If this was in the 1980s and 1990s i guarantee my dad was driving one of those Grand Trunk trains. My dad worked at Grand Trunk railroad as an engineer from 1967 to 1998. He retired early. His name was Jim Gardiner and this brings back memories from my childhood with my dad. His routes were from Battle creek, Michigan to Chicago and Battle Creek, Michigan to Port Huron, Michigan. He passed away in 2017😢 Thanks for uploading this!

Nice video, brings back great memories of the Grand Trunk Western! My father was a long time engineer for the GTW in Chicago for many years. It was a very sad time when they closed the Elsdon Yard in the 80's and eventually CN did away with all of the GT system in the 90's.

In Pontiac MI there is a SD40P GTW that shunts cars around. Also theres one at the Jeep plant near flint that shunts auto-racks

This is a great tribute to the GTW railroad! I can escpecially relate to this video, considering that it gives me nostolgia of watching a Grand Trunk locomotive with some freight cars pass by towards where my grandparents live. It would be awesome to see a Detroit Toledo & Ireton diesel locomotive coming down the tracks in modern day.

Some beautiful videography. Wonderful documentation. Perhaps you can't take bad pictures of trains; they naturally compose themselves and the ambient lighting simply enhances the scenes. Naw! I give full credit to the pitcher-taker.

Thank you for this. I grew up with the Port Huron to Milwaukee Junction Detroit line. During the mid-70's GTW placed cars in Fraser, MI. Not now. The Depot is gone but not the 1965 RR Guide. I still have this. Many Fond memories that include your clip. GTW will be always my legacy RR. The Henry Ford Catenary towers are great as I still live this on Amtrak's NEC Catenary towers. So different here then opposed being back HOME.

Very good video! The picture composition, the use of the camera, steady without unnecessary zooming, the length and cutting of the scenes. many video makers can learn a lot from this!

good to see parts of the old DT&I line and Milwaukee jct. in there. I remember GTW storing shoreline and GTW 40 & 50ft boxcar at 8 mile on the port Huron line by the scrap yards there. forgot the name of the yard though.

Arches were from Henry Ford's plan to electrify the Detroit, Toledo and Ironton when he owned it. Arches built, wires never strung, idea abandoned.
@Landaux7 жыл бұрын
Michael Landry also looks like it was a double track at one point as well
@TucsonBillD5 жыл бұрын
Oh, the wires were strung, and the electrics did operate. It was powered from the Ford Rouge plant and when the DT&I started a heavy train, the assembly line there slowed down. When Henry Ford gave up gave up on running a railroad, the wires came down, and the electrics were scrapped. The line was sold to the Pennsylvania who continued to operate it until it was spun off. The DT&I attempted to remove the concrete spans, it was less than successful, so the spans were never removed... it was decided that there was no appreciable danger of the spans collapsing... and they still stand today. Some years ago, Trains Magazine ran an article on the Ford experiment with electric power.

Built one of those GP9R's for a Customer using a P2k phase 3 GP9. One of the best and oddest kitbashes I ever had to do. That cab was considerably difficult since it had to be longer than the standard GP9/7/18 cab. And a cannon & co 35 line cab wouldn't do it either. The short hood proved to be somewhat difficult but I think I could easily do another one now that I know the best way to do it. Does anyone know where to find decals for Tuscola and Saginaw bay?
