All the men carried Big diaper pins for when socks didn't stay up, went to the toe in rubber boots, they pinned them to their pants.

It sure has been around! My Grandma carried a pistol. Warded off 2 men while she was trying to fish!! Lol…She said they turned around and walked away! She’s past now, but my Dad was so angry she was out fishing by herself. Grandma was a strong women, lived thru the wars and depression.

My grandmother always wore aprons; I'd torment her by zipping behind her and untying it. "You scoundrel!" she'd say while smiling. Then she'd mockingly threaten me with a wooden spoon. Miss her. Always have a safety pin on my key-ring. My grandfather always carried a (razor-sharp) pocket knife, and a Zippo; he smoked cigarettes and pipes. Good memories.

Great video, thanks for sharing it with us. I actually carry safety pins as part of my EDC kit. I carry an Altoids Tin with a basic first-aid kit in it, and I threw a few safety pins in my first-aid tin.

Enjoyed the video, MR. Interesting about the safety pins! The one thing my grandmother always carried on her was a handkerchief or a bunch of Kleenex - usually stuffed up her sleeve.

Were cooking on a 1948 Chambers. It was my step fathers mothers. She bought it new. I found cookstoves while paddling in Canada ... i have settled on Kalamazoo Pilgrams (wood/coal and propane/ng). One for our farm, one at our cabin. I have a dozen cook stoves here. Been heating with wood for 40 years.

I remember my great grandma always carried a pocket knife in her apron. She also had cannon ball plug tobacco in her apron. I watched her many times take that knife and cut off just the right amount tobacco for herself and chew it.Thanks for bringing back some memories for me today.

Wow, this brought back memories! My grandmother, also born in 1903, living in a tenement with a wood cook stove (on the third floor!), always had her cigs and matches in her apron and a small kitchen knife to hand which she used for everything, from cutting to stirring stew to opening another pack. Thanks MR for a great vid.

once again I feel like we grew-up in the same family. 😊 I also recall that for certain task my grandfathers also wore aprons they were made out of heavy canvas and leather. when you talked about the cord off the feed/flour bags the ladies here made doilies and from the sacks everything from table cloth to night dresses. another wonderful walk down memory lean.

I remember my grandfather always carrying a knife in a case called “Old Timer.” Not sure if they are still around anymore. He would always have a handkerchief and had a can of Skoal longcut wintergreen in his back pocket. He was a millwright by trade after WW2. The guy seemed to be able to fix just about anything.

Sadly Old Timer, schrade, went bankrupt in 04 I think. The name was purchased by the chi-coms who make a lower quality version of the knives now, and in stainless rather than that wonderful old carbon steel the former company used. Good to snag up those vintage ones when you find them. I still carry one occasionally, when there's no chance of losing it somewhere

My grandma carried a snuff can and I always wanted to know what it was that she was always drinking, I found a can stuffed in the couch and opened it and it was full of brown spit! Gross. Other then that she always had a tissue stuffed up her sleeve. I think my family was different than yours was!🤣🤣 Great stories that you tell about your family.
