Michael Jeter's physical comedy in "Let's Take a Glass Together" evolved over the course of the show. It's already excellent here in 1989, but by the legendary Tony performance in '90 it was a masterpiece of slapstick! He'd exaggerated the drunkenness by the later version, whereas this version looks more controlled and dancer-like, to my eyes. Both wonderful! : )

Never again will we have the opportunity to see such a well put together, talented cast perform this wonderful music all in one place. What a gem. And to all those who miss David and Michael... We're better individuals for being able to share the time they had with us. Hold your loved ones tight! Every day is a gift.

YAY! Is this right before it was frozen? The Doctor's character descriptions are truncated (i.e. from "Her devoted companion." missing "VERY devoted...") Or am I at the age now that Boston and NYC are jumbled in my mind? ;]
@auroraspiderwoman58864 жыл бұрын
This is taken from two performances, both on Broadway. Everything up to 3:25 is from a performance well into the run, probably near the final performances for David Carroll. "Love Can't Happen" and "We'll Take a Glass" are from a NY preview. The remainder, beginning at 8:41, is from the later performance. So the doctor's descriptions you refer to are from well into the run.

I saw it three times...wanting to like it. Most of the score was forgettable and my biggest problem was the set which was not too grand. The story is great and when I see individual clips of some of the songs, I am doubting my own memory...thinking...why was this overall not better? But the performers were perfection. David Carroll's voice was peerless.
