“The most… uh… dangerous man on Earth…” - Superman, JLA #3 War of the Worlds. I think I agree with most of this assessment of The Return of Bruce Wayne, it feels like it could built up on more. Although, for me, that’s probably because I just want more stories about Grant Morrison’s ideas like Dino-Czar Tyrannko and the Subterranosauri. There’s an episode of Batman: The Brave and The Bold that functions in a similar manner to The Return of Bruce Wayne that has Eqinox as the central villain in Season 2 but was cut down due to budget cuts, as far as I recall. Anyways, really excellent analysis into the absolutely mental yet intriging creative process of Grant Morrison. Can’t wait for the Batman Incorporated video, it’s my favourite out of Morrison’s tenure on Batman as I really love the modernisation of the Batmen of All-Nations/Club of Heroes concepts. I’ll be keeping a watchful eye until then.

i think that the notion about the "whys" not being important is part of the reason for the clash between morrison and moore. Think about Moores focus on detail, pure logic and things fitting perfectly. Their approaches seems like the polar opposites of each other, at least in that regard. If one guy wants to highlight everything in continuity and the other guy tries to expose superhero tropes through a realistic lense, then they are bound to disagree.

Sometimes I get overwhelmed by how much more intelligent Grant Morrison is than all of us. Because it usually takes me at least 3 reads to really appreciate his best works. The things he writes often turns from "meh" and "confusing" to "absolutely genius" after a few years and rereads.

I love you guys and your videos. As for this comic, I read the whole Grant Morrison arc of Seven Soldiers, Batman, Batman and Robin, Final Crisis to Return of Bruce Wayne once every year to get a better understanding of all of it, and on every reread I find something new that I didnt get last time. Although I'm a little crazier now😄. In this comic, Batman basically becomes like the radion bullet that Darkseid shoots into the past to kill Orion in Final Crisis, just like Orion's death in past indicates the defeat of superheroes in present, batman traveling through time and bursting in present was meant to do the same thing except in this case its Batman, and he and his friends beats all odds to prevent it. This indicates the end of higher dimensional New Gods era, and all the living being of the normal 4D multiverse become the NEW New Gods, who don't have to rely on higher conceptual beings to exist.

LOVE IT. Makes total sense. So many layers... What do you make of the giant bullet-shaped ship that is crashed outside the cave in the Cave-Man times? Is that what Batman travelled in?

@@ImperiusRex Thank you so much. I'm pretty sure at this point I've read Final Crisis enough time that I can answer any question related to it😆. No, Batman didn't travel in the ship, actually the omega sanction is just a way to use Omega effect, omega effect is like water while omega beam and omega effect are like the shapes water can take when put in different vessels. If you didnt know, New gods are higher dimensional being that present themselves in different forms to interact with normal universes, so while superheroes fight Darkseid in normal time, New Gods see the world from outside of time, this is why omega sanction can send people directly into the past or future, its like us picking up 2d mario from one game to its sequel. As for the bullet shaped ship, its actually the space pod superman was sent in to earth. After batman and flash proved that the radion bullet was sent back in time to kill Orion and since it was sent through higher dimension, it had more bad effects on the time and space than just killing Orion. So in answer to Darkseid's assault, the superheroes sent Superman's ship with the newspaper of heroes victory to the past by their own "bullet type" object. Batman actually read their message in stone age era after which he draws the symbols of superheroes on batcave's walls as shown in Return of Bruce Wayne.

There was a fun tie in in Red Robin, which follows tim drake robins journey being his own man and not accepting bruce is dead. In the run he finds out he is right by finding historical clues.

I think "why" is oft conflated with "how". How doesn't matter, Doctor Who style sci fi nonsense. Why? Well that's much more interesting. Because why is the realm of the emotional, of the thematic. So why does Bruce inhabit various cyphers, to unknowingly perpetuate the Bat-Myth? Because it already happened. These cyphers, though forgotten, set the stage for Bruce to become Batman. Each cypher is a figure of comics that were shunted off or assimilated by superheroes, and each represent a facet of Batman. A caveman. A witchfinder. A pirate. A cowboy. A detective. A spaceman. Each in their own way sequentially paved the path for Bruce. After all, he's never been alone, these past selves have been there beside him. Alfred has been beside him. The Robins have been beside him. Gordon, the JLA, etc. etc. He's never been alone, even in himself.

Hey guys ') I've recently finished my third re-read of Morrisons Batman omnibus vol 1 - 3 run. Like all Morrisons work it really does get better each time. That said though I've also finished my first ( and maybe only read through ) read of the giant final crysis omnibus which I was told fits between Batman vol 1 and 3. Got it new for £62 so judging by its price I don't think I'll lose money selling it. Parts of it was good but far too many characters for me. Literally hundreds!! And I cared for very few of them. I didn't need to buy it and I thought I did. Still..it's not terrible and if I ever can be bothered to re-read it I'm sure I'll appreciate it more but I'd take my money back in an instant lol ;)

i like each era is a kind of comic/pulp magazine adventure protagonist. SOOOOO DARKSEID wants mind control of everything, when he was defeted turns into a black hole something he could always do but doesnt because is the end of everything, his defet start when batman shots him, so when he is dyin inmidietly sends him through time to destroy everything incase the jla stops the black hole. he could always send people to time but doesnt because does the endo of everything. i gues darkseid makes his moves many steps a head beacuse he is multidiensional and understand all the time shit.
