When a grandson decided to renovate his grandparents' old farmhouse in Tennessee, he never expected to make history by removing the floor. He just thought he was making the ancient house presentable for the next owner. But hidden beneath decades of dust and memories lay a discovery that would change everything. Each item uncovered told a story his grandparents had kept secret for years. Join us as we explore how one man's determination to restore his grandparents' farmhouse led to a discovery that made history. You won't believe what was hiding under those floorboards all along!

Paul was a clever boy who preserved his grandfathers legacy of preparing the coins and restored the house to it state. I loved this story because it tells us that whatever our parents our grandparents had preveseved was our legacy as well to proceed to restore

I gave my grandmother knowing her love of ceramics and Greek culture an ornate plate made in Greece. I wasn't wealthy but remember paying around $60 for it in 1985. She died at the age of 101 and naturally in her will the plate came back to me. Imagine my amazement when it has been valued at $25,000.

Stories like this make me weep. I had wonderful parents growing up but left home when I was 19 and never really appreciated how good they had been, They died years ago and I never got married or had children and I admit I sometimes feel desperately lonely as I have no living relatives apart from a brother I never got on with. My advice to anyone would be don't leave it too late to start a family.

That is very sad. My family was quite large. Never enough to go around they are almost gone now. It's been hard to watch most from alcohol abuse I myself an allergic. Soon I will be alone. I have three young grandsons that I wish I could see more. Soon I will be gone too. At least I have left my blood line behind. I lost my only son. But my daughter came through in shining form. At least when I go. I can feel proud of those boys. All three strapping lads that are very handsome as well 😊

His grandparents collection should be on tour for its historical value and leased for exhibitions. This could pay for the maintenance and upkeep of the family farm and give others the opportunity to experience the treasure trove of historical value his grandparents procured. Let this be a lesson for future historians.

But when moving esp into a smaller house.one has to get rid of so much. And the younger generation today dont care as much. Im sorry to say. I’m glad he went through everything and cleaned out what he could. My mom died in 2013. The task is hard and huge. But it is worth preserving what you can of family history and memories. My mom’s Bible, cameo my dad brought her, wedding rings, the quilt my Memaw made my parents and her pearls are the only valuables she owned. The rest was paper of clothes. She gave me all before she died because she wanted me to have them and knew I’d keep them. I cherished her more than anything and I will keep her things forever. Coins are very valuable. My mom collected all the state quarters for both my brother and I. I don’t know if he kept his. I kept mine. I also got her home, my grandfather’s secretary desk and some other antique furniture. Family is everything. The desk has a section with glass and shelves like a china cabinet and a flip down lid. I don’t know anything about it, but it’s beautiful.

When my father's house was cleared out by my sisters they found shoe boxes filled with old silver dollar coins. Rather than checking on their vaalue and sharing the information with me they spent the coins without a thought of what their true worth was including my father;s pocket watch collection that had watches a century old. some of which belonged to my great great grandfather, grandfather and my father So much family history was lost including hand written records of family history by their carelessness and thoughtlessness.

While I was not as lucky as that young man. I have become the kind of records keeper for our family. We go back to 1682 when our ancestors came from Ireland with William Penn as Quackers. My best discovery was a game called "Caring" invented by my grandfather on my fathers side in 1949. For decades rumors that he invented one, but there was no actual evidence it existed. Then one day while viewing eBay under Guthrie Center Iowa where he lived for many years, I saw it offered out of the blue 💙. I bought it on the spot and will display it in my house for future generations. Alas, being 70 and my sister 68, there is no surviving family to share my discovery with, they would have gotten a kick out of how and where I found it. But with luck my daughters and my future generations will come to appreciate it. Always appreciate family history. God Bless!

Call me Big Chief Rain On the Parade if you like but I cannot see how Grandpa, in the day, found enough money to accumulate all of those precious items. The face value of those notes and coins would have put him in the league of very wealthy men even allowing for the collection to have been made over decades. I see he wisely avoided postage stamps. And showing the collection on social media would have brought as much unwanted attention as constructive advice.
