Those logs get knocked over every year and replaced by different ones each spring when the river floods. I know of at least 15+ trees that have been hung up there in the last 7-8yrs.

My first trip to Grand Rapids was in 2011, when my company sent me to do conveyor belting work at Kellogg's on 28th Street. I was amazed at how much life was put into this city. The first place I ate was at Hop Cat, next to the Van, then on to Founders Brewing Company. After my first visit, Kellogg's was so pleased with my work, I became a regular visitor, now going on 12 years. I've had a lot of great experiences here, went to great restaurants, met very nice people, stayed at a couple great hotels, this city has everything I could ever want, better than living in Chicago (I actually live in Addison, which is a wonderful village). I love making the trips up there so much, I am seriously considering moving there, and hope to convince my job to set up a branch in GR, where I hope to finish my career. If this isn't an option, there are plenty of companies in my field I can go to. I've considered 3 areas to live so far: Walker, Comstock Park, and as north as Rockford. I love to live in a neighborhood where it's very dog-friendly, my wife and I have a 4-year-old pug, and downtown is at the very least a short drive away. There were a few Midwestern cities I considered moving to, but with the great restaurants and nearby beaches on Lake Michigan, I had to go with GR. It's where I was born to live in.

GR: Not too big, not too small. Winter is usually snowy snowy snowy, so invest in a snow blower if you have a fair size driveway. Fall is my absolute favorite time of year: the brisk chill in the air, the apples, the colors. The hardest time of year is March-May, as it is generally snowy and in the 30s one day, sunny and 60s the next, and rainy and in the 40s the following day. A time when you are begging for those calm 70s and 80s days so you can just enjoy that warm sun. Yes I am kinda tired of the snow, but I do like seasons, which this region 100% has. Also should mention the 2 fantastic malls; Rivertown and Woodland (Centerpointe is ok).
@mindakahn9964
@mindakahn9964 4 жыл бұрын
travis Centerpointe is an amazing discount hub, as compared to the blight on the landscape that it used to be. A place where you went to the PO or the Sec of State. Walking? Never I was always afraid of attack. Unfortunately they will lose a few companies because of this pandemic. There will be others.
@travis6787

I've lived in GR for the last 7 years. My parents and grandparents lived here for several years when they were young adults as well. Grand Rapids is DEFINITELY a city on the move! The major downsides (as with most midwest cities) are the LONG, COLD winters and the terrible roads (seriously, watch out for potholes). GR is especially bad when it comes to roads. Overall, however, I would say that GR is one of the best places to live in the Midwest.

Moved here from Chicago back in 2014. Cutlerville is decent, Kenwood ehh and actual GR is getting wild(ems worker as well). But still overall, best move I have ever made and for the most part it is a friendly and chill place. If you're a car lover like myself, you hit the jackpot.💯🤙🏼❤

I mean the streets was clean and the grass was so clean. Y'all made me wanna move there damn the power of tv. Im going to go and drive around to see if I see what y'all showed. What time of the day was it. I mean this video was awesome. Also you forgot to mention that we have 20 Monroe across from Van Andel, that we host the Auto Show, Boat Show, and R V Show. Also that one of the greatest boxers Floyd Mayweather was born and raised here. I'm just saying but thanks yall did a great job. Oh one more thing you forgot was look out mountain where you can see all of Grand Rapids

Grand Rapids is such a great city! There was so much important stuff packed into this video, but one thing was missed, which I think is worth mentioning. Grand Rapids has a large and vibrant mountain biking community. There are around 10 mountain bike trails just in the greater Grand Rapids area and working out from there, there are dozens of trails throughout lower Michigan.

The reason the riversides aren't more developed is that they flood every year. Even the paths that are already there are often under several feet of water in the spring. Recently it overflowed its banks and even flooded parts of downtown.

Way to go with staying local for the production. I mean, going all the way to FLORIDA waaaaaaay down south in Tampa Bay to have a ‘Come to my city’ video made for Grand Rapids, Michigan, by someone who probably never stepped foot in the city before harvesting all the footage and doing a voice over to make a video to sell visiting a place they never went to.

The market pictured is the Downtown Market (DTM) not Fulton Street Market. Both are noteworthy and should've made the cut. The street you drove down to the market is Ionia Ave as it passes Hearthside Park traveling south to the market. John Ball Zoo is west on Fulton Ave. Hope that clarification makes sense. Nice video essay of the city and surrounding areas.

GR was not dying in the early 2000s! The "reinvention " of GR certainly started LONG before 2010. It's been a long-term process for decades, building on citywide and metro-wide projects and programs, big and small, sponsored by governments, various organizations, and businesses. Another correction: Michigan State University has its medical college in downtown. To my knowledge, Grand Valley State doesn't have a medical school, anywhere.
