It can grow so thick it shades trees out. Have heard about it climbing electric poles and eventually blowing a transformer. My understanding it was brought into eastern Kentucky to reduce erosion in coal mined land. Deer like honeysuckle, another invasive, but it doesn't seem to have the impact kudzu has. It also seems to be somewhat frost tolerant.

Kudzu is very frost sensitive - turns brown at the first hint of cold.

As a kid growing up in the south the old wive’s tale about kudzu was if you left your windows open at night it would grow through the window and take the whole house!

Ha! It does grow fast!

If you can keep it out of trees like my uncle used to do by baling it regularly for cows, it makes one heck of a good early-season hunting spot. Every buck in the neighborhood WILL be in a kudzu patch that is actively growing and within reach!

Kudzu is a legume and high in protein. However, it almost always spreads and does way more damage than good.

Figure out how far into the woods it has grown. Take a dozer in woods and push down all the trees it has grown on to back toward the kudzu area, creating a kudzu brush pile and a break in the woods similar to a fire break. Drive the perimeter/break line couple times through summer with boomless sprayer using Remedy herbicide. Will keep it contained and will be an excellent summer food source. Plant fall plot in woods on open break line that was created

I’ve seen areas taken over by kudzu driving down interstate. Covers Everything in the area

If you go back into the woods most times it peters out because deer eat it to the ground.

No, we up north may not have Kudzu, unfortunately, we have Japanese Hops-another invasive vine.

Dr. Grant, Thanks for your channel. I’m learning something from every video. Do you see a dermatologist? The dark spots on your cheek may need some attention. Thanks!

I truly appreciate your concern! I've had two kidney transplants and the meds I'm on make me very susceptible to skin cancer. I do see a dermatologist annually. Thanks again!

Oh yeah... you are spot-on. Do not plant or transplant Kudzu. I grew up in North Mississippi, and where this stuff was, trees became "Kudzu Zombies". Eventually, you have a dead tree.

Jim - There are some good herbicide blends that will terminate it. Glyphosate won't kill it.

It almost always spreads and does significant damage. It is a legume and high in protein but so are many other plants.
