I am 73. I knitted this pattern for years until about a year ago my dish cloths began to look wanky. I just couldn't figure it out until I found this tutorial. Thank goodness I know where my mistakes are because I love knitting mindlessly this pattern and then giving it as a gift. People never fail to appreciate it.

I love knitting on just about everything. I love knitting washcloths and giving 3 or 4 wrapped up with a very nice bar of soap. Every person I’ve given them to loves them and mention that they would love more. I was in my Drs office last week and she asked me what I was knitting. I told her and she had to feel it. I go back in August so I’m trying to get some worked up for her. 💜 Thank you so much for your great video.

Mine too! It’s all wonky shaped and like Swiss cheese. But I know why I have extra holes. I got distracted a few times. My issues is the last bind of stitch. Her video cuts out and jumps to her stitch off needle. So I’m stuck with last bind off stitch still on needle lol
@ArtfulHomemaking
@ArtfulHomemaking 9 ай бұрын
If you watch starting at 10:23 , it shows that last stitch on the needle, and you simply pull your needle out of that stitch (keeping the loop that was left), and then follow the instructions for cutting the thread and pulling it through that loop (that last stitch) that was left. This binds off the stitches. Hope that helps!

Hello Joy, I just finished my first dishcloth but it was quite small so I am curious as to what size needles & yarn you used here. I used 4.5m needles & Bernat Handicrafter cotton. I have seen a couple other videos here where they have used the Bernat cotton. Could you advise me on increasing the stitches can it be done using more than 45 stitches making the cloth larger. Sorry I like you video & I used to do the cloths years ago. I am an experienced knitter (hard to believe I am sure) because this is so easy. So in a nutshell should I be using another type of yarn or larger needles or both? I would appreciated whatever you can advise. Many thanks for a very friendly & easy to follow video.

Hello! Thank you so much for your kind words. I used US size 7 needles and Lily Sugar 'n Cream cotton yarn. Using larger needles will make the dishcloth larger. Here is the exact yarn I used: amzn.to/3rw7T76 (this is my affiliate link). I hope that helps, and thanks so much for watching!

Love this pattern and video! Thank you! I have one question--is it important that it be 45 stitches? How do you possibly enlarge the pattern? What is the scale I would need to use?
@ArtfulHomemaking
@ArtfulHomemaking 4 жыл бұрын
So glad it was helpful! I've also made this pattern in a rectangular shape, which makes more of a dishtowel. I have a blog post with instructions for that here: www.artfulhomemaking.com/kitchen-towel-knitting-pattern/ I haven't made anything larger than the dishtowel (which is rectangular instead of square), but you could make it larger. You would just keep increasing until it's about the size you want and then decrease. I haven't tried it (and I'm not sure about the scale), but others have told me that's how they've made blankets or afghans with this same basic pattern.
@gloreese

Repeat your increase row until you have 50 stitches on your needle to get a larger dish Cloths. Very Pink Knits has a KZbin video where she covers this vintage dishcloth and has a written pattern available for both the square and rectangular version. May I also suggest that you use as short of needles that will work and are comfortable. Working this pattern on long needles is torture. 😁

That does tend to be a feature of this pattern. I've read different things you can do to make it come out more evenly, but I just leave mine because they're just dishcloths. But for gift giving, you could try blocking them (google "blocking knitting").

I love this pattern so much! I have made two so far! I am now wanting to make a hand towel that matches, but I'm not sure how to go from a square to a rectangle other than doing a normal eyelet edge on hand towel with garter stich. Then, it would not be diganal like these are. Do you have any suggestions on how to tweak this pattern or another kind of pattern that would match?
@ArtfulHomemaking
@ArtfulHomemaking 2 жыл бұрын
So glad you love it, Morgan! I have a couple of other options for this pattern on my blog. Here's a coaster pattern, which is just a smaller square: www.artfulhomemaking.com/knitted-coasters-pattern/ But I know you're looking for a rectangle, so here's the pattern I created to make a rectangular towel shape: www.artfulhomemaking.com/kitchen-towel-knitting-pattern/ I've been planning to make a video to go with the towel, as there have been several questions about it, but haven't had a chance yet. Hopefully sometime this year!

@ArtfulHomemaking

Hello! To increase to 45 stitches, repeat Row 2 until you have 45 stitches on the needle. Row 2 is: k2, yo, k to end of row If it would be more helpful to see the instructions in writing rather than trying to follow the video, you can find those here: www.artfulhomemaking.com/knitted-dishcloths/

I just started. My dishcloth ended up a wonky shape but I figured it’s good practice. Video is good but I have the last stitch on my needle still because your video cut what you did with the very last stitch. It jumps from the last stitch to the loop. How did you get it off the needle? I tried taking it off and it wasn’t finished so I had to put back on needle and restitch to make last stitch again and afraid to take it off. What am I missing? Thanks
@ArtfulHomemaking
@ArtfulHomemaking 9 ай бұрын
Hi Cheryl!

Hello, thank you for sharing this pattern. I've knitted this in the past without issue, however this time the lace pattern, or specifically the holes it creates are larger on the decrease than on the increase. My yarn is 100% cotton, size 4 australian needles. Its happened twice now. I'm very careful making sure I've followed the instruction properly as i have knitted it many times before. I'm frustrated, any suggestion as to what might be happening?

So sorry the tutorial wasn't helpful for you. I had a hard time getting the camera into a good position. If I ever film another one, I'll be sure to film from another angle. Hope you find just the right one!

This is still way advanced for me as a beginner. Your to fast and not sure what your doing in between the what ever it is with your fingers. I’m hoping if I gave it an actual try I might get it but…..idk

Yes, sometimes it looks more difficult until you give it a try. :) If you prefer to read the pattern, that's available here: www.artfulhomemaking.com/knitted-dishcloths/

The instructions are on the screen, so you can mute the video and not hear the music. I made this video 4 years ago, and there are many things I would do differently if I were to remake it.

The long needles she’s using distract me from what she’s doing. It’s awkward.

Sorry about that. I had a hard time getting the camera at a good angle to film it so it was visible to the viewer.
