If anything in a What If timeline, she'd end up working with Captain Smoker and his second in command Tashigi, or even Vice-Admiral Garp who sometimes visit East Blue at his leisure.

Strong World is my favorite film from OP, mostly because of the setting and the fact that we get so much lore from Shiki, and everyone who knew him (and episode/chapter 0). Having Nami at the center is fun too, since I love her, but now I'm wondering how much Oda had planned for a film about her.

Huh, Nami's parents being the people who burnt down the kingdom and killed Nojiko's parents and everyone else would've been the exact type of gut punch revelation that I think Oda tries to avoid. I could sort of see that kind of 'in hindsight' twist burying the characters like he said it would because it wouldn't really be addressable in Oda style. They're all on the Grandline, Nojiko's all the way back in East Blue... Unless they took a trip back over there then it would just be something that Nami would have festering inside her likely without any firm conclusion by the end of the movie. And since Shiki didn't initially have the Float-Float Fruit in the first place I don't think 'return to east blue' was in the script there either.

I can understand how Nami getting Emotionally Traumatizing Backstory The Second wouldn't be worth it. Especially if it ended up undermining her talents by pinning them on lineage. I think that's at least part of what Oda was reffering to with characters being crushed by the story. Strong World did do a good job cementing that what Nami does is insanely impressive and goes beyond just having studied a lot.

If I had to speculate, I'd say that maybe Oda planned to make Shiki Nami's father, and her mother left Shiki while she was pregnant with Nami because of some scheme she discovered that Shiki had cooked up using her and/or Nami due to some connection they (or their bloodline) had to this crystal ship. She tried to hide from Shiki in the East Blue, but Shiki pursued her, killed her when he found her in the Oykot Kingdom, but caused a lot of collateral damage in the process. Maybe since this was arlund the time of Roger's execution, you can maybe have Shanks there at the time, and have the two clash in addition having a lot marines being massacred in the crossfire. Which cpuld explain Bellamare's losing her will to live as a marine and pursue justice, as she would have just seen two of the strongest pirates in the world wipe our a town just from fighting one another. Like, imagine how an average marine would feel if they'd personally witnessed the fight betwen Luffy and Kaido. Maybe Nojiko would be dragged back into the story and this knowledge that Nami's birth family were the reason Nojiko's birth family died would have created a rift between them in the story (as Nojiko is actually old enough that she might remember her original parents and actually still love them and mourn their loss), and this would lead to Nami being put in an even more hopeless and depressing position than she was in Strong World, as she would now believe her sister hates her, or if Nojiko isn't there, Nami would at least believe that Nojiko has reason to hate her. She would know that the blood of one of the world's worst pirates runs through her, which would also mess with her head because of her initial hatred of pirates. And she would believe that the only way she can protect her friends is to abandon them and go along with whatever Shiki wants.

I said that recently in the video about the Queen-Franky theory and I'll repeat it here: Oda wants to write and draw the strawhat's backstories more than any of us want to see them. But there's no space left. Again we go to the 5 years to end of series question. One Piece's plot development went out of control, Oda wanted to put a lot more of history in the manga, but won't do it. He wants to finish it already, he don't want to spend his entire life working in the same manga, so he is right now going foward to the end, anything that's not strictly necessary for completing the plot won't fit the manga anymore. But One Piece is not going to end with the end of the manga. Several spinoffs will keep coming after the last chapter. Movies, TV speciais, new animated series and even, why not, more manga, using the characters, but not made by Oda. In this One Piece extended universe we'll finally see the stories Oda wanted to tell in the manga but couldn't, what includes strawhat's untold backstories.

What if koala is Nami’s older sister cause what if after koala was taken by the celestial dragons in the grand line after a couple years her parents had another baby. So since she was such a good slave, and remember she was obedient till fisher tiger save her. The celestial dragons decided to capture her sibling, but for research purposes like how Saturn was doing research on Bonnie‘s mom. But someone with Van Augur devil power before him saved baby Nami then teleported to island to island all the way from The Grand Line to the east blue. Since nami was a baby she must experienced different types of weather, phenomenon from each island, adapting to each different climate, which is why she is so in tuned with the weather.

I do kind of feel robbed of not knowing Nami's full story but oh well. I'm a little shocked to hear Strong World isn't well loved as it was my favorite One Piece film by far until Red came out and blew everything else away. Z, Gold and Stampede are all fine but Strong World just felt like a proper One Piece story because Oda wrote it. I struggle to see anything topping Red at this point though; holy shit was Uta's story so good.

Unless it’s in the manga and has relevance to the story at that moment, I honestly don’t want to know her past or who her real parents are. There should be some mystery to the characters. We don’t want a Star Wars situation where everyone is somehow connected to each other or to some crazy legendary pirate crew. It would make the world of One Piece seem smaller. He might someday give her backstory in an SBS like he did for Zoro and that would be good enough for me.

Chopper is a freakin raindeer and his family is animals. No special blood related member. Another one is Brook. No special blood relation to other people. Your Argument is nonchalant. And also it doesn't really matter. Nami got abandoned when she was a baby. Baby don't remember anything. Her whole life the only people she know is Belle and Nojiko. If Nami learned about her past and real biological parents it wouldn't even matter. She don't know them or remember them at all. So why would it matter? Sanji story is different because Sanji grew up and lived with his siblings and parents meanwhile Nami is a literal infant who doesn't know and doesn't care whatever it is going on around her. It's a good thing it didn't happen to be honest.

I feel like oda makes these absolutely horrific backstories for his female characters but leaves it up to air, which I get due to oda not wanting to bring up anyone’s trauma/ not wanting to use real illnesses or anything. Like Boa has debatably one of the worst childhoods we know of in the series but a lot of it is left to interpretation. But he doesn’t seem to hold back with his male characters and I feel like that’s why law is is successful as a character, heart wrenching fully fleshed out no need to infer anything backstory. Bonney also has such a sad past but i personally felt like Bonny’s story was concocted to build off of kuma’s story

There was a time when I thought that Oda needed to answer every open question and reveal every secret of One Piece by the end of the story. But when it comes to the blank spots in the backstories of some straw hats, I don't believe this is necessary anymore, or even desirable. We are too far into the plot now and too close to the end. Every additional exposition to the straw hats, and their backstories, could lead to derailing. If not absolutely essential to the completion of their individual character arcs or the overall story, it is probably better left out. Oda heavily implied e.g., that there is more to Brook's backstory. We know there was a time before the Rumba pirates, he somehow knows about the Vinsmokes etc. But is this important for his arc or the overall story? Hard to tell, likely not. Still, the vast lore of One Piece is enough for some world-expanding content that could be released after the fact. If Oda still has the stamina and desire to publish, maybe we could have some sort of prequel stories, after the end of One Piece, exploring these open questions. No for pressure for weakly Jump chapters, no whole new manga series. Just additional stories, like Ace's adventures, Brook's backstory, Nami's parents, Robin's father or something with her mother Olvia. There are endless possibilities for additional stories and I believe it fits One Piece better than a sequel.

Why we are need to tragic back stories -_- And highly nepotic relationships of one piece. Why a completely normal person experience/see those atrocities and decide to fight for the sake of humanity. This nature of One Piece bothers me a lot. It consistently dictates blood factor - haki and family ties. Koby inspires me a lot and even in his case he is lucky because saved and inspired by luffy and trained by luffy's grandfather. Without their support/will he can't be an important - strong person. I am ideologically opposed to this recurring main idea that "you have to be related to important bloodlines or persons in order to climb. Or you should inherit will of those people in order to be an important person." Also i really hate momonosuke. Every one tried and pushed so hard for that baby and then this child have some absurd power. That framing of fate also always works for that people. Even rebel leader koza was vivi's childhood friend and leader of their friend group. It feels sooo "hierarchical". And that "fate" part a little disturbing. I doubt that the world Luffy represents at the end of One Piece is a "freedom"-oriented but dystopian world at the end but represented as utopia or how things should work. Hayao Miyazaki's "The Boy and the Heron" also represented similar kind of freedom in the ending. I attribute this to the spirit of the times. Similar or supporting themes are evident in much recent media. Mostly it depends on story-world building habits because it's easier to create tensions and emotions from. But it should not be forgotten that these stories are modern mythologies and shape people's worldviews. Like marvel. Sometimes we witness discussions on Twitter about current political issues on One Piece (Robin, WG, pirates, Pell etc.) It can be quickly pulled to different locations. We can also think that the writers are under this pressure when stakes are high ( huge franchise). It also opposite of "no one to someone " shounen style that readers relate themselves. Rather it says " you need to inherit something and then work hard to activate that." -_- Still i support Koby. I hope Koby beat luffy and all royal supreme someones.

My headcanon of Nami's origin is she is from an island with people known to be able to predict the weather so well they where called witches. Said people where targeted directly by the World Goverment because of this ability, or even got attacked by the Celestial Dragons during the human hunting they do every few years to get new slaves. Now then, I think the real reason why Oda didn't explored Nami's past yet is because he wasn't confident enough, and he wants to write a backstory good enough to really impact the fans. I mean you get more hype when you wait 20 years to get the answer rather than be handed just at the start of the story, right?

Chances are Nami doesn't even have any backstory and is just one of the many war orphans caused by the World Government and pirates. I appreciate that we have Nami as the only 100% NORMAL character without any crazy backstory or connections to some big name

Sanji’s father is Judge, a former member of MADS, because of the recent vivre cards it’s strongly believed Franky’s father is Queen, another former member of MADS, so to continue this trend of straw hat’s being the secret offspring of former MADs members, what if Nami is secretly the daughter of Caesar, if at the very least it would be a hilarious piece of irony considering Nami’s thoughts on him.
