For those of you doing this tutorial and stopping in the middle and saving to take a break: Make sure to separately save the Image you painted on the UV unwrapped shape! It will not be saved if you save just the blender file. He says that at the end but I lost my progress because I took a break :( Hope I could help. PS: Thanks for your awesome tutorials Mr. Abbitt, really appreciate your work.

Personally I would argue that when choosing a base colour for a new map, it might be good to go for one with _maximum_ contrast like magenta or lime green, to make it easy to be sure you've painted everywhere. (That is assuming you _want_ to paint everywhere of course, if you want a flat colour with some painted imperfections, this doesn't apply)

Alright, this is my speed: no art skills needed. I can use a mouse! ;) This was as simple and straight-forward as possible. I tried using Blender years ago and gave up to go with SketchUp instead. I still think Blender is at times more confusing than it has to be, but the user interface has improved by leaps and bounds, it is now actually fun to use instead of endlessly frustrating. I learned a whole bunch of little things on the side, but you didn't clutter the main task with unnecessary rambling. Really, really good tutorial. I am inordinately proud of my rock-n-post. Thank you! As to Blender still being more confusing than it has to be -- I lost all my texturing work despite having saved the scene frequently because I didn't finish the tutorial in one sitting and shut down my machine before getting to the point where you tell us to save textures. WHY? If it's in the bloody scene, it ought to be saved by default. If I want to get rid of unwanted textures, I know how to do it. *grump*. Not your fault, but frustrating. And now onward to more complex UV unwrapping. With any luck you'll have a tutorial for that as well -- ah, I see the YT algorithm for recommendations in the side bar is on the job. Though maybe the grass first.

I think you can split Blenders working interface between two or more screens. Aside from "Rendering in a new window", I have not been able to find it or figure it out. I may have done it by accident but because it was not consistent or reliable, I never committed the action to memory. But that would be a HUGE plus, especially when you go and buy a pen display and now have TWO screens and all that real estate to work with.
