Jalen has always been a real dude to me and i have always looked up to him. Im proud to see a brother like him make it out Detroit and become a very successful man. He was only speaking on how he felt at that age and he didn't hold back like most would. it's no secret Duke has always recruited a certain type of player.

Jalen has an irrational disdain for Duke, but his teams lost to Duke on the occasions they played and Duke also took a championship from them, so I get it. Duke also recruited Chris Webber, so that kind of muddies the waters for Jalen.

@MrMhj26 It's not the truth, though. He is actually factually incorrect. Duke doesn't cater to one type of player. Chris Webber was recruited heavily by Duke, and Webber was tempted to play for Coach K. Laettner was just as poor as all those members of the Fab-5, it's just that Jalen Rose's racism didn't allow him to ever imagine that such a thing could be true, because he -- along with lots of other people -- just assume that people like Laettner must come from wealth. Why? Because of skin color. There were just as many players on those early 90's Duke teams from poorer areas of the globe as there were at Michigan. It's just that Jalen Rose doesn't even stop to think that such a thing could be true, because he's too busy perpetuating a false narrative.

@@marcelproust1520 C Webb at the time wasnt as poor as Jalen then. He might have grown up that way but by the time he was going to college his fam may have had a few dollars. Not necessarily saying his fam was well afluent but he wasnt dirt poor like Jalen was describing his situation.

Jalen and Grant were both great professional basketball players. Grant overcame not having to work as hard as he did to setting the goal, working harder than anyone, and becoming great. Jalen overcame poverty and environmental factors to set goals, work hard and achieve greatness. The hatred, disconnect, and misunderstanding between the poor and rich are not isolated to one ethnic or racial community. But I applaud both equally and both have provided financial security through their efforts for their future generations. Both overcame different, but no less potent obstacles in becoming the top .002% in their profession.

I've said this before, now I'll say it again. Jalen is my Newphew. He and my oldest son went to Detroit Southwestern. While going to Southwestern they lived out of the District so they had to have and keep at least a 3.0 gpa., that was the program that was at Southwestern at the time they went and they both had 3.9 gpa's. While there they also made the National Honor Society, and other honor's. So y'all hate'n ass people can stop the hate. Jalen and my son had offer's from even Stanford, and numerous Ivey League School's as well. So Jalen is now, and was then a person of intelligence.

I have much respect for Jalen Rose speaking what our society can't handle today which is truth. We get so upset when people say things that are absolute truth. We have to stop getting offended when we hear something that we know has a reality but yet can't handle. Jalen Rose comes off as being racist or Prejudice or calling out certain players like Grant Hill being an Uncle Tom. When in reality is not the Grant Hill's Uncle Tom he's just stating the fact that do preferred players and better environments then they would a kid from the hood that had Talent back in the day. So why get upset when he speaks the truth. You can even see this skip couldn't even handle the small segments that was given to them to talk about it the reality not the issue. Society please wake up and start dealing with truth and quit accepting what you just want to hear or what you think is the status quo. Our society today is way too sensitive and they need to grow up.

That question about Grant Hill and Elton Brand doing a disservice to their black heritage by joining Duke really pisses me off b/c it if anything, they’d be a disservice if they decided NOT to join Duke. They went there to improve the betterment of their families and their livelihoods, that’s black excellence.

The whole reasoning for Jalen’s feeling like he did was because HE had a pro athlete dad who WASN’T in his life or providing for the family like Grant Hill’s dad was, which caused his single mom to work 2 jobs, struggle to take care of the family on her own, miss out on going to college (like Hill’s mom did) in order to better the family income in the future...people need to stop taking bits & pieces of a comment & making it into more than what it meant.

I don't believe Elton Brand grew in an affluent area. I think he did well on his SATs in addition to being a great basketball player. You can't put everyone who made it to a place that you couldn't get to in a safe little category to make yourself feel better. What were Jalen's grades coming out of high school? also, Duke definitely recruited Chris Webber, and yes he went to a private school, but, he lived in Detroit, and I'm willing to bet that he had much better grades than Jalen.

This video is a perfect encapsulation of why I’ve always disliked Skip. He takes exactly what Jalen says, Jalen spoke articulately and concise, Skips mind warps it into “So you’re basically implying that Grant Hill is doing Black Americans a disservice.” Lmfao like bro what???

But he had a scholarship to an expensive private school in a suburb outside of Detroit; if there wasn't a teacher strike in Detroit that year; he would have went to Southwestern with Jalen. School didn't start until the end of September that year because of the strike.

@@JohnMcCrimmon-bc4ei Yeah, because Duke would have lost their championships due to Webber screwing up. Duke had back-to-back championships during the Fab-5 era and Duke beat Michigan twice, once in the championship game. Duke didn't need Webber.

Gotta say..... that’s truth. That’s how it works and that’s the way it is. This is also the truth. The players in the NBA are just the ones that either the league wants to have as their students to portray greatness..... or the ones that have the brains and skills to be there. There are a ton of bball talent out there with no book skills. I believe there should be a recruitment program to go out there and give some of those phantom talents a chance at the big stage. Just give em a chance.

@christschool
@christschool 4 жыл бұрын
@@bryanaustin5275 I grew up homeless, there is no implication from my comment that rich kids are better, they're not. What I object to is bragging without backing up your shit. Chris Webber wasn't poor and Brian Davis came from a very poor family. I think you read into my comment what you wanted to think. My bottom line is if you can't back up the talk with your walk, STFU! Jalen Rose likes to pretend that poverty is a black thing, it ain't! Brian Davis grew up in the hood' as well and by all accounts, had the roughest childhood of anyone from either team and he was recruited by Duke but Jalen conveniently leaves that out. Niether Christian Laettner nor Bobby Hurley grew up rich. Jalen is still butt hurt they got their asses kicked every time. That Duke team had what Michigan didn't have, a grittiness to do whatever it took to win. Jalen's arrogance is that he believes because he grew up poor, black and athletic, he deserved to win. WRONG! Lastly, Michigan is a top university in this country, its not like he went to Grambling because that was his only option. How many kids were rejected from Michigan that had stellar academics and worked just as hard to get that opportunity?! Because Jalen could dribble and shoot a ball, he got the chance those other kids didn't and its paid off for him. Good for him, but his weak ass would be a nobody if he wasn't gifted by God with that ability. Sorry, but they got outplayed, out hustled and got their asses handed to him for exactly the attitude he put on display in this video.
