Grandpa Shares 50 YEAR Family Recipes || We Spent 15$ on THIS Breakfast Buffet

Its a great day today as we can welcome YOU to TAIWAN. Our adventure starts in Zhongli, on a delightful weather morning walk, the streets are just blooming with smells of tasty street food.
Walking by this same shop yesterday, I had a great feeling, I marked it on the map. Returning bright and early, these 50 year old recipes are just perfect for our introduction into the BEST FOODS FOR BREAKFAST for anyone's first day in Taiwan.
The owner is such a cool older man, working in this same shophouse location long enough to even see his grandson helping to take orders, and after giving us a quick tour of the menu we are ready to put in our first order!
Taiwanese big-city breakfast will traditionally include a basic combination of fried dough, savory rolled or folded cakes, possibly some noodles (or dumplings), with home-made soymilk to drink. We add on several fried vegetables and some interesting looking meat selections, and finally decide on a bonus round of steamed dumplings, ordering sort of a family-sized meal (for the two of us) to really make the most of our first big meal in Taiwan.
Again, it is so great to be here, and I hope you are looking forward to enjoying many more videos learning about the wonderful island of Taiwan! This place has an incredible amount of human diversity living in a rich, gorgeous natural setting, I am looking forward very much to putting together all these videos as well.

I am just laughing thinking of a bike ride in China last year where I ate 3 containers of dumplings, one by one, and then ordered soup dumplings while the 2 older ladies just laughed (I was finishing a 9hr ride, one of the best I've done in China)... and I came back the next day and ordered the same thing again, just to see if they were really as good when I had NOT rode the bike so long... No way! In ZhongLi?? For Cycling there are way too many red lights for me, but it is still so cool. I love the roads. I love the people, I love the feeling, I really do love Taiwan. Why did you move away?

@@JoelsTastyRide I worked at Zhongli Elementary but I didn't live in Zhongli. I lived in Taoyuan City and also in New Taipei City one stop out of the City. Technically Zhongli is part of Taoyuan. It's a little confusing. Regarding food, two of the best beef noodle restaurants are in Zhongli.

What Taiwanese foods are spicy like Thai food?

Hi Allen! Well, in Taiwan you can usually choose something spicy from the table setting, whether it is chili cut up, and put in vinegar, or chili jam (half spicy, half sweet and/or salty), but in general No, the food in Taiwan is not very spicy at all, even for moderate spice levels, and definitely cannot compare with Thailand in pretty much any dish that I found in the entire trip.
