@@apatheticxmindsetx3549 i definitely understand this. i need all of my upper teeth extracted and half of my bottom teeth. i still wear a mask everywhere i go, even to the gym etc and people glare at me and even make comments but they don’t know i’m only doing it to hide my teeth. i just turned 28 a few months ago and i already have the dentures made and everything. the next step is just… going to get the procedure done which for me is terrifying. i keep putting it off. the unknown of how i will feel afterwards terrifies me to the point where i don’t schedule the surgery. ☹️ i’m not so much worried about how people will see me with dentures but the process of myself getting used to them, etc. i think dentures are more common than we realize, and ending the negative stigma surrounding them is what we should be doing :)

@@seasons1146 I had a bunch of top extractions done a month ago and getting them out is absolutely fine, even under a local anaesthetic! You only feel a slight pull. Once you're home, just be sure to take a dose of paracetamol (not aspirin or ibuprofen! they can make bleeding worse) every four to five hours to keep on top of pain and for its anti-inflammatory effects. On the second day, I started gently rinsing my mouth out with an antibacterial mouthwash every couple of hours too, and it might have been a placebo effect, but I'm sure that made my mouth feel better too!

Cannot believe I had this same exact thing done, but I was wide awake. Wasn’t lucky enough to get sedated. Just a stress ball in each hand and lots of squirming! 6 days later I didn’t even need Motrin and was able to eat foods I hadn’t eaten in years!

The process wasn’t fun of course, but it did happen quickly. I would recommend headphones or ear buds to listen to music too if you can. The sounds are not great.

I feel this guys pain before the procedure. Been dealing with dental issues for 35 years. I clinch my teeth and wore the enamel off. Went and had crowns placed on everything. I never saw my mom with real teeth through my entire life. She only wore the dentures if she was going out on a date or work. She never actually explained why or what can happen if you neglect your dental hygiene. She never even enforced anyone to brush. Just acted as if it's normal to live like this. I remember I broke half of one of my bottom teeth while playing hockey at school and she literally acted like there was nothing that could be done about it. I didn't know if it could have been fixed immediately if she had just had me seen until I became a adult and looked into these things myself. I only have one memory of seeing as dentist as a kid and he looked pissed off at my mom. I didn't understand why until I became older

I'm having all my upper teeth removed this coming Wednesday and I'm freaking am a cardiac patient. Stopped my aspiring and blood thinners last Tuesday. I'm praying there's no major complications. I had beautiful teeth but 7 yrs ago had 3 heart attacks and the meds they gave me made my teeth start to fall out. I could be sitting watching TV and feel something in my mouth and it was part of my teeth falling. Can tell you these past 3 yrs have been the most depressing I've ever been. I take pride in my teeth love to smile. But because of the pandemic everything got canceled and then had to have a heart procedure done in the middle of the pandemic, so my cardiologist told nothing done to my teeth for a yr. So the rest fell. I'm just praying nothing goes wrong and I can get new teeth soon.

Take care of your teeth kids! I've been drinking mountain dew since I was a kid, was smoking from like 17 until around 31, and ate candy a ton. I never flossed and I had bad brushing techniques. I always made sure brush my teeth but it was to not have bad breath and not to keep my teeth healthy. I've had quite a few teeth pulled, root canals, fillings, and even a bridge. It's been a long journey fixing my teeth and since I've been going to a dental school it's taken even longer, but my mouth looks good. I still have some missing in the lower back of my mouth but for the most part things look great. I still haven't given up mountain dew but I try to drink less. I quit smoking about 8 years ago but I vape. I still don't floss much but I do it when I remember. I don't eat candy often at all and almost never eat chocolate. The big changes have come from just seeing a dentist regularly so if I have a problem they have can fix it before it gets bad and the cleanings, xrays, and Fluoride treatment. Also I brush the correct way and the goal is to clean my teeth and gums and not just to keep my breath clean.

Joshua, find out if any colleges in your area teach Dentistry. If so, you can be some hands on experience for the students. Don't be scared, they are walked through it, by real practicing, Dentists. That would be your cheapest option, my friend. I took that path because I was addicted to pills for ten years, and I let my teeth go to shit. Yale NH Hosp. does have a dental clinic..the wait for an appt. is long however. BUT, YNHH does have a lower cost or free program..you call their business ofc. get form, submit it to them with the documents they need and then u get decision. I truly wish there was a Dentist like you here in Fresno California, I am terrified to go to the dentist so much so the next time I get a tooth infection it would probably kill me this time the last time I was in the ICU on a breathing machine for a week from a infection, I’ve had more but that was the worst, now what’s left of them are infected little nubs where normal healthy teeth should be! Number one on my bucket list is to get my teeth fixed instead of a crazy fun vacation or something like that, it’s sad but I guess it’s my reality! But it’s not my fault though at least!

I'm glowing 😳 I no longer wake up feeling sick, I feel 100x better and no more infection or pain! Surprisingly it wasn't actually painful, just a bit uncomfortable lol but the toothache pain was instantly gone and it was AMAZING!!!

I suffer from gum disease and my mouth is often swolen, in age 23 I had 6 teeth removed already. I saved some money (8k usd, I need 25k) and I'm planning to get all my teeth removed and instead get implants. This video is great and it shows what is going to happen so I can prepare myself.

They will. Good dentists want to make sure you are as comfortable as possible. And numbing lasts some hours. Mine asks periodically how I'm doing and if for some reason I dont feel numbed enough he numbed me better.

Poor guy. Judging from the beard and lack of grey hair in it, he seems fairly young. I'm sure he will be feeling better now that those teeth are out. On another note, extractions are the one part of dental assisting that I miss. You never knew what was going to happen. Will it be easy? Or will the damn thing break and then the dentist has to go digging. I saw this one extraction where the patient was abscessed so bad that when the tooth came out all this pus started pouring out of the socket. It literally looked like Campbell's Chicken Noodle Soup broth. And lucky us, we were doing this in the hygienist's room for some reason that I can't remember now, so guess who didn't have high speed suction. It was a freaking nightmare.

It's not always meth mouth... I had hyperemesis when I was pregnant and threw up several times every day and my teeth took a major toll so that's pretty judgmental to say. He could have a disease of the mouth....

My teeth are this bad and it's not "meth mouth" in my case I had nearly a year I was malnourished and throwing up everything I ate due to stomach stricture. My teeth weakened from it, broke, yellowed etc from it.

I know his mouth said Thank you!! Wow! I knew a nurse that had it done this way and when her gums healed around the dentures it looked just like her own teeth. I could not believe they were dentures. Her dentures look so good and they had a natural look to them too.

When's into the dentist on Saturday at 9 a.m. and I was done by 10:50 16 teeth extracted. I was super Numb and it didn't hurt. Unfortunately after my second pregnancy I developed periodontal disease and none of my teeth are any good I go back in a couple of weeks to get the others pulled as I only have 11 left 😭. Chemotherapy treatments cause tooth loss. Medication for seizures. Sickle cell anemia causes tooth loss. Car Accidents can cause tooth loss. That's how my dad lost his. All the toothpaste and floss won't help you then.

Some patients insist on having teeth at all times. In these cases, we make them an "immediate denture" which is designed to be worn for the first 2 months or so after surgery. After the healing is nearly complete in about 2 months, we make them another denture.

Pls explain why he was given dentures immediately after pulling all teeth? Any dentist ive ever seen said the gums need at the very, VERY least 6-8 weeks to heal.

You are correct that the gum tissue needs over 8 weeks to heal before a final denture can begin to be fabricated. You are incorrect in your implication that it was somehow wrong to have a denture ready to be inserted day of surgery. This is, in fact, the standard of care. Most patients want some type of denture while they are healing - which is what this was. Are you going to force someone to walk around without teeth for 8 weeks? Of course not. Regardless, a more definitive denture was fabricated approximately 12 weeks after surgery.

He wanted what is called an "interim denture." This is given to him day of surgery. With time, it will stop fitting, because the gums will change shape significantly after surgery. He needed a brand new denture that we did not start until about 2 months after surgery. In many cases, we don't even propose an interim denture for patients, as they are not overly concerned about being without teeth. Interim dentures never fit perfectly and also add to the over out-of-pocket costs.

I never knew it was possible to place a denture right away. I thought the gums needed to heal first. I'm getting the same procedure next month, but need to wait for my gums to heal before being fitted for dentures. Getting all teeth taken out, top and bottom.

A denture placed day of surgery is often referred to as an "immediate" or "interim" denture. We do this when the patient absolutely needs teeth immediately. You are correct that the gums do need to heal. In cases like this, we tell the patient that they will need another denture - one that we will start approximately 8 weeks after surgery - after the gums are healed. Some patients elect to skip the immediate denture and just wait for the gums to heal. It's completely up to the patient (at least in our office).
