I'm 24 and just got my first pair of inline skates and I'm surprised at how easy they are to balance compares to quad skates! Only thing is, I've been sticking to my apartment's basement this whole time and I'm kind of socially awkward even still at this age haha...I really want to meet new people this way, but most of the skate parks near me are mostly skateboarders and kids with blades on weekends. Any advice you might have would be helpful!

This is great fella.. I'm 37 and just bought a pair of aggressive skates.. I used to blade all the time and was really good as a nipper.. But now at 37 I'm bambie on ice haha

Yeah you should be happy with that level of progression mate, good job. I actually used to skate aggressive inline for like a decade throughout the 90s and it’s good to see it coming back, there’s a joy you get whilst skating that’s hard to convey until you try it yourself. Nice to see others experience it. Quick question, do you mind if I ask where that skate park was, looks dope.

This helps. I can do crossovers but only to the left. I wipe out everytime I try to the right. Same as parallel turning or carving. How can I become more ambidextrous? Any drills or practices to help with that?
@whittyskater2 жыл бұрын
Nothing specific. Just make yourself practice both sides. Figure of 8s around two cones is a giod way to keep alternating and practice both sides equally.
@twistfire742 жыл бұрын
@@whittyskater thanks I'll stay at it and it will come. I actually see improvements every day I skate. Which is everyday. Iys my thought the more I skate the faster I'll improve. I also feel more confident trying things now that I'm wearing pads. The first 2 sessions I busted both elbows. One on the first day and then the other on the 2nd day for a matching set.

I started skating aging after 10 years but there’s hills and such what do you recommend for starters and do you have any videos on how to stop
@whittyskater5 жыл бұрын
If you can try and find a tennis court or basketball court to practice in. They are flat so should make it easier and safer to learn. As for a stopping video, well if you can wait a few more weeks my new video might just help you out. In the meantime I would recommend the KZbin channel 'Skate fresh asha' for some great videos on how to stop.

Everyone is way more ambitious than I am lol I am hoping by around 7-8 months being able to just skate backwards maybe if I can make it seamless looking I would be positively glowing! I'm not big on jumps or anything else just want to be able to look like I'm gliding lol I just got my skates and did day one and I'm starting at ground zero, I'm working on balancing on one skate with one shoe right now and switching legs after I get the hang of it, I plan to do left leg, then right leg and keep switching till I'm confident on the carpet enough where I can then transition outside but it will be awhile! Your progress is amazing! It was cool to see the stops! I have no idea how to even change direction I tried it and well it wasn't good my foot just went every direction despite my foot fitting pretty well and I do need insoles but it will get there :D

Congrats on the amazing progress. Coincidentally I'm also 40 and just beginning to learn. How do you manage to skate over the broken/uneven tiles at the end of the video (like at 5:00) ? I've gotten my front wheel even against a small pebble causing me to trip and fall forwards. When you skate like that, is the pressure of your foot in the boots more towards the heel, toes or somewhere in the middle?
@whittyskater5 жыл бұрын
That's great you have started to skate. When skating over rough ground, scissor your feet slightly so one foot is just in front of the other. Keep a little more weight on your back foot. If you scissor your feet, if your front foot trips your back foot will catch you so you shouldn't fall.

Hi, you mentioned somewhere in the comments that you practice like 3 times a week. I am curios is this during winter time too? I know winter in UK in the not greatest for inline because of the rain....same here in Vancouver :)
@whittyskater5 жыл бұрын
Hey there buddy. I still skate 3 to 4 times a week even in winter. I use an indoor carpark alot in the winter. It's not ideal but does mean I can skate in the dry and it has lighting.
@ingenious4t4 жыл бұрын
There’s some pretty cool ‘rain wheels’ called Torrents, there’s a small tread on them which allegedly helps with traction when it’s wet, I haven’t tried them yet but I’m going to despite the 50/50 neg pos reviews. Good luck 😉

I DID SKATE FOR A MONTHS WHEN I WAS 7YRS OLD. AND THEN I STOPPED IT BCAUSE I GOT BORED. AND THEN I AM NOW 17, MY COUSIN BOUGHT ME A ROLLER SKATE. I THOUGHT I DON'T KNOW HOW TO USE IT ANYMORE. BUT THE MOMENT I STAND UP WHILE WEARING IT, I CAN STILL SKATE😂I DON'T KNOW HOW. WE ALL KNOW THAT ROLLER SKATE IS VERY HARD SO I AM REALLY SURPRISED😆. AND NOW I AM WATCHING SOME AMATUERS IN THE WORLD OF ROLLER SKATING TO LEARN SOME TRICKS AND TO KNOW HOW TO USE IT THE RIGHT WAY. ❤️🙏

Well i want to continue to iron out my technique. I want to become smoother. In terms of specific skills for 2018 i want to land a 540, and execute a magic slide. I'm also trying to learn some aggressive stuff to mix things up.

I've been watching your videos for inspiration, watching the skaters that have been skating since they were 10 years old is one thing, but it's interesting to see the progression of someone who started later in life ... I bought my skates a year ago, but after months of just being frozen on the carpet in fear I hired a pro skater to help me get going- I'm now a month into lessons and I've just ventured off the high friction surface and practice every night after the kiddos bedtime on the hardwood, going back and forth... did you take lessons, or have someone assist you with the techniques or did you just pick them up yourself... ? Nice skating, looking forward to seeing more.

Hey there. I'm really happy you have found someone to give you lessons and you are now starting to skate and get some confidence. Keep it up! I just taught myself. I watched lots of YT videos and tried to learn from there. I would love to have some proper lessons though. Thanks for watching, more videos on the way.

So I decided to challenge myself and (re)learn skating before the spring of 2020. I bought my new rollerblades last night and I'm really shaky even when it comes to standing up. I used to skate a lot, but it was around 10 years ago, so I'm quite literally starting from zero. Were you practicing daily to reach your 2 months level?
@whittyskater5 жыл бұрын
Hey there. Welcome back to skating! You'll soon be ok. Muscle memory will still be there even after 10 years. So when I started I was skating about 3 times a week on average.
