Brent plays some of the trippiest, coolest keyboard parts in the middle of Row Jimmy- he was always coming out with some sounds from the Carnival of the Cosmos when you least expected it. The man was SO into the music, Even his bad nights were astounding- he let you know he was having a bad night. He showed up to exorcise his demons in a way i’ve hardly ever seen another musician “ play.” Brent was the Grateful Dead as much as any other member, maybe moreso at times… he wasn’t fucking around. He was Dead serious about the fun he was having- we all ought be…

This recording is heavy on the vocals. It works, it really does. Awesome show. The boys knew we were having a hard time outside, they did the best they could for us inside. Bobby's b-day the following night is considered by many to be the show of shows. This is in the same vein, just beautiful. Brent's Keys during Row Jimi and his performance this night was incredible. Never saw this one before today. I love being a Deadhead. Finding new nuggets is the best part of it for me.

I wanna take a step back and thank this guy Voodoonola...i've quite recently matured into loving this music. Growing up with dmb, dispatch, john butler trio (im 28), i knew songs off of american beauty growing up but never really investigated the music much. A few years ago i bought the '89 4th of july philly show that was in stores and that really introduced me to this sound...suddenly it just clicked. Sure y'all know the feeling. Wanna say thank you to voodoo b/c now i can live for myself what i wasn't old enough to experience while it was happening. About a month away from seeing bobby mickey and bill for the first time at, none other than, alpine valley. Growing up with dmb ive had too many great shows at that place, i cant wait to hear what these guys bring. Thanks voodoo for letting my generation try to catch up...its great living these shows thru your videos

The first time I heard Box of Rain live was the encore of this show. I remember sitting in the bleachers across from Phil, which means this was before I even started sitting in the Phil Zone at every show. This song, which was the song that motivated me to learn to play guitar as a teen, was also there for me when I was by the side of my own beloved father in hospice. I understand it on a whole new level after that experience. Oh, Phil. Such a long, long time to be gone and a short time to be there. 💔

Jon W, They let you guy hang out at the service area? Especially in 89. The almost post era of the crash shows. Unless of course you were in like a mobile home and were not hanging out Looking like total hippies. I don't know...A lot of state cops I had to deal with were OK...Especially either 84-85 when there was a huge crash that night and the giants had just played a game before the show. It was a mess. It's a long story but a friend of mine was supposed to be sitting next to me, He went to the football game also. I figured he ran into some people and hung with them, At half show the lights came up and there he was beaten to a pulp bleeding, Two guards were bringing him to his seat. I said didn't you bring him to the hospital, Which they have a huge facility and small units on every floor. I cannot remember if he went or not. I looked at him and he just opened his blooded hand and there was his ticket. I was about 300 mics to the wind and said I need a beer.....I started to walk and as did I saw people throwing those little ticket booths at the doors, People being beaten with clubs....I flipped, I kept walking trying to get the hell out of there. You have to realize there Must have been a few thousand people out there. A bunch of state cops were standing watch at one of the doors, One said what are trying to do? I said "GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE!" He understood, Walked me around to a safe exit and walk me as close to my truck as he could and ran back to his post. I was shaking like a leaf on a dead tree. It didn't occur to me that I had left my friend there until about 100 miles away. He was close to home and made it OK but my God. The Band put out a letter the next day I think stating that if it didn't stop they would no longer come to the east coast AT ALL! It was hand written and put in most local news papers. And people on the mailing list got them also. The whole experience was terrible. To this day my heart bleeds for leaving him like that but my mind was not in control of my body.....

A head mentioned that the cops were assholes to Deadheads at Nassau. Before I went down there I got some good advice from a friend, get there at showtime and go right in. I witnessed the cops sweeping through the parking lot in force, looking at everybody, checking in windows. If you were rolling a joint or had something lit, that's it you're done click click, handcuffed. It was the scariest show of force I have ever witnessed by far. To say it was an excessive use of force would be an understatement. It was downright sinful. Many lives ruined, so many.

He shared most of his short life w us...we got to grow up w him, travel w him...Papa Garcia. Miss and love them both, as much today as ever...so grateful for the time we had them. I have a fairly far out theory about Jerry's playing that wicked solo on Victim or the Crime. Ok... here goes. This particular solo (the big one towards the end) seems to sear in a fierce way that NONE others do. It is almost as if ol Jer is defending his dope use. He blisters in defiance ! * what say you ?
@garyshow20053 жыл бұрын
All I say is that it was a far better Victim than the one I heard at Tinley that summer (the only thing in common was Jerry was playing Wolf that night also).
