Those logs get knocked over every year and replaced by different ones each spring when the river floods. I know of at least 15+ trees that have been hung up there in the last 7-8yrs.

My first trip to Grand Rapids was in 2011, when my company sent me to do conveyor belting work at Kellogg's on 28th Street. I was amazed at how much life was put into this city. The first place I ate was at Hop Cat, next to the Van, then on to Founders Brewing Company. After my first visit, Kellogg's was so pleased with my work, I became a regular visitor, now going on 12 years. I've had a lot of great experiences here, went to great restaurants, met very nice people, stayed at a couple great hotels, this city has everything I could ever want, better than living in Chicago (I actually live in Addison, which is a wonderful village). I love making the trips up there so much, I am seriously considering moving there, and hope to convince my job to set up a branch in GR, where I hope to finish my career. If this isn't an option, there are plenty of companies in my field I can go to. I've considered 3 areas to live so far: Walker, Comstock Park, and as north as Rockford. I love to live in a neighborhood where it's very dog-friendly, my wife and I have a 4-year-old pug, and downtown is at the very least a short drive away. There were a few Midwestern cities I considered moving to, but with the great restaurants and nearby beaches on Lake Michigan, I had to go with GR. It's where I was born to live in.

GR: Not too big, not too small. Winter is usually snowy snowy snowy, so invest in a snow blower if you have a fair size driveway. Fall is my absolute favorite time of year: the brisk chill in the air, the apples, the colors. The hardest time of year is March-May, as it is generally snowy and in the 30s one day, sunny and 60s the next, and rainy and in the 40s the following day. A time when you are begging for those calm 70s and 80s days so you can just enjoy that warm sun. Yes I am kinda tired of the snow, but I do like seasons, which this region 100% has. Also should mention the 2 fantastic malls; Rivertown and Woodland (Centerpointe is ok).
@mindakahn99644 жыл бұрын
travis Centerpointe is an amazing discount hub, as compared to the blight on the landscape that it used to be. A place where you went to the PO or the Sec of State. Walking? Never I was always afraid of attack. Unfortunately they will lose a few companies because of this pandemic. There will be others.

I've lived in GR for the last 7 years. My parents and grandparents lived here for several years when they were young adults as well. Grand Rapids is DEFINITELY a city on the move! The major downsides (as with most midwest cities) are the LONG, COLD winters and the terrible roads (seriously, watch out for potholes). GR is especially bad when it comes to roads. Overall, however, I would say that GR is one of the best places to live in the Midwest.

Where was 18:43? The bar/restaurant with the saxophone playing? Did not look like Grand Rapids.

Yep, not sure, that was one of the few stock footage clips we used.

The S-curve is like a scary roller coaster if you have bad ball joints.

The reason the riversides aren't more developed is that they flood every year. Even the paths that are already there are often under several feet of water in the spring. Recently it overflowed its banks and even flooded parts of downtown.

Question for the GR residents: What are your downtown streets that you would say are the best to look for rental apartments for someone about to move to GR for an year? Regards from Germany

North downtown would be safer and less homeless people

Wonderful video. Thank you very much! A lot of information. Great area. Here in this city lived the great chess composer Otto Wurzburg! His numerous chess problems fascinated me so much that I started doing chess problems myself.

You showed pictures of the downtown market south of heart side park on ionia, but called it the Fulton Street Farmers market. The farmers market is a few miles slightly northwest on fulton & fuller and is all outdoor. Also, the planetarium is named after Roger B. Chaffee, an Apollo Astronaut from Grand Rapids
