The Grande Dixence in the Val d'Hérens is the biggest gravity dam in the world. This massive dam in Switzerland is unrivalled with its height of 285 metres. The Grande Dixence, built from 1951-65, is a structure of incredible proportions. 200 metres thick at the base, 695 metres long and 285 metres high, six million cubic metres of concrete were needed to build it. The large reservoir holds 400 million cubic metres of water and collects the meltwater from 35 Valais glaciers, which is fed through 100 kilometres of tunnels.
The Grande Dixence can be visited and is the starting point for beautiful mountain hikes. A cable car runs from the car park and bus terminus up to the top of the Grande Dixence wall. The panoramic view of the Valais mountains and across the long lake is impressive.
Enjoy the beautiful views of Grande Dixence and Lac des Dix on a sunny day in 4K video resolution. Only video, music and nature sounds.
