The best thing about this video is that you spend real good quality time with your kid. As a beginner skater myself, I would NEVER try all the stuff you are doing. Brute force is never a way I would want to learn anything. However, it's your body, so you get to smash it up all you like. ;-)

Funny enough I also found myself starting very recently with inline skating, and only have a few months on you regrading my blading career. 1. I'd look at channels like "Flow skate." I have learnt a lot of important knowledge about things from his channel that go beyond just learning slides like T slides and parallel slides. 2. When learning I seriously suggest at times you learn backwards, understanding your inside and outside edges and how you can better use them are going to bring your skating to a whole different level (by which i mean sometimes just start with a beginner tutorial and work your way up). 3. Last I seriously suggest you look into different skating arts like slalom and aggressive. There are so many skills you can use from both areas that will overall make your skills as a power skater much more effective. 4. Find people with more experience, a general tip but a very important one. I have a hockey friend who makes me look like a new born baby learning to walk, but he still teaches me and gives me goals to reach. So if you can find some people in your area who would like to skate with you or have skated previously. and don't give up especially during these next couple cold months, you have activities to practice like one foot front, backwards, slalom techniques. The whole shabang you'll love it.

Also there is a lack of fear, or maybe a lack of experience as far as consequence goes. I have been skating since I was five and am now fourty eight. Skating has brought me so much joy over the years and has helped me form some of my best friendships. I hope you have continued your skate journey and that your family join you. Hopefully you have by now discovered your local skate community and have maybe joined in with the town tours that are organised by such groups. These are great fun and are a great way to find new spots and make new skate friends and connections. I wish you many happy years of skating!

Man you are progressing so fast. I'm really experienced at least in terms of time (20years) and I still don't manage to do a powerstop and have to say I also have a heel break. Heal break mostly in terms of wheel drain especially because I'm living on a hill. I can plow break, t-break well and make a powerslide or fake one and spin break. But the wheel drain coming from t-stops made me use the heel break again. (im using 110mm wheels)
@erichopham3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I definitely didn’t realise how much the wheels cost before I ever got into rollerblading! But I have no choice because I only got in to it for the slides I saw on KZbin! Maybe you should set some time aside to drill some slides ;)
@BlackyRay_Patrick3 жыл бұрын
@@erichopham I always do, but there are so many different things to learn and to improve and only limited time to practise 😅 I also want to learn to drive down some stairs. Preferred backwards because in driving forwards my heel break would be in my way. And to do so I need to improve my backwards driving. I can easily swap inbetween driving backwards and forwards driving can also drive fast and long backwards but still lack of the agility and flawless balance like driving forwards .... So there is more homework to do before moving to the next stop and so on and on.... Few days ago I had finally a breakthrough in learning how to move your body to form a powerstops. Now I only need to learn how to control it. And I would say at least having one of these stops and slides is already a good basis

I started off skating in Twister Edge Pro. After some time I realized they weren't as small as they could have been, because of the shared shell sizes. I learned that skates are supposed to be super super tight when you buy them, almost uncomfortably tight. That will lead to a more responsive skate, once you break them in and they will fit like a glove. Keep that in mind if you ever upgrade. A nice Intuition liner even allows you to downsize, so you can squeeze into a smaller boot, for an even better fit, though it's important to pre-plan if you want to get an Intuition liner, because if you get the liner and just put it in your regular boot, the boot will feel too big and loose.

Hey man, Pretty motivating video you've made! I'm 33 and bought my first pair of skates. Never used it before but played ice hockey for 10+ years. My issue is when I lace my skates as much as possible I feel pain outside of my feet and when I have them laced more loosely, they are comfortable but the wheels go right and left and it's hard to maneuver and do basic stuff because of the lack of balance. I guess I will have to use thicker sock and lace not too hard.

I got my first Rollerblade in Munich back in 1998 and skated along the streets of Munich right away, with zero hours on, which in hindsight was a really bad idea. My Rollerblades are now 24 years old, and it's my birthday today, and I was thinking of getting a new pair as a gift for myself this weekend. I don't skate well, but hope to bump (not literally!) into you somewhere in Melbourne (which is where I am based at now) someday, if you're still skating these days. What helps with commitment is wearing proper gear. I found the lower profile rate sensitive pads to still be quite painful compared to the huge skateboard style knee pad sliders. Besides, no one else really cares if you're armored up and, even if they did, it's not like they're going to pay for your medical bills anyway. Peace of mind that things won't hurt (as much) allows you to push yourself more and learn faster. That said, I'm sure I didn't use pads when I taught myself as a kid. Getting back into it as a rickety old man (or at least I feel like it), my body now feels like it's made of glass, taking forever to heal, so I usually try to wear at minimum some butt padding, knee pads, and a helmet whenever I skate. Keep it up and enjoy! 🙂 If you get a chance, try ice as well. Significantly harder and requires more balance but I'm liking it more than inline.

Thanks for sharing this. I’ll be honest and say that it is definitely a lot faster and safer to learn rollerblading with at least a lesson or two in-person with a certified inline skating instructor. On Rollerblade’s website you’ll see links to the Instructor Certification Program (ICP) which has been running since the 1990s. Regarding braking - I’m curious why you decided that the heel brake had no utility for you as a beginner skater on the streets. When used correctly a heel brake can save excessive wheel wear, allow a skater to stop effectively on hills and give you a more accessible option as opposed to trying magic slides or Tstops. Learning when you’re not wearing helmet, wrist guards and other protective gear is definitely more risky than necessary (although good work wearing the knee gaskets and hip protection). Bayside Blades has ICP instructors too although noted that this video is shot in lockdown. There are instructors all over the world. And before the backlash comes about promoting skating instructors -- snow skiing and snowboarding have certified instructors and they keep the ski areas safer than if there was no instruction. I hope you’ll consider the helmet advice - especially for your backwards skating and jumps. It only takes one hard knock from rough concrete …

still a great video, I love how aggressive you were in teaching yourself. Sadly I still am afraid to fall

You got this! Learning how to fall is definitely a main part of skating

I would highly recommend elbow pads and knee pads and arm things and maybe shin guards and a helmet for sure. That is what I will be doing when I get skates.

one of the main things to work on is building ankle strength and keeping them straight skates do a big part in that already but having that extra support makes a big diffrence

also I've been playing hockey for 11 years and roller skating for 5

I spent 2 months skating, trying to get the hang of the different stopping techniques, my wheels are now worn out and they're still wobbly.

you did so good when you first put them on, I coudn't even stand when I did XD getting a little bit better everyday, I also fall a lot everyday, but it's part of the process, I use protection, so I'm not afraid at all

Hei, great progress. Small tip from Somebody that ice skates and inline skates for over 22 years: get your feet more tight together. You have your legs a bit too seperated in my opinion. Get them more together and you will be able to get sharper corners and reduces the risk of pulling your legs apart and spinning in a circle like you did a few times.🙈👍

cuttest thing the little man saying "siiick" to the skates 😂 gotta give him one, bro!
