Hi! I missed your comment the first time around. No. Very few of Chicago's inner suburbs have anything like that. The open areas are pretty much gone and almost everything can be reached from the surface streets. There are Forest Preserves, but they don't burn all that often. Thank-You very much for viewing and commenting!!!

Thank-You. It was lucky as to the timing. However, following that particular section of tracks is coincidentally one of my favorite shortcuts. I was coming back from Broadview, where I had recorded a rail video, when I saw the emergency responders...........

If I remember correctly, the railroad was cutting and welding down this entire stretch of railway. They had been putting out fires through the entire stretch of rails through the town. They called in the second engine to chase the other fire along the tracks. This was the final fire.

On this particular day there was no MOW along the line. I think the traction motor from the Local shot out a spark that caused the fire. You have good eyes.... Not too many people have noticed that the rails are now welded!

Talk about over kill...two pumps three ambulances and a chief car...and for what?

When the trains ignite the weeds, it is usually in multiple locations. This has happened enough times that the FD has a protocol on the response. The last time this happened, there were flames at Wolf Road on both sides of the crossing, then a few hundred feet west another pair of fires. Thank-you for viewing and commenting!

Laying low It can't be seen from my camera angle but there is a huge expressway ramp under those viaducts. If the fire got down along the highway it would have been a major back up or shut down. Also, the trains through there do have a lot of flammables. I guess they are operating under the newer emergency protocols which mandate a heavy turn out on the front end which saves time if it does turn out to be a big deal.
