It's not even just that, but about the passage of time. Off screening events that we come back to help sell the idea that the world is always moving. It's helps sell and make the passage of time believable. And this allows us to come to a proper conclusion of events using our deductive reasoning skills. Oda definitely respects the intelligence of the reader to not have to always show everything all the time! When we left egghead Robin was given information about a secret unused lab, so she goes there to investigate and finds Stella locked up, York with a gun and Shaka dead. Robin is smart and good at reasoning so she puts two and two together and immediately subdues York without warning. Frees Stella and he regains control of the seraphim and they take York up to the group, free Usopp and Franky and inform everyone of what is happening! Bonney finishes her memory jumping and reconvenes. To show how strong the seraphim are meant to be, are not fully defeated but instead ordered by Stella to stop right as the battle is heating up! Save the seraphim further for another day! Oda thank you for providing the pieces to this event and allowing us to put them together with the information we have been given! Bam easy!

The severity of the earthquake was the greatest one in recorded history which makes me believe the previous one had to be during the Void Century (where history and records were erased) in order for the Enies Lobby hole to exist.

The Five Elders are a different breed compared to the bubble headed World Nobles like Charloss. It's Jay Garcia's business to know what his subordinates and what the important figures of the world are doing. He helps ensure the status quo of the world is maintained, allowing nobles like Charloss to live as they do. I'm a firm believer that it is a combination of their extraordinary leadership skills AND their combat strength that allows them to occupy the positions of the Five Elders. I would guess that all the Five Elders are extremely proficient with Haki and are comparable to admirals in strength.

@@stormstrider1990 When the flashback with Dragon meeting Vegapunk dropped, I arrived at the conclusion that there are certain Marines, mainly Garp and Sakazuki, who see the World Government as an institution as necessary to protect the world from pirates, but believe the Celestial Dragons undermine that mission and would like nothing more than to see them deposed, and so work toward that end as Marines. Although the Five Elders would probably have had to display their strength to Sakazuki, or really to any new Admiral, so they don’t get any ideas of rebellion, or else the Room of Authority would have been flooded with magma the second he found out about Doflamingo’s deception. Hell, the Marine reporting Doflamingo’s defeat probably saved Sakazuki’s life without realizing it, because the man was about to SNAP!!!

They always just have things under control. The crews are always so collected and ready for the next thing. Gotta admit, the devastation from the Mother Frame/Flame is wild when you think about it. Imagine having multiple weapons of that caliber in the past, and then look at the world of One Piece. It honestly feels fitting as well. Most of the time during the series we stay focused on the straw hats for the duration of an arc, then when the arc is over and the straw hats aren't doing anything important Oda zooms the camera out and shows us that the world kept turning while we where focused on the straw hats and we get updates on all the crazy things that happened in the world while we weren't looking. This time, however, Oda cut away to the rest of the world in the middle of the arc and showed us everything that was going on outside of Egghead, so it only makes sense that the world would keep turning like it normally does. Except that this time it was the straw hats themselves that where off screen in stead of the rest of the world.

In most anime it tends to feel like nothing happens in the world unless it specifically involves the main character. And like theres nothing necessarily wrong with that, I just really like how Luffy doesn't need to be looking at something for something huge to happen in the world.

One thing about Saturn’s comments about Bonney: I think we’ll want to wait for the official translation to confirm this, but he said they should leave her be because she’s “just a little girl.” There’s been a theory going around for a bit now that we get to see more of her behavior that Bonney may actually be just a child, using her devil fruit to appear as an adult. If what Saturn said is to be believed, that theory may have just gained some very solid ground.

Seeing Doberman among the Vice Admirals is a nice throw-back to both Enies Lobby AND Marineford, as he was present at both. In fact, in case anyone forgot, he was the one who wanted the Marines to ignore the wounded and continue pursuing the escaping Whitebeard Pirates and their allies, not to mention he wanted to showcase the Marine's victory by propping up Whitebeard and Ace's heads for the world to see. He's basically Sakazuki without the magma powers. As for the story itself, I have a feeling that the way things are going, the Straw Hat Pirates are going to take on the World Government first, then when (or if? who am I kidding) Imu and the Five Elders are overthrown, Blackbeard will step in to try and, well, take over the world, thus leading to a final confrontation with Luffy and Blackbeard. This is mostly just a gut feeling, though, and I only see this because of the whole York situation, as well as seeing the side effects of using the Mother Flame. Part of me tells me Luffy wouldn't stand for this, but also is Luffy altruistic enough to be invested by the state of the entire world? Maybe once he finds out the WG is actively hunting Vivi he'll do something about it... Even though we don't necessarily "need" to see how York was "taken down", there are still some things that aren't accounted for at the end of the chapter, like what happened to the Seraphim and the other Vegapunk Satellites, and where Stussy and Kaku are. I would honestly prefer a full flashback, but I guess I can deal with characters just alluding to what happened... Can't help but feel kind of robbed of pay-off from everything set up beforehand if Oda does do that, though.

I just saw Syv pointing out in his video that it was said that there hadn't been an earthquake of this of this magnitude in recorded history (so 38 years ago is a wee bit too recent), and that Oimo and Kashii were stationed at Enies Lobby 52 years ago. I'd like to add that York's conversation with the elders makes it seem that this was the first ever use of the Mother Flame. The similarities are hard to ignore, though. So in the light of the above it seems like Enies Lobby came to be during the Void Century, which is backed up by the fact that the Mother Flame is implied to be an imitation Ancient Weapon.

That last panel where the Strawhats are vibing. We are expecting to see some darkest hour stuff, but the reveal of how not only are they just chilling they got things pretty much wrapped up. They are a true Yonko crew. Luffy and his pirates are beasts and need to be seen as such. Kidd and Law were tough but Luffy was fighting a Yonko on his own while his wings were handling the commanders back on Wano. Egghead island? It’s just a standard adventure for them and they got that song and dance down pact.

I just love how the Straw Hats seemed like they were in trouble when last we saw them, and now they're just casually clowning on the "mastermind" who seemingly had them on the backfoot. This arc is really making them feel like a top tier pirate crew and I am all for it. I do hope we at least get a brief flashback connecting where they were with where they are. Are the Seraphim defeated, or did the Stella somehow get control of them? Are all the Satellites other than York destroyed, or did some of them survive? Did Lucci try to fight Luffy again and just get thrashed a second time? Where are Robin and Kaku right now?

Either way, I doubt the Straw Hats are playing along with the Marines’ siege game. They have a clear hostage in York, the Five Elders have a clear interest in her (still no chance they actually declare her a Celestial Dragon, by the way. That’s just a convenient carrot as long as she gives them what they want), so there’s their exit strategy all squared away. Kizaru is definitely set up to go down, but Saturn is an entirely different story.

I’d like to point out that basically every palace/castle in OP is on some kind of raised plateau. I know alabasta is a pretty standard royal palace placement, but it is on the top of a high staircase. Then we have drum island, wano, and dressrosa all fit the pattern of palaces (or entire countries) designed to withstand flooding.

I would consider Monkey D. Garp at this moment to be both alive and dead, because of the note of Missing in Action with the last chapter showing him on the ground very bloody. Both Garp and Sengoku are also keeping the marines afloat in terms of morale, same as Halo’s Spartan IIs and the Spartans were never allowed to be listed as KIA for that reason.

Makino is my favorite secondary character in One Piece. She is so wholesome, and it is so great to see her again! If you look back at the chapter, St Jay Garcia was also shocked by the Luffy holding York hostage. That means he would also need to be listening into the call. It is very likely that Kizaru was next to him and thus had permission to intercept the call.

I doubt that enies lobby is god valley. The world government did not have the motherflame at that time. Instead it's far more likely of it being a product of the war during the void century where the ancient people had the now confirmed nuclear technology (the motherflame is some kind of fusion based weapon). This means a few things 1) Enies lobby was something that was important during the void century 2) Imu knew what the weapon would do if it was functional, meaning that the test fire was meant as a means to determine if this weapon was equal to that from the void century. 3) The motherflame might be a modern version of Uranus 4) this weapon might have been fired far more than one time. Resulting in the geography of the one piece world (a flooded planet with a few remaining islands, a whacky sea and islands that seemingly break physics and phenomena like the knockup stream) We may have not fully realized it yet but this might be one of the most important chapters in terms of deep lore.

I like how we've seen the capabilities of the seraphim and how feared they're supposed to be, then have the strawhat crew with minimal injuries holding York captive like it's just another Tuesday. I thought for sure they would be steeped in fighting and have to fight on two fronts. I am worried about all of the other Vegapunks, since it seems like Shaka & Pythagoras are most definitely dead...being shot and crush respectively but Lilith was turned to stone and Edison was attacked, but no explosions like Pythagoras then there's York...I doubt she is actually gonna be killed, since only Vegapunk, Bonney or Lucci would so...but Lucci is the most likely one to kill her, but it feels like they'll keep her alive or reveal that none of the other punks are dead either

Something I realized, isn’t Luffy now able to nullify the logia effect when touching an enemy while being in Gear 5. He is able to change the properties of anything into rubber like Kaido, so why not changing the properties of a logia user in rubber. So the question would be, to which point can he change the properties. Will attacks that has been created by the fruit User also have the rubber properties. Does that mean they cause no harm or are they not even able to produce logia techniques anymore while being effected of „rubber effect“.

I LOVED that they straight up just cut to Egg Head with the entire problem dealt with, that last panel might just be one of the most satisfying in the whole manga to me. I guess it just gives off this absolutely pride and confidence that you didn't even need to see their struggle, they just dealt with everything without any major issues, because they're that good at what they do. I think this solution, in a way, gives a little validation to them being a Yonko crew now. It's like how in the entire arc, there was never any reason to actually worry about the Straw Hats all that much, we were just worried for the Vegapunks. We know how awesome the Straw Hats are, so it just feels right for them to not really have any real stakes unless against something TRULY serious, like the Gorousei and Admirals.

Although things did seem quite perilous York was playing a losing game. When you think about it besides Usopp, Franky, and Lilith being petrified by surprise the only forces York had to combat the SH's were just the Seraphim. And if each strong fighter could occupy them that would leave her to be easily subdued by the rest as she's no fighter herself.

I don't think the Morher Flame was used on the hole at enies lobby. Just a few chapters ago, the elders were ordered to test the Mother Flame. So the Mother Flame couldn't have been used at Enies Lobby. But it could have been something else, that isn't working anymore, so Vegapunk(york) recreated it. I think York tried to recreate one of the Ancient Weapons that isn't around anymore. Also with this flooding how is Water 7? Get flooding a lot, but they prepare for it.

Posted a comment right before seeing this. It could be the mother flame but what York is making is the fuel to run it. Dr. V did say the ancients had a super efficient fuel or something to that affect that was lost to history. The test could be a test to see if the "new" fuel worked.
