Hey internet! Today we're here to talk about Granular Synthesis and explain what it is and a few case examples for using a granular synth and whatnot. Granular synths are super cool things, and are great for a lot more than just big abstract pad sounds - I highly recommend checking them out!
Stay classy!

Yeah, it's really that classic deep radio voice. The commercial voice. Not only the timbre but also the intonations, the way he speaks. Like that surprising voice of that homeless guy that was discovered some 10 years ago that also had this fantastic timbre.

I’m surprised you haven’t released content on Padshop 2 with the new Spectral oscillator, it seems right up the ally of someone proficient with ambient sound design. I’m currently in FL Studio and itching to try Padshop 2 (and may actually pick up Cubase entirely, provided PS2 comes as a VST as well). A friend of mine is insisting I also look into Pigments2 for granular capability, but in addition to granular, the Spectral oscillator on PS2 seems like a useful/fun sidestep/improvement on Harmor’s own resynthesis capabilities, which I am using now. Then comes the painfully tough decision of what synthesizer will best compliment Harmor + Padshop/Pigments: Phase Plant or Falcon. Yeah, wish me luck. I could throw in The Dark Zebra for extra indecision, but next to the other two, in 2020...

When playing chords on a granular sound, does the synth automatically tune itself? If you play an A, is it an A? I often put tonal sounds into granular stuff and always find myself wondering about this
@VenusTheory
@VenusTheory 5 жыл бұрын
Yo! Well that depends on the synth. More often than not you'll have to set a 'key' of the sample or a 'root' or some other word/control for the pitch/root of the sample used. However in some cases like Kontakt's 'tone machine' this is automatic.
@nickpov3y
@nickpov3y 5 жыл бұрын
@@VenusTheory I'm using Quanta. I definitely get a tuning option but it isn't labelled. I ask because I recently put something in there which should have needed tuning but didn't, but then in the past it's been a nightmare to tune. Looks like one to look for in the manual

Speaking of granular synthesis.... Would love to hear what you have to say about Spacecraft from Delta-V/Tracktion and Dust from Soundmorph. I own both and these two are very special granular synths, they're very unique in their workflow and they both have quite an unorthodox take on granular synthesis. Check them out!
