With the shoe polish guys, just ask: "Is it free?" They'll say "Yes, sir", get the shoe polished, say "Thanks" and then walk away. They'll shout and call you names but they won't actually do anything because if police gets involved, they're the ones going to jail, and they know it. Got my shoes polished every day I was in Turkey that way. EDIT: Just keep in mind, those are mostly, actually not professional shoe shiners. I once had a guy trying to polish my suede shoes using water with detergent. So, be wary of their technique and give them pointers if needed. They'll appreciate it ;)

So even if the scammer says they'll call the police, just call them on their bluff, or better yet, call the police yourself. They'll arrest the scammer every time, and that's why the scammers don't like to get into protracted arguments. Again, if you can't stomach arguing with them, or if you just want to go about your day, just walk away and they'll leave you alone after shouting a few insults.

Our golden retriever does this. Sometimes he just turns up with a tail hanging out of his mouth, or he'll pick up a rat or mouse that the cats have caught. It's a gentle way to peacefully suffocate some poor suffering vermin.

Fun fact that’s what happens to everyone when they get dizzy. In the semicircular canals of the ear, where your body knows where your head is while it’s moving, there’s a substance in there. When you spin really fast and stop really fast the liquid keeps moving, causing your brain to think you are still spinning and causing your eyes to follow, then go back to the center over and over again. Very very cool stuff

2:40 this actually happens when adults get dizzy as well, if they have glasses on that make them unable to focus. It’s called nystagmus and it has to do with the fluid in your inner ear and a reflex that makes the eyes move that way :) The human body is pretty cool

The baby who spins and his eyes flick - it happens to all of us, just different levels - its called Post Rotary Nystagmus, and we actually measure it to evaluate the vestibular-ocular reflex (the fluid movement in the three canals) that stabilize us and gives us an idea of ones vestibular system functioning. Too little is bad and to much is bad - there is a sweet spot, therapists spin kids for 10 x 2 second rotations on a rotating board and count the number of flicks for the evaluation.

I'm kind of surprised they have open parking that far into the "danger zone". You shouldn't be that close to an active launch unless you're behind blast windows inside of a reinforced bunker, otherwise you're easily chancing being a crispy critter and getting a Darwin Award. (And the speed of some of that debris could also earn one a Darwin.)
