One thing I noticed about Dragon is that he always looks like he’s looking at something far away that he wants to tear apart. It’s not rage, but a concentrated, laser focused look of anger. I know his goal is to take down the government, but I appreciate how Oda portrays the conviction on Dragon’s face.

Eh, Garp didn't fail, and he didn't raise enemies. He raised strong men with strong conviction. That's exactly who Garp was himself. He tried to change it from the inside. Dragon saw he'd have to change it from the outside. Kuzon was unsure which path was best till it was decided for him. Lastly Luffy and Ace chose to disregard it. (It being the ways of the one piece world). Every one of Garp's successors seems to have embodied part of Garp's own view on world events. He could change it, then after God valley, there was no changing it from within. Next came Kuzon and his icy personality, much like Garp's would have been when he grew cold. Ace and Luffy represent a child like hope Garp probably experienced while raising them leading them to chase dreams as Garp began to dream of change from within once more leading to Koby and Helmeppo. His character arc

One small detail that stood out to me is how the Sorbet soldiers told Kuma it would be treason to attack them... right after the king shrunk the kingdom so that Kuma was no longer actually a part of it. Even though they stripped away their citizenship, they still think the Southerners serve and belong to them.

Agreed. Many claim some elements of same face or body syndrome for ladies and such, but it has reminded me that it is very true how unique his designs are. I'm only reminded every now and then of the new rounds of merchandise that come out for the series and go "Huh, these designs really do still stick in my mind.". I find them more striking and varied than most other series, and it surprises me sometimes.

Kuma’s flashback seems to be a constant story of self sacrifice and silent burdening. First on God Valley he willing let himself take the hits to enact the plan and now with the church scene in this chapter. We have seen Bonney has some sort of light protection from the world government. I think that kumas transformation will be tied with giving Bonney some form of government protection. it will fit with the theme of this flashback of silent burdening of troubles

I think the experiments on his body were probably part of the deal to keep Ginny alive initially, as well as becoming a warlord. But after he helped the Straw Hats at Shabody, the Gorosei told him he can either give up his free will or Ginny dies. But since Vegapunk was in charge of the operation, I think he built in some subroutines that would activate under certain conditions. Most likely one command was triggered by the Marines invading Egghead, and the other was triggered directly after the operation, allowing Kuma to defend the Sunny.

Thinking about it now. Having learned of the existence of sword, it's quite possible. Garp was trying to get as many people loyal to him as possible into the Marines and promoted into high positions so that they can actually effectively change the Marines from within and garp may actually have been successful. Eventually if only his son and grandsons didn't all run out on him in abandoned his plan, which he probably never told them. Imagine dragon ace and Luffy. All admirals and garp is in charge of them and being who they are, they have undoubtedly inspired the loyalty of almost everyone under them

Kizaru is currently 58 and Dragon is 55.If Dragon was indeed a Marine as everyone thought , then he definitely knew Kizaru very well.Kizaru likely knows Koala since it was thanks to his interference in the Koala incident that the charges pressed at the Sun Pirates were removed.What's more Jinbei never exchanged fists with Kizaru in Marineford despite both being at opposite sides.Probably because both of them respect each other that much. Now in Egghead Jinbei also doesn't engage in the fight.Kizaru also says he knows Bonney very well in the current arc and that he doesn't want to hurt the people he loves.Vegapunk knows her too.Kizaru was also part of a special Marine task force with Kuma and Sentomaru that was sent to destroy the Straw Hats in Sabaody.Kizaru had too many chances to just end Luffy's life both in Sabaody and in Marineford but never went for the kill (probably because knowing Luffy's family he understood he's a nice guy and all but yeah Ace should die so he would just repel Luffy every time he got close to the scaffold).Furthermore , in Sabaody after he , Kuma , Sentomaru and Rayleigh gathered around Luffy , Kizaru didn't care about Luffy , Kizaru questioned Kuma's actions and since he was a pirate annihilating crews day after day according to orders by the World Government Kizaru questioned his disobedience and defiance of his purpose.Everyone keep saying Kizaru is a villain , Oda keeps on bringing more and more examples of people being close to him and liking him very much.Saturn clearly wants Kizaru away from all of those ties to ensure he'll have a manageable weapon in the Final War , like Kuma.But yeah , if you're a Marine the fandom will hate you because Ace died...

The small bubble that Zoro got as a small taste was enough to make Zoro "scream bloody murder" and that bubble was way smaller than the individual bubbles that got pushed out of the elderly people. This chapter was really short but it was so dense that I really don't mind. Ginny really feels like a mix of Nami and Luffy. I love that Kuma is a pastor and that he seems to be rising up to be king through religious leadership. But he actually has good intentions. One of my favorite things about One Piece and Oda's writing is how big moments will be re-contextualized later on to make them more impactful. Kuma taking that bubble of pain every week re-contextualizes Thriller Bark in such a heartbreaking way. This backstory is quickly making Kuma one of my favorite characters. I never noticed this before but the pattern that would be branded or tattooed on Dragon's face is the same pattern as on his leg band. The translation I read said that Dragon "Spent time with the Navy" not that he was in the Navy. That could apply to him even if he wasn't _in_ the Navy because Garp is his dad. I guess we will have to wait for the official. I feel like this chapter basically confirmed my theory that Ginny is probably dead and Bonney is a clone of Ginny that Kuma had made and the price was being turned into the Pacifista. That's why Vegapunk calls her a girl because while she may be biologically 24, Bonney may have accelerated aging and has only been alive for like 5-10 years.

I think that's part of Kuma's ultimate test of somebody. Bad or evil characters will rarely ever take on somebody else's pain as their own in order to help them. And especially not willingly. So anybody who would be willing to do so is obviously a pretty good person. And with that one simple test kuma can fully test what somebody's made of and who they are

Theory. Kuma may die and then someone takes the paw paw fruit. Some have theorized Vivi. If she has it, she herself has felt such pain for her people. A final battle could be vivi empathizing the pain of centuries into a pain bubble and giving it back to Imu. I think back to when nami took some spikes to the foot and said it's nothing compared to the pain vivi feels for her country

Normally I wouldn't think that Bonny's physical size would matter all that much, since Big Mom can have normal sized children like Pudding. With all the emphasis placed on Buccaneer blood in these chapters and that Ginny has all the death flags, that Bonny may not be Kuma's biological child.

I've been saying for a while Sakazuki and Dragon served in the Marines together, but I've also pointed out that Sakazuki has very similar mannerisms and a similar stance to Garp at times. We've also seen Garp wear Hawaiian shirts like Sakazuki, in the Ace/Sabo/Luffy post Marineford arc for example. So my bigger theory is that Garp and Sakazuki were either in a mentor/mentee type relationship like Kuzan and Koby later training with Garp, or Garp had the dog as his ships figurehead because he was quite the dawg himself and had kids all over the world Sakazuki and Dragon being just 2 of them(Portgas D Rouge being another because Rogers last conversation with Garp before he was executed really felt like Roger was trying to tell Garp he had a family type obligation to protect Ace, and what better reason for Garp to chase down Roger than Roger banging his daughter?) I do hope Oda is OK, but I have a feeling that it's a short chapter because Oda wants to drop a storybomb in a longer chapter next. It seems like we still have a decent amount of Kuma's story to pass through, and with this much emotion it can't end well for Kuma. Will Dragon or Ivankov watch their old friend fall on Egghead is a great next question?

For Dragon's face tattoos, I think there's two good candidates of the events we know about. Dragon got his tattoo somewhere between 14 to 22 years ago. The most likely spot is 15 years ago when Fisher Tiger raided Mariejois and freed the slaves. It's possible that Dragon got his own tattoo as "solidarity" or something with all the freed slaves who were still carrying around their own brands from the Celestial Dragons. The second and more interesting option to me is 20 years ago, during the Oykot Kingdom battle where Bellemere rescured Nami and Nojiko. Finally giving us some backstory about Nami's homeland would be nice after all this time. And honestly, I find Kuma's line about the pain bubbles needing to be re-absorbed or they'll "fester" and continue to hurt people interesting. I think that MIGHT be foreshadowing something. Especially since it feels like it continues a line of thought started with Tot Musica in Film Red.

Bonney and Ginny are the same person. Kuma wiped her memory to protect her. She currently behaves as a child because of the amount of memories taken from her. With her fruit they (Not sure who are "they", maybe the revolutionaries? maybe her fruit was in one of the chests at god valley) gave her another "life". Bonney does not have ANY of the crazy physical features of Kuma. This, to me, indicates that she is not her biological daughter.

But I agree, that's the main issue with "my" theory, which is a good counterpoint also against the "clone" hypothesis, to a lesser extent (clones might differ from one another due to epigenetic changes, but theoretically it also depends on the cells used to clone another individual).

The same thought had just crossed my mind. If she had her memories erased by Kuma, (which we know is possible due to his own memory thing), and got her devil fruit which returned her to a child. Would explain why the WG doesn't seem too fussed that Bonney isn't a slave despite having Buccaneer blood, why Oda has been so coy about her age, as well as having Kuma keep his vow from this chapter. Though it probably is that she simply is his daughter and having her captured changed his mind on the whole getting married thing.

Also, just checked on Oda's 'estimation' of her age, it was 22 (pre-timeskip, 24 now). We know that she was captured 14 years ago. This would mean that either Bonney is younger than 14 or she isn't who she thinks she is. The is one slight problem though, she definitely thinks of Kuma as 'Dad' at least once since retrieving his memories and I would assume that his memories would contain the fact that she was Ginny, since we are seeing his memories now which seem to be through her.
