What advice do you have for public school grant writing ? First time trying to write grants for our high school PTSA which is currently operating in a deficit . In addition to community fundraising , membership drives within our school family , we hope to get corporation buy in who advertise education as being one of their pillars , like the Bill &Melinda Gates foundation .

Good question! I would advise going local instead of starting at the international level like Gates. Since you're working with the PTSA, you could reach out to your nearest community foundation. They serve the same area that you do, and have staff who are just as familiar as you are with the needs of the community. They have grant officers on staff whose job it is to meet with you and talk about options! @@grantchatter thank you our districts public school foundation echoed the same :) I understand some corporations have an amount ear marked for philanthropy, but leave some on the table because they are not being asked. How do you find family foundations in your area? There may be some unknown donors who would be more than happy to donate to our public school but we dont know about each other.
