I really like the idea of Garp being the one who started sword. Just because he's 'passive' in the series it doesn't mean he can't be acting in the shadows. He also hates the celestial dragons so it makes sense and it might make his relationship with Dragon more interesting as they'd share similar ideologies while acting from different factions

I do actually think that garp could be the one who founded SWORD. At some point I believe it was confirmed that the reason Garp isn’t an admiral is because he doesn’t want to be a direct subordinate of the world nobles. That fits in as well, considering Garp is pretty old and could easily have founded sword at any point in time throughout his career as a Marine.

My thoughts exactly! And yup it really was confirmed. Sengoku shared information about the God Valley incident where Garp went against his moral code to protect the Celestial dragons and their slaves alongside Gol D. Roger. Which brings another speculation that Ace and Dragon's moms may have been either a celestial dragon or a slave and that's why they joined forces to beat the Rocks crew. Not quite sure about the last bit tho but it does make sense. Hella hyped to know how things will pan out in the future coz damn Oda's a story telling beast.

While I don’t disagree with you, I feel like garp’s character, similar to luffy’s, is that he’s incredibly straightforward. While he may have the clout and means to pull it off and a lot of the individuals involved share a similar idea to garp, I just don’t see someone who is so direct in everything we’ve seen him do, building a covert unit.

I've always thought Sengoku and Garp created SWORD way back when they were still young but high enough up the ranks to know not everything the World Government orders is for justice. Rosinante was definitely a member and went undercover as one. Tsuru is also definitely a member, as is Kuzan. Law should know about the organization but I'm not sure he's a member. Isso, Smoker and Tashigi could be in it too. I would also like for Sentomaru to be a member, even though I don't think his uncle Borselino is. I'm also pretty sure they are in alliance with Vegapunk, but let's not get ahead of my self. I'm sure sensei will let us know due time. I'm always thankful for the wonderful videos! Keep up the good work!

Borsalino feels like the kind of guy who don't want to go out of his way to do things he doesn't need to. It's unlikely that he wants to be in sword. So, sentomaru, being his protege, shouldn't be in sword. However, the counterargument is that borsalino is just acting lazy and doing things slowly while coordinating sword operatives behind the scenes. Purpose of this is to shift away suspicion.

The moment it was revealed that X. Drake is an undercover marine and "Sword" is a thing, he skyrocketed to one of the characters I'm most interested about in the series. The whole concept is very much like the plot of the movie "Departed" which, by the way, is one of the best crime movies ever made.

Appreciate the shout man! 🤙 The key selling factor for me (besides the submarine and his name *of course*) is actually the Rocky Port Incident. The Drake connections are strong on their own, sure, but the fact that Law is directly tied to *both* Drake AND Koby is what sold everything for me. The spark was lit as far back as 903 trying to understand the relationship between Law and Koby. When Sword was revealed in 956, that was the missing piece for me.

I think Garp, is the founder of sword. based on his past with Roger and how they had to have teamed up to defeat the Rocks pirates he could have created the organization right after that. Also, Trafalgar law is a part of sword. My thought process comes from who in the hell told Trafalgar law to save Luffy at Marine Ford. When everything was all said and done Garp could have easily told you Trafalgar law to save Luffy at all costs.

Massive shot in the dark theory: What if Shanks is the leader of Sword? A few pieces of evidence that may explain this: First is Shanks’ acts leading up to this moment. He is like the arbiter of peace who always steps in to try and keep the peace. He requested Whitebeard to call Ace off the Blackbeard search, because he knew Blackbeard would win and ignite war between Whitebeard and the Marines. He stopped Kaido for making a beeline for Marineford, even though Kaido being at Marineford would have helped Whitebeard greatly. He stopped the battle of Marineford when things got out of hand and it looks like he’s taking measures against either Luffy or Blackbeard. It seems to me he’s acting in the world’s interests, which also line up with Sword’s motives. If X-Drake is a Marine disguising as a pirate, it shouldn’t be too far off to say Shanks could be too. Shanks become an Emperor to undermine the efforts of the other Emperors should they become problematic. How else could he have gotten an audience with the Five Elders who look like they don’t want to breathe the same air as pirates? How else could he have stopped the war in Marineford? While Whitebeard’s forces were defeated and Blackbeard had to retreat to start training the Gura Gura no Mi, the Marines could have fought Shanks, but didn’t. It’s interesting you mentioning Fujitora being the leader because he has a sword. But then again, who also uses a sword in combat and is touted as being Mihawk’s rival in swordplay? Shanks. Bingo! It would make sense as to why Shanks would invite Coby to the Sword ranks: he proved his worth by standing against a very pissed off Admiral, proving his sense of justice, which Shanks himself witnessed. It would also explain why the Marines haven’t burned Luffy’s village to the ground after Shanks visited for an extended period of time or killed Makino’s child in fear it might be Shanks’ child. It wouldn’t be too hard for people to see Shanks visit and report it to the Marines. They haven’t attacked because Shanks isn’t a pirate. Of course, all these reasons might just be pure fluff and Shanks might just be a pirate with an unwavering sense of justice. Again, it’s a shot in the dark.

I still believe, that Garp is the founder of "Sword". You not believing it, because of Garp's character, makes it an even stronger point, since nobody would imagine him organizing an undercover branch, which undermines the World Government and the Marines form the inside. The reason, why i am strongly believe it, has to do with Garp's non-action against the crimes of the World Government. I can't believe, that he just did NOTHING. He should have a moral compass closer to Luffy or his son Dragon. Him founding "Sword" and trying to save people indirectly or in secret would be a great redemption of his association with the world gouverment and the Marines . Maybe he believed, he could save the Marines from within, changing their path by putting people in power, which are better persons. "Sword" being his project and and it puts people closer to power, which one day will change the Marines for the better. It would be his inherited will, which he wanted to give to Luffy and Ace, but is finally adopted by Coby (who will become leader of the Marines, after there revolt against the World Government).

Shanks is the leader of sword. He literally stops wars and has meetings with the world leaders. He also has no violent meetings with whitebeard and stops kaido from going to marine Ford. He’s actively and effectively playing both sides.

I definitely think it’s Sengoku. I feel like Corazon being undercover for the Doffy’s crew was a hint at this undercover division. Sengoku is the only one who knows about Corazon so.

I cant really see Law wanting to be a part of the marines after everything that happened in Flevance. I think Corazon and maybe Smoker are the only marines he's ever liked. Vergo was also an undercover marine that Law knew. Though the connections between Law and Drake are interesting

As soon as you mentioned Garp, it made total sense. He never accepted a promotion to Admiral because he would have to directly protect the Tenryuubito, which goes against his morals. He always wanted his progeny to join the Marines (presumably to join Sword) but Dragon didn’t think this method was efficient enough and thus his quest for a global revolution.

I'm surprised there wasn't more said about Sakazuki. He has a sword tattoo on him and I think it was VERY out of character and odd of him to tell the elder stars that what kuzan was doing with blackbeard was none of their business. Also he has been known to use sneaky strategies like getting one of whitebeards sons to stab him mid war. My money is on akainu.

Garp being in SWORD (or even the founder) would make sense for many reasons. One of which - a rather small one, but seemingly interesting - is that COBY is actually a member. Not to dismiss Coby in any way, but he hasn't been a Marine for terribly long and he doesn't have that high of a rank to be widely known and acknowledged by many. And yet he was trusted enough to become a part of this super secret organization, so whoever gave him the invitation must have had a lot of trust in him and knew about his sense of justice. Therefore, someone close to him...? Garp as his mentor seems like the perfect candidate.
