I think this is the most straightforward tutorial without the extra chit chat and having to watch a person crochet when one already knows how. Very refreshing.

This is the BEST explanation on how to make a square cardigan! I've looked at so many others, but this is the ONLY one that covers the part about measurements. What a great video! I wish I had found this one first. Thank you!!!

I like your clear straight forward instructions. You go right to the point. The formula you give to figure out the size the shrug should be (according to the height of the person) is very helpful. It simplifies the calculation. Thank you very much!

Mine turned out to look more like a bolero than a cardigan, but myst say I liked that better. Don’t know why though, but guessing it was bc I crocheted with double yarns.

Do you have a video on how to make granny square? I found other videos but does not match your pattern. I'm a little confused.
@SpoonsHooks
@SpoonsHooks 5 жыл бұрын
Geri - I don't have my own video about granny squares, but if you search for "crochet granny square tutorial" on KZbin, there are lots to choose from. You can actually make this pattern using any crocheted square, so simply start with whatever granny square pattern works for you.

Is that just two rows of SC that make up the side seams? it looks like more in the finished garment. However that maybe an illusion. Thanks! Great video.
@SpoonsHooks
@SpoonsHooks 6 жыл бұрын
Patricia - You work 1 round of SC around the granny square as a "binding," and then put right sides together and work a seam of SC through the loops of the SC binding. It does look like more SC than it actually is. Does that help?

Is it possible to do this with a granny square that isn't the "basic" pattern? Like a granny square that has a flower design?
@SpoonsHooks
@SpoonsHooks 7 жыл бұрын
Addy - It's actually possible to do this with a crocheted square in any pattern! I've also made it from a square crocheted in rows of hdc/back loop only, for a ribbed effect. I'm sure a flower pattern would be lovely. Good luck, and let me know how it goes!

can a 3x size be made with this and how would I make it for my size? thank you.
@SpoonsHooks
@SpoonsHooks 7 жыл бұрын
Alice - I've made it up to size L and I know at least one other person has made it size 1x without problems. It's meant to be a loose-fitting, forgiving cardigan. My recommendation is to start by making the basic square and then pin the seams and try it on before sewing. Then if necessary you have the option of making the square bigger, or even making it a rectangle (by adding more rows onto two sides only) if that works better for you. In any case, I'm eager to hear how it works for you, so keep me posted!

How would you make a baby's one and a child's one how big
@SpoonsHooks
@SpoonsHooks 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Mandy - as the pattern says, make your granny square at least half as tall as the intended wearer of the cardigan, plus an extra inch or two. If you were making one for a child who is 4 feet tall (for example) I suggest starting with a granny square that's 25" tall (2 feet plus 1 inch). Then I'd suggest pinning where the seams would go and trying it on the child, then making it bigger if necessary, before you stitch the seams and add the borders. Also, you will probably need to adjust the armholes to make them smaller. Hope this helps!

@SpoonsHooks
@SpoonsHooks 7 жыл бұрын
Sylvia - I used 4 skeins of Lion Brand Heartland yarn to make the cardigan in the video, which is 568 grams. To make a larger cardigan for a taller person, I would use 5 skeins which is 710 grams. Hope this helps!

@SpoonsHooks
@SpoonsHooks 7 жыл бұрын
Sylvia - I've made this in size 14. If you have 1250 yards (1150 meters) of #4 yarn, that should be enough. For this pattern, yarn length is a better measurement than yarn weight in ounces/grams.
