The problem I'm having on mine is one gpu isn't posting card runs fine on one gpu but because the other is having some sort of issue the card will not recognize the second gpu die in windows.

This is something I've always wondered about. It's hard to say what the problem is without actually troubleshooting it, but if you've got one GPU that works properly, then you know that the problem is not in the power rails for the first GPU or the PLX bridge. It's possible, but unlikely, that the problem is in the power rails for the secondary GPU, as they usually have to all be running before either GPU starts running. I would guess that your issue is actually a failure of the second GPU's BGA connection, or one its memory chips, but it might be worthing at least checking for proper resistance and voltage on each of its power rails. You may get lucky and find that it's just a damaged MLC cap or something that's easy to repair. Those are super cool cards, even if they're not the fastest thing, these days.

@@AaronAverett Yeah I'm at a loss, must be software related maybe failing GPU bios from age. Ive been running this card since it came out and this problem started around the end of 2018. I took board apart and checked voltages, at my job and put it under a microscope. I have not been able to see any defects to traces or parts. I want not able to get board into the Xray machine to inspect BGA connections but normally from my experience being in military manufacturing of CCA's that only happens from a mishandling of the card,or if there was a solder ball under the BGA that eventually gave way and shifted enough to cause a short. I'm not entirely sure how the board bios is stored and if one gpu's bios is independent from the other. I was hoping my work horse would be good until big navi drops, but now im stuck with it recognizing my card as a single 290 card which i guess is better than it not using both and being entirely bricked. Not a lot of info around on this card!

Does ATIFlash detect the second card?
@CaptainOverLoad4 жыл бұрын
Aaron Averett im not quite sure yet, i have not been doing anything software side yet, aside from drivers because ive been doing a lot of drafting from home with solid works do to the virus, and don’t want to brick it any further. Later this week i do plan on looking into seeing if a bios flash program detects both cards. My assumption is that it will show both GPU’s in the bios flashing tool no mater if my mobo bios recognize both gpu’s or not?

can you help me get my R9 295 x2 card back to life.

Maybe. Can you describe what’s wrong with it and what you’ve tried to get it working?

No problem. Before you go buying a bunch of equipment or dedicating a space in your house to this, maybe just tear the card down and take some measurements first. It would suck to go to all that trouble, and then find you have a hole burned in the board or something.
