Nice video! I have one question: is it really a 32mm nut that holds the front sprocket? I think it's s 34mm one on my 2002..
@AaronAverett2 күн бұрын
34mm would be an oddball size; I don't think I even have a socket that size. I don't have access to the bike anymore to check, but if I said it's a 32mm in the video, then it was, at least in my case. That out of the way, it's totally possible that the nut on your bike has been replaced with one from some other bike that happens to fit, or an aftermarket one or something.
@mattiasgodeseth36452 күн бұрын
@@AaronAverett Thanks! I don't have that size in my set either. Yeah, seems like I have a nut from another bike. It has come loose too - I was saved by the bent washer on my 200 mile trip home.. I’ll be replacing the nut and washer asap!

what about fuel filter? i have problem with acceleration from start and start uphill, it loses all power. i thought i need to replace fuel filter
@AaronAverett28 күн бұрын
As far as I can tell, the only fuel filter the iQ has is a strainer inside the fuel tank, which doesn't usually get clogged unless the tank is full of rust or dirt. More likely is some other fuel delivery problem, such as a failing fuel pump, or possibly something like a restricted exhaust due to a failed catalytic converter. My advice for your specific problem would be to do some diagnostics first, such as scanning for OBD2 codes, logging fuel trim data, and then start thinking about corrective action once you have a better idea of what's actually wrong.

I wonder if that is where my Model S rattle is coming from. Hard part is finding the origin.
@AaronAverettАй бұрын
My understanding is that the Model S doesn't share much with the 3 and Y, so while it's possible it's rattling in the same place, it's not necessarily the case. Does the rattling stop if you press on the leading edge of the dash right there?

For what it's worth, I have a 2022 and I was absolutely unable to remove my A pillar, it's so tight it barely moves and even with panel removal tools I could not get my finger under it, all I could manage was cutting myself and putting blood on the panel so that didn't work, I ended up just squeezing felt tape on the side of the grille between the pillar and the grille where the tab goes, as well as some foam + felt tap around the vin from the top and that did the trick

I believe in that case, the problem was that the card had a couple of spots that ran super hot, and would sometimes crash. Your problem sounds like a BGA (or BGA-connected component) failure.

Nice. Best video on the subject. Same on my 2018 M3. I was wondering if it would be easier to shoot some silicon or window sealer into that gap. Thanks again!!!
@AaronAverett3 ай бұрын
I don't think silicone is the answer - too easy to get it where you don't want it, and then it's on there permanently. With the foam, you can reach in there with foreceps or pliers and pull it out if you don't get it in right the first time.
@LordOfTheThreeWorlds3 ай бұрын
@@AaronAverett Absolutely agreed - thanks. Once I pulled the pillars and grill out on mine I found there was some factory foam in the spot already. Miffed I took a drive with the parts out and no noise. Put everything back then took a strip of black silicone-rubber which is used on oven doors and stuffed it across the front between the grill and glass which finally fixed it. I used high temperature silicone rubber instead of foam because it will be stable in sun-baked windshield. Anyway it goes to show the assembly line is always being tweaked. Enjoy the ride man!
@AaronAverett3 ай бұрын
@@LordOfTheThreeWorlds Oh, you mean the solid type that they use for oven mitts and stuff. I thought you meant silicone caulk, or RTV sealant. Yeah, that type of silicone would probably work great. You should make your own video about how you did that, especially if your problem was different from mine.
@j_mase3 ай бұрын
Worked like a charm. I did not have to pull the passenger side as there was enough room to pull the speaker grille up to insert the foam, but mine is a late 2020 and had a lot of factory foam strips. It just needed 2 more. Thank you for the very complete instructions!

I have a 2021MY with the dash rattle. I shoved a bunch of foam between the A pillar and the black speaker grill/cover and also shoved a bunch down near the VIN plate. Shoved it as far as I could - you can't even see it. But it did not solve the problem. I'm not 100% convinced my rattle - which is like a speaker vibration/rattle, is actually coming from that area. It may be, but it's possible it is coming from somewhere in the steering column. I have not isolated it yet. It is very hard to tell exactly where it is coming from. It's for sure the driver side dash/left side area. I may have to resort to pulling off the A pillar trim as you have done in this video, but I worry that will not solve my issue. Even if I press down on the speaker grill while driving the rattle is still there.

Thanks for the video. I scheduled a Tesla service but decided to give this a try without removing any parts. After a short drive, the sounds seems to be gone! I just stuck a piece of foam between the 2 parts next to the VIN plate.

Hi there. Conincedentally I am have this same issue. I noticed there's only 4 bolts holding the clutch plates in, where there should be 6, according to the manual. Did you remove two? Or what's the story ?
@AaronAverett6 ай бұрын
I never did figure out an actual reason, but I assume it's either a common modification to make the clutch lever effort less, or a model year change that happened, but everyone has a service manual from a different year. It worked fine as it was for me, so I just left it with the four springs, as I recall.

My Toyota iQ (1.0L 1KR-FE) didn't have an airbleed screw. but it still worked fine. I only got 3.6L from the coolant out (of the total 4.3L). I don’t have an alignment tool, is it super necessary or can you eyeball it? That’s the first time I’ve heard one mentioned on chain sprocket changing videos.
@AaronAverett7 ай бұрын
You can totally do it without one, but it’s easier if you use something to align all the various parts first. I think the tool I used was a large drift pin punch, but you could use almost anything that fits in there for this purpose.

I have an annoying harmonic vibration while listening to podcasts coming from the same speaker area. I’m going to disassemble and trying to play different tones from a tone generator app this weekend. Wish me luck.
@AaronAverett8 ай бұрын
Before you do that, you might want to try playing the different tones with the grille in place, and see if you can get the undesirable vibration to stop by pressing with your hands. I can imagine the problem being the grille itself, and not just the underlying plastic dash, so if you remove the grille first, you may not be able to reproduce it.

After watching your video I was able to fix the rattle by pushing two 5 inch sections of 3/8 inch backing rod into the space without removing anything. If you look from outside the car near the vin you’ll see the white metal you refer to. Because the grill is so flexible I was able to push the backing rod into the exact space you were speaking of. Voilà. Rattle gone. It’s been bugging me for years. Thank you very much!

Do you have a video on the sound of the rattle so we can identify if it’s a similar sound in our vehicles?
@AaronAverett9 ай бұрын
Short answer is no; I couldn't get a recording of it that stood out from the road noise with the car in motion, but I demonstrated it about halfway through the video, once I got the speaker grille off. The sound you hear in the video is pretty faithful to what it sounded like in my car. Yours may obviously be a bit different, since this is a defect related to Tesla shabby quality control, and every car is thus unique.

IMPORTANT! Hit the pan bolts with PB blaster the night before! And use anti seize when replacing the pan bolts! I had three that got super tight once I started loosening them. They were seized and one sheared completely off and turned this into an all day project. I thought the other two would do the same but hit them with an impact wrench, thinking the hammer action might help break them loose and that seemed to do the trick.

Hey Aaron: I do think any blower card needs the copper mod to keep temps down. I don't believe in liquid metal for graphics cards but water cooling might be ok. A copper mod on a blower card lowers the temps 30 degrees.
