I love harvest time. I really love the three combines running and keeping the grain cart guy hopping like crazy. It is one big-time dance for sure. "No Farmers, No Food."

Done this many times with 8120's weak unload system. I removed the chain and a cross auger gear. Removed the key for the gear. Greased the shaft and gear up good and reinstalled. It then would unload with 1 cross auger running. Or maybe none if I do both gears. Really wished I had that cross auger shut off button. Chicks just gum stuff up. I wash the sickle daily to prevent it from sticking.

My friend John was combining a field that his dad was familiar with in southern Alberta. He knew there was a huge drop off but he was not really sure. He got off the combine just to check. Well, he was close to going off what he termed "a cliff". It was one of those WOW experiences. 😮

Good to see the best in Red doing some updates and new ideas on the combines. My father John purchased one of 3 new 1680's in early August 1988 pre production model with the first ones to have the bigger engine than the dt466. It was a drought year and at 20 bushel wheat it's full capacity could not be tested properly. Some engineers took it to the Peace River area of Northern Alberta Canada to test it under bumper crops. The next year My father was sent a new 1680 production model. Nice to see things constantly changing for the better!!

Sitting here enjoying the content wondering how wheat was harvested before the development of combines Thank the LORD for the modern farming equipment
@kevinmeyer38842 жыл бұрын
Wheat was cut with a large Cye, think Grimm Reaper style, put into shocks then loaded into a wagon and hauled to a stationary thrasher run by steam engines or some power source. Before that it was thrashed out by people power!

I am amazed you could empty the auger with it unfolded like that! Good thinking on the part of the engineers at Case for allowing machines to do that. What a nasty gummy mess but at least you have crops to harvest!!! So many others are struggling this year! What a blessing! Also I think of you buy a Crary air reel you get one of their fancy hoodies for free and maybe even a hat!🤣🤣🤣

I just was out in Glacier National Park. Came from Wisconsin. It is crazy how many grasshoppers got a free ride with front bumper. Pulled off of the highway in Eastern Montana a few times to relieve ourselves. Walk 10 feet on a gravel road and at least 200 hoppers go flying and jumping. Its nuts!

How many acres is a "typical" operation out there in Big Sky country? So far I've counted 6 small grains you're raising plus hay. WOW!
@MC-re2ry2 жыл бұрын
Always interesting. Hope this is a profitable year for you. And so, let the bragging begin . . . 840 acres in my part of Iowa means 190 to 200 hundred thousand bushels of corn. Maybe. I hope. We'll see. Not in the bin yet. Pretty dry this year. And then there's the price. And so it goes. There's always next year.
@jimholty22742 жыл бұрын
Did the augers clean out very well in the wheat? We can get that in beans from dirt and combing when its damp.

You are dryer, but my Uncle/Cousins, always swathed, then just used a pickup reel. Peas/lentils are so hard on equipment you have to be almost sticking the header in the ground, but up there they have to desiccate them too. They just straight cut the Barley and Wheat though. It’s sad when People around you get Jealous… Somebody stuck a big Toe Rope with big metal shackles in the swath. Caused a lot of damage. Almost caught it before it went in, but it was well hidden.

Last year I had a fire extinguisher stuck under the auger in my straight cut head. Had to tow it out with the truck. Fortunately no damage.
