More great stuff! It's important to realise that the mats are effectively personal protective equipment that reduces potential injuries to participants and isn't to be unconsciously relied on for the basis of effective self-defence techniques. I ask students to voluntarily roll and/or breakfall on the unmatted floor every so often to remind themselves of this.

This is an innovation. We need to come out of sport la la land more often than the current never. I like the jiu jitsu slap fighting that some people do too to raise their awareness of how much strikes diminish your game or not.

Two quick questions for Coach Brian, I've been caught in the position that the guy in the maroon shirt was in a few times, is there a way to counter it? Secondly, while i like JJ some of the guys i train with are simultaneously too skittish and too aggressive at the same time on their feet and i dont know what to do? It sounds strange but for example. Lots of non commital hand fighting Going for a collar tie and then not knowing what to so with it Going for throws like osoto gari way too far out

Could you film a video about street specific takedowns that work on concrete?🙏🏻

Just drop the Jiu Jitsu name all together and just use Submission Wrestling. America's Folkstyle Wrestling with Submissions reintroduced and an emphasis on riding, breaking your man down and control.

For the street? I feel like no-gi judo is the way to go for self-defense. Imagine getting hip-tossed onto the hard concrete! But just to push back a bit, many people train BJJ/wrestling as a sport, as a means to fitness and health -- which is actual, real-life self-defense. After all, we're far more likely to be killed by obesity and heart disease than by a pack of ninjas. Put it that way, I'd say yoga is a better self-defense than BJJ.

This is combatatives pretty much. Put in boxing and you have most of actually appliable technique curriculum.

Judo. Do Judo. Guard pulling was fixed before it was a problem.
