I hope you enjoyed the video! It was a very interesting meeting and even if Luna wasn't exactly best friends with her grandkittens right now, I'm sure she will be soon! About 8 months ago, Luna was a mother in this same room and kitten nest and big sister Freya got to meet her siblings in the same way. Take a look at that video to see how it compares to this meeting: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fJzMdYyKgpqlhac

Freya clearly trusts Luna incredibly. Walked away from the door and let her come in and laid down while Luna started investigating her kittens, and wasn't right there between them. She wasn't inattentive either, but you can tell she wasn't concerned.

Even with all the hissing, the fact that freya runs away/turns her back means that she 100% knows her mom isn’t a threat to her kittens.
@Larzang11 ай бұрын
Yeah, the hiss may seem a little out of place. Almost as if Luna had said something off-handed to Freya that she then took minor bit of exception or offense to. But then again, considering how complicated cat language can actually be, and how I've at least observed daughters often behaving with their mothers? It's not all that surprising, to be fair.

“Hierarchy, also know as pecking order” exists in all pack animal settings. She’s is seen as the matriarch in this pack. She can be as grumpy as she wants and her daughter “the kittens mom” will accept this.
@ThatFreakWhoHauntsU8 ай бұрын
@@mediumdoubledouble9012 True. But probably not at the expense of their safety. I can’t imagine she wouldn’t at least keep her eyes on them at all times if she really thought the matriarch would do something to hurt them.

I'm fascinated by cat behaviour, not being familiar with them (only speak dog). When Freya first saw her young siblings, Luna seemed to be reassuring her, whereas Freya just let Grumpy Granny get on with it, and the kittens seemed unconcerned by the hissing stranger. And my goodness, haven't they grown. I give Ada a few more days before she's out of the nest. Thank you for this intriguing update.

Thank you! My wife and I love your videos. We’ve been watching since before Freya was born. It is so sweet to see Luna meeting her grandkittens. I’m not an expert, and it’s probably obvious, but Luna may be responding to the new smells, both from Freya and the babies. It might help to bring a blanket from the kitten nest (box) to share with Luna and the other cats outside the door, so they have an easy way to adjust to the new scents.
@Maine_Coon_Kittens11 ай бұрын

that's so interesting! I would love to hear the comment of a cat behaviouralist on Luna's and Freya's reactions! Freya seemed more relaxed when she met Luna's new litter (with only a couple of hisses) Well, I assume that most animals don't have the concept of "grandmother" so for Luna those are basically random kittens to teach the good manners to. Also we know that Luna likes her own space so she might get defensive when it's too much. And Luna had problems with Buster when she had her own kittens so she might be quite protective.

This was something I noticed watching through videos of the previous litter, how the plexi walls shift around depending on the stage of development of the kittens. Right now they seem to be mostly for keeping mom from deciding she’d rather hide the babies under the bed instead of in the nest box. As the kittens get closer to climbing out of the box, the walls are rearranged as an outer barrier, giving them a playpen. Then, when they’re allowed freer range of the room, they go back to keeping the babies from going places that are difficult to extract them from, and the extra barrier to keep them from darting out of the room. That door barrier also allows them to see and adapt to the presence of Buster or other more intimidating housemates, and vice versa, while being protected from an unexpected bad reaction. There’s clearly a lot of thought regarding safety, health, and comfort going on in this breeder home, and I will always be happy to see that.

I love this video!! It seems like Luna is tip toeing and is in slow motion along with her daughter Freya. This is purely natural for a new mother to make sure her kittens are ok. After Luna saw the kittens she is probably thinking "my daughter did not give birth to kittens from Uncle Buster, Please tell me i am wrong😮". Luna is definitely "trailing". Picking up on every scent. They are so so smart. These kitties are beautiful. And they seem to not be as wobbly as a few days ago. Yes, i remember Freya coming into the room and meeting her new siblings. Freya was very easy. What a lovely meeting. Luna has probably went and gave Buster a come to Jesus meeting😂

Some very interesting moments there, with a bit of hissing, raised paws. Luna not that interested in a being a grandmother (yet). And Freya setting some limits. One day later, an increase in chillness, but really, Luna? Hissing at the kittens? Grandmothers are supposed to be doting and giving the mums a break! Very interesting dynamic here. Any veterinarians or pet psychologists in the house? Animals are very instinctual so I would wager Luna was jealous of the kittens. As painful as kitten-birth appears, the instinct is there and female cats desire this. I believe she wants her own litter. With that said, it's good for dear, sweet Luna to rest up some.

@@Maine_Coon_Kittens Could well be. Animals are far more complex that humans usually give them credit for. I wish I could figure out my three felines. While it's not what you have with your cats who have been raised together, my trio have some sort of fragile relationship.
